The true Shadows of Aetheria were the gimmick map designs all along

Hey Mangs, how about asking the AI to design an *alternate path* here at the end where you can join Eldric. You could then have to fight your own army with the eclipse troops or maybe have that legendary weapon Sage bring in his own forces or whatever the AI comes up with. Somebody also suggested an *alternate ending* if you use Mercy on your dad twice. Could ask the AI to write that too. As for a *final version,* I think it's entirely legitimate to ask the AI to rebalance the seriously weak units (as long as you don't tell it how). Flesh designers also don't just go with the first alpha version without any feedback.

I mean he wanted to create harmony in the land or whatever, but he also wanted Lioran to join him, so we can add that to "make him stronger so they can work together at the end" and it kinda works.

Honestly this AI generated Fire Emblem game was fun to both play any watch: I can’t wait to see more ChatGPT Fire Emblem games this year and next upcoming years beyond. (It would be cool if ChatGPT can do a sequel on a mainline game like Binding Blade or Awakening though)

SPOILERS BELOW: Villains who are never fought can be a mixed bag, but I think ChatGPT did a really good job with it execution-wise. They foreshadow the fact that King Eldric is the real bad guy as we gather MacGuffins to defeat who we THINK is the villain only for said true villain finally make a move and betray the other guy. And wow, I love the gimmick that the guy you've been using to carry you throughout several parts of the game becomes the final boss. Eldric is perhaps the most awesome Jagen archetype yet, and he's the VILLAIN! Story-wise, it's very rough around the edges, and certainly a story that needed some more time to develop its story and lore, as the plot feels pretty rushed. ChatGPT was being merciful with only 12 chapters, but even still, it's still a little too short. I think a Fire Emblem game like this has a lot of potential, it just needs to be longer, more balanced, and to clean up the rougher part of the edges. But as it is, I'd say ChatGPT did a pretty good job making a Fire Emblem game, quirks or not. It just goes to show that ChatGPT can make a pretty decent Fire Emblem game. And it was a lot of fun seeing how it all ends.

Here we are, the final chapter! I didn't think writing something for this chapter would be so hard. Narrative: -I believe that ChatGPT decided that this story needed a plot twist as big as possible. Making the main character's father the final enemy is not something very common in Fire Emblem, and I would say that the thing I like the least about this occurrence is the fact that said character is playable, and losing it may not be funny even if just for one chapter. It somewhat ties into the concept of the hero's journey though. -The apparition of the Twilight Portal is out of nowhere but, while a little foreshadowing could have been better, this isn't a rare occurence in many Fire Emblem games. -I don't like the way the legendary weapons are introduced. It seems that they were just there and Emeric collected them and gave them to Lioran. They have no plot relevance. -Varian always felt like a very blank character. I don't mind his death. Gameplay: -The legendary weapons are overpowered, but I don't mind, they're legendary and this is the final chapter. If only they weren't so easy to acquire. -The gimmick of this chapter is good. It's hard and prevents a Lioran solo, exactly how a final chapter should be. -Now on what is in my opinion the biggest problem of this chapter, which has become a trend: everything is so extremely overtuned. The fact that you had to go back and grind every unit to maximum level and still had to rely on rng to not lose shows how problematic this can be. Such a level of grind should never be required. I wouldn't be surprised if between the last two chapters was easier to get soft-locked than not. Emeric: you finally get to use him and he isn't bad. His personal skill is useful, and being able to use two of the legendary weapons makes him even more serviceable. He's a character relevant to the plot and one of the more interesting, I like him. It has been amazing watching you creating a ROMhack with the AI. I wonder what could this mean for the future of the ROMhacking community. Will you make a sum up video with what you've learnt or to share your impressions? See you everybody!

Sometime down the line I'd like to see a Shadows of Aetheria unit tierlist. And honestly this whole journey was a lot of fun, so seeing more SoA/AI Emblem content in the future would be fun. For one thing, I'm curious what sort of support conversations the AI would make. That all can wait a while though.

