Those repairs on the stock near the sight are typical of those ww2 BSA rifles. The small brass screw on the stock near the factory marking is normal. The rifle is a Dispersal Factory rifle made assembled at a Birmingham.
Are you sure you got a C grade? As rough as it looks, it still looks far better than other C grade unboxings I have seen and it looks complete. A few other things that make me think its not a C grade is that C grades do not come with a magazine per rti and the price for a C grade on their website is $199. Even with tax and shipping you would be around $250, far less than the almost $450 stated. I suspect you may have ordered a B grade...but I could be wrong about everything!
The 303 British bullet is larger at .312". All the US 30 calibers, 30-40 Krag - 30-06 - 7.62X51, are all .308". 20 yrs ago, I got an unissued No4 Enfield from RTI for $175. The guns they got out of Ethiopia are pretty much garbage.
ALL Short Magazine Lee Enfields came with Brass Buttplates. Also 30-06 is SMALLER in Diameter than a .303 British Bullet. That Buttstock looks like it was clawed by the Royal Lion of Ethiopia… long before the Royal Tiger got its Claws in it. Kind of pricey. I’d try to buy an Ishapore Drill Purpose ( DP) Rifle to see if I could get a better Stock Set for it. Ishy Rifles have slightly different Forestock Timber and Bands, but will interchangeably fit if you use all Indian Wood and Metal up Front. Buttstock will be the same ( hopefully without Cat Scratches.)😅
Thanks for the info definitely would like to get into these things. My Carcano and Mauser collections are both basically complete so I have to find new things to get into. They definitely seem like neat rifles. I’ve seen the drill purpose rifles before that’s funny you bring it up definitely have my eyes on those, thanks for sharing all the information
You really can't do the bullet test on an Enfield without a military cartridge. Much of the commercial 303 ammo will have smaller .310" projectiles. The rifling in Enfield barrels is very deep, so slightly undersized projectiles will still shoot just fine.
Dispersal rifles aren’t easy to find, still looking for one to add to my collection in Australia. Please don’t pull it down without any knowledge of how to, you can completely destroy the fore stock if you don’t know what you’re doing. Look forward to seeing the old girl cleaned up. I’ll link a good how to video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CjYG7WHaXWk.htmlsi=imRCj_w5IBGQFOgv
