When I saw these go up at Royal Tiger Imports (RTI) I couldn't pass on the chance to finally add a No.4 Mk.1 to my collection. This is one of the C-Grade rifles imported from Ethiopia. They are described as being in overall good condition but missing parts or damaged in some way. I was a little afraid to roll the dice on a rifle that could have problems but I could always use another project so I went for it. The rifle I received is a 1944 BSA Shirley. It was missing the cocking piece on the bolt along with the extractor spring. Both of which are easy to source parts. I was pretty bummed to see that the rear sight was broken in shipping but again that's not a difficult part to replace. The rear hand guard had a pretty serious crack in it that was probably made worse by the damage the rifle suffered during shipping. The blued finish on the metal parts is almost completely gone in places but the wood actually looks pretty dang nice. The bore has good rifling and a light shine but does have some pitting. I think this rifle will make a nice shooter once I get the replacement parts and I expect it to look pretty good after cleaning up. The biggest surprise was finding hundreds of tiny dead bugs inside the rifle. For the money I definitely recommend these C-Grade rifles imported by Inter Ordnance as long as you don't mind putting in some work to get them up and running.
Thanks for Watching!

I'm amazed at your knowledge of military rifles, considering your age, compared to me. I only started collecting these by accident about three years ago. I went to an auction and the internet went down. I ended up with a Garand and a Mark IV. No turning back after that.

Awesome unboxing always love hearing the data on your rifles when you unbox. To bad about the sight breaking in shipping something they need to be made aware of so they can protect it better in the future. Overall very cool gun again nice job!

Awesome rifle there. Nice to hear a bit of history too. I shoot .22 rimfire pneumatic rifles myself. Will be great to see this again when you have restored it.

Cool old rifle. The bug infestation at the end was pretty surprising. Thanks for the video.

Better to just check out your local gun shops from time to time.

That looks like a pretty good find. The note about the trigger could be because there's nothing on the bolt for the sear to catch on. I doubt a gunsmith wrote that. Get a cocking piece and retainer screw and go from there. You will need to get (or make) the tool to screw the firing pin into the new cocking piece.

At the risk of getting overly technical, that rifle is absolutely rooted.

Pretty standard shipping policy for RTI (IKA I.O.)

First thing I noticed was that big ol' "3" stamped on the bolt head thingy (part with extractor). I don't quite get why, but Gun Jesus Ian tells me this is a bad thing, and you want "1," and even "2" is okay, but "3" is gonna become an issue.

I’m converting one No4 MK1/2 FTR 55) to a T sniper model I got it at a Big 5 in 96’ after I got back from the army. I didn’t jack about it when I got it except that and one other (an earlier SMLE that I wished I grabbed too) that had a detachable magazine. It has the milled sight and I have all the parts it’s going to the gunsmith Thursday.

It was all going good, till the insects. Can't say I've seen anything like that before. Should be an easy fix to make it operational. Stay safe buddy 🤝.