"This map's not overly hard" If you have to grind several units to make the difficulty fair, then yes, the map is definitely too hard. And lets not forget how one of the bosses can get a crit rate over 80

These twist betrayals always beg the question: why is it game over if the traitor-to-be dies? Presumably, Eclipse would be thrown into disarray if the secret leader was killed. The same applies to the twist villain of the fell xenologue.

Personally I love the idea of having a Jagen you have a personal conexion to that you HAVE to use due to difficulty but that the stronger you make him the harder the final fight will be. That + encountering the 4 generals before hand and having a chance to beat them at full power is something I would love to see in a more polish hack.

I have really loved this series. Part of the joy has been being able to in a way experience a FE game completely blind without any expectations and without ever truly knowing what was going to happen next. As others have said would love to see more of this or something adjacent like trying to make the AI make an Advance Wars game although that might be a nightmare.

Actually impressed with how the AI did. Ngl I wish this had a few more chapters to really let us sit with Eldric betraying us. I imagine him leaving Varian to handle our army while him and his 4 generals go to the twilight realm to acquire that power. And it’s a few more chapters of Loriann actually dealing with the betrayal and we can get some proper rout chapters in the Twilight Realm with the 4 Eclipses (maybe with alternate art after they acquire the power)!

My final chapter doesn't have Selene in the upper left. I did kill her in chapter 4 though, does that mean she just doesn't appear in this chapter even though the story said that she warped away? I killed Orion and took his Dragonshield in chapter 6 but he's still there in the lower left. Awesome game, by the way! Really had a blast playing it. Thanks for putting this together! Couple of other things: If you skip the opening sequence, the game bugs and Varian will appear with 0 HP in one of the deployment squares. That will cause that unit to not be playable (rescue doesn't work either as the game thinks it's Varian and not your unit). To resolve this, the opening video has to be viewed so that it shows Eldric kill him. Garrick and Velina's A support has mysteriously vanished.

Yet again excellent gimmick ideas by the AI. I know I've already said this several times, but I'll do it again: If you do a romhack, do yourself a favor and add the AI to at least the map design team. Adding it to unit design and a few side npc filler conversations like villages and shops might be a good idea aswell.

Would love to see more of AI Emblem, this has been a blast to watch. Also, I'm definitely going to look up those patches you used for QOL improvements to FE8, I'm really missing things like health bars etc. in my game!

This was a fun experiment! Mangs: I need all of my units. Also Mangs: lets Torin die. Inb4 gives Callista Voidshroud and all four sigils. You reminded me that I need to finish The Last Promise. The farthest I got was that tower chapter with all the assassins.

The fact that the dad has made it clear he hated the eclipse from the beginning and had some unspoken past with the berserker made the plot twist pretty poorly done. I kinda hope the story and character balance gets reworked

Honestly really impressed with CGPT following through on the Unity/Teamwork themes, I was worried when the FE chapter was a Lioren Solo map but it makes even more sense when it’s Eldric that pushes him to do it on his own - following it up with a team kill mechanic for the true final chapter is pretty solid. Having Eldric retain his stats is also a really fun way to lean into his role as the Early Pre-Promote because OFC people would want to use him throughout, especially in a short game (12 Ch), while also creating challenge mode replays because the game incentivizes killing the Eclipse Generals and ignoring Eldric on a rerun for a smooth Ch 12. It’s kinda like a pseudo hard mode. Overall surprisingly impressed, I was a little sceptical that the theming wouldn’t carry through, and while I think the writing as is isn’t the most polished, it’s a decent foundation

This is a 100% fail rate "try not to laugh" challenge, that being said, still better story than Engage.

Hey Mangs, just a quick note from trying the map. It seems in my version, Eldric comes after you from the start (he'll still say his line a few turns in, which because he's already in the thick of fighting, was a bit weird). Also, as I killed Selene the first time I saw her, does that mean I'm effectively punished by not being able to recover my Ocean Seal? I think it's fair for Eldric to be stronger if the general is dead but as a bonus, perhaps the player should start with a seal for each dead general (as your reward for killing that general before).

At least the dead dad fire emblem tradition stays strong. Our dad was the evilness all along. it's cheesy and you could see it coming but honestly. i can see an FE game try to pull this too. Interesting final map. forcing you to use all your characters to take out all six spirits while dad only gets stronger. Anyway. Had fun watching the wackyness of A.I emblem. I hope you do it again some day.

I genuinely enjoyed it. If anything, it touches well on how I feel about AI. It won't make things perfect, but it can be great for refinement and idea generation.

The problem with these kinds of twists is that the bad guys and the dad tried their damnedest to kill each other on all previous encounters. You can't seriously tell me the dad and the Eclipses were so devoted to "the act" that all they were willing to give their own lives or kill their own leader for it. Unless the four Eclipses didn't actually know of Eldric's true identity until just then, or something. Also I love how Eldric kills Varian for literally no reason even though they were on the same side lol

For a series with so many great and wonderful maps, this last one doesn't do them justice as a finale. Nevermind the silly out of character betrayal of Eldric. Either way, this has been a really great series, and I am sad to see it end. Thanks for the great content!

I thought the plot twist was going to be that the father was involved with the Eclipse cult, but that he changed his way and fleed with the protags mother, only for the Eclipse to kill her off screen. Maybe the protag meant to be some sort of sacrifice, with the father originally being on board but changing his mind later.

That is such a great plot twist. I did not see that coming. But then again, Parents in Fire Emblem (or FE-like games) can either wound up dead or become evil and had to be put down by their children. Such tragic story indeed. And so, this hack by chatGPT has comes to an end. This is such a great and wonderful adventure. Excited as to what will Mangs do after this. Probably Rebellion Saga.

WHOOOOOOOOO, shadow of Aetheria, and what a twist, Eldric being the big bad guy…. Is it actually the first time that the Father character is the end boss of a FE game no? ….. Y’know what? i’m thinking of doing a little story recap and trying to fix the N U M E R O U S plot point in the story…. Cringe story ahead pls watch at your own risk (for information, any text with a * between them is to show pure speculation of me, and not something that the game show). OKAY, first, the land itself: Aetheria, one under the full control of the Aether Empire, was one a prosperous kingdom, until the king tried to use the Ether stone (*the sigils?, or actual magic stone that we don’t see in game*), to become more and more powerful, and even Omnipotent, this, of course did not go well and led to the Great Divide, that fractured the kingdom to different regions, each with their own Element, that ended up creating theyre own kingdoms. Speaking of kingdoms, here they are. - Firstly, good old Terra: The every day good guy land, rich soil, good people…. The good people kingdom, nothing more to say. - Ventus, the air kingdom, not much is shown about them but the few moment we have. They have been…. Unhelpful, sure, they are allied with Terra, as shows in chapter 2, but they just went there, killed the fake leader of the Eclispe, and left…. *how about we make the Ventus kingdom distant, not interested with the whole war against the eclypse? Sure they may be friend with Terra but the eclypse want’s them, not us… a bit janky but can work*. (i want to add that Elera is 100% a Ventus Citizen, and her friendship with Lioran has to mean that both kingdom at least as some sort of pact between them). - Aqua, the worst of the four, we have almost nothing for them, the only chapter we have is against blacktide who have the water Sigil….. *Hang on, why would a pirate have such a powerful item as the other’s are closed off in shrines…. What if….. the reason why Blacktide has is is because there is NO MORE Aqua to speak off? What if the kingdom died before the event of the game? That would explain why we have no aqua unit, why we hear nothing of them and why a pirate of all people has the Water sigil*. - Ignis, the ‘‘bad guy’’ contry…. *i think of this country a lot like Nohr. Born in volcanos and deserts, they grown strong AND cold to other’s. But it was when Varian/Eldric and the Eclypse cult shadowed puppet the entire Kingdom in search of the Fire Sigil that it all went bad, after destroying the Fire Sigil (*which i will cannon myself that they used the term Fire Emblem just to sound more majestic that just another Sigil*), they are now forced to start a war against Terra, i pity them to be honest. - Finally, Aether… Yes, there is ANOTHER Aether kingdom, it is shown in the introduction that mangs did. But, we see nothing of it, right? *well, what if, that kingdom was nothing more that a shadow of the past, the old Aether empire reduced to a joke of it’s former self…. And… What if, and hear me out, the Aether empire is where THE ECLYPSE WAS BORN* other than that, nothing is known. Now, the bad guy, the Eclypses cult, theyre gold is to conquer the entire land of Aetheria to reunite it and plunge it into chaos. *Hmmmmm, a group that want to unite the entire continent…. Like the old day of the Aether empire…. What if, the Aether kingdom, was the one behind this, in a quest to reform theyre former glory, they form the Eclypse cult, using necromancy and dark art to achieve that*. Led by Eldric, who is using Varian, who is using Cassian as a leader on the surface (double shadow control), they attack the Terra kingdom first as *Aqua is dead, Ventus is distant, they have no reason to attack themselves*, Ignis is under theyre control, which only mean that Terra is the final true enemy. Also, funny that Eldric character information is literraly the entire Eclypse plot, unite all of the kingdoms together. Finally, the moment you all been waiting for, the story: (warning, the final chapter are in a comment inside of my comment since my whole thing is WAYYY too long lol sorry for that). (Insert all of the land talk i’ve done here). Chapter 1: Dawn of Unity. After a moment of peace, Ignis and the Eclypse’s cult trikes at Terra, even managing to strike at theyre castle, probably with the help of Eldric. They attack Lioran and friends with Sir Dagon at the lead. Lioran win, but with the castle destroyed, After that, Eldric finally shows is face and decide to go to Ventus, old allies, to have them with them agaisnt the Eclypse. Chapter 2: Whispering Woods. Arriving at the whispering woods, in Ventus territory, seeking Aria, mage of Ventus, they goes there and suprise, Cassian, the ‘‘leader’’ of the Eclypse is there too, trying to hire Ventus soldiers to his ranks *and maybe to break the Ventus-Terra alliance*, they also recieves the help of a Turncoat wyvern ryder’s, Dorian. it fails, Cassian is dead and Aria is saved. *Sadly, she bears the news that Ventus will not help in the war agaisnt the Eclypse.*, with the news in hand, they returned to Terra to plot theyre next move. Chapter 3: Sands of distrust. After some ploting, they decide to attack Ignis, and theyre first battle are throught the desert of Ignis. They have to fight agaisnt Ignis troops, lead by Malik, Traitor to Ignis and follower of the Eclypse, warmongering nomads and the land itself. They also got Rahim, nomad who lost his tribe to ignis and search for reason, and Zahra, a prodigy healer of a nearby Ignis town. After the fight, Zahra and Dorian inform the group of a stronghold / temple hidden in the desert, homebase of the Eclypse cult, or at least a strong base for them. They, of course, goes there to finally end them. Chapter 4: The Eclipse Temple. Finally at the Eclypse temple, they meet the ‘‘true’’ Eclypse leader, Varian, and his Generals, Selene , Cyrus, Orion and Larissa, they also found Jaxon, a random thief that got in to… well steal (*probably tought that the place was empty*), and Sepharina a temple guardian for hires. And of course, as any temples should, the security is rough with trap tiles and the Sentinels. But, they succeed nontheless and Selene is either dead or flees. Sadly, this isn’t the end for the Eclypse, but they do found a gem, (*as for the gems power, i alway think of it as a ‘radar’ of sorts, used to find the Sigils in times of need, and so that’s how they knew of all of theyre locations*. With the gem’s in hand, they decide to leave the place to strategise some more, the idea of fighting Ignis push to another time as a more dangerous force is in play. Chapter 5: Shadows of the Past. Gem in had, they decide to go to Calthera, a remote neutral village to strategise their next move. Sadly, because of the gem, Varian wants them gone, and sent Cyrus with a band of hired merc to raze the village to the ground (why kill our men when a few gold coin can do the trick?). Eldric is being SUS. Other than that typical City Defense chapter, Cyrus is 100% a has-been grand hero that fell from glory and turned to petty war-crime. You also get Lilia, a wandering troubadour, and Kaelan, a Vigilante paladin from the west that seeks justice. In the end, Cyrus is dead or flee out of boredom. Of course Lioran see that Eldric is S U S, we also earn that the sages of the Luminous Temple may be able to show the true potential of the gem (who can also conteract Varian influence but that plotpoint doesn’t go anywhere). But first. They must go retrieve something else. Chapter 6: Echoes of the Earth. The Earthen Sigil, the sigil kepted by the Terra Kingdom, theyre most valuable item, useful in the war agaisnt the Eclypse, sadly, Orion, General of the Eclypse, is already here, and seeks it. (*Let’s be honest, Orion is 1000000% an old member of Ignis, just look at him), again, Eldric is sus, but nontheless, as any temple should, it is protected by a Guardian, a spirit of yore, *maybe to when the Aether empire was still intact*. You also get Sariya, the, again, typical rogue that think of themselves and greed first. And Thane, an almost psychotic swordman with glass bone and searves as the Edgy swordmen. In the end, Orion is dead or flee and the Sigil is ours, with it in hand they can finally go to the luminous temple… *maybe all of it was a trap so that the Eclypse shaman’s could corrupt the sages there hmmmm…..* (*ALSO also, the reason why light magic users are in the Eclypse, honestly i think of it that they are just Aether soldier’s that join the Eclypse in the name of their former glory*). Chapter 7: Beacon of the Sages. At the Luminous temple, oh no, the sages and high sage Emeric are corrupted by the Eclypse Summoner’s, and so the group must kill the summoner’s and saves the sages yade-yada you know the drill. You also get, Garrick the hero, vasal and friend of Velina, a mage killer and Velina the Sage, member of the luminous temple that survived the whole think as she was on a mission when it all happened. The eclypse are dead and Emeric and co are saved. The group gives them the gem so that he can decipher it, he also gives him the Skyrend Blade, a holy weapon from times when the empire was still standing, made from mineral of yore, Lioran FINALLY get a promotion and become the guardian of the entire lands, the Aether guardian. *After that, not much is known, we sent out on a quest to find all of the other sigils without much explanation, so, my theorie is that Emeric found the truth of the gem and simply told them some times later.* Okay, i took WAAAYYYY too long for this, but it as been a joy writing it, even if it’s just a Cringe fanfic of it, there is probably also plot hole in my interpretation, but how well, not gonna read trhought it again. Still such a fun adventure, awaiting the Ironman :D

I’m pretty sure ChatGPT got this idea from the fact that well known FEmblem games had their dad killed at some point. Examples are Blazing sword, Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance. Mangs calling out Last Promise’s ending boss was pretty funny too

Well, that was some journey with such hack that AI came up with the story and the rest of the concept. I can imagine sometime in the future, someone's gonna make some fixes: -Portraits move their mouths. -Improve their growths, including Lioran, while he's fine, the speed's the only growth I think it can improve so he won't be a nearly useless lord. To me, those are the only things that need to fix, but other than that, good job ChatGPT for doing his best in this hack that work on paper, but the execution was flawed.

Considering the fact that the AI only give itself 12 chapters, it was quite a nice story. Sure it was really rush, but if it was a 25+ chapters game, it could be a good one. Of course the dad need to die, it's just tradition at this point.

The day has come AI Emblem is over. The hack has definitely it's highs and downs, the maps and gimmicks are surprisingly very creative. The chapters that I hated were ch3, ch7 & ch11 and the chapters that I liked are ch5, ch8 & ch9. The only problems I have with the hack is the lack of promotion items and the scaling of enemys. I hope someone makes rebalanced version of the hack because it's definitely needed Thank you mangs for making this series I enjoyed playing it!

The hack righting is on par with a good portion of FE games. Love it.
