We take a break at Kecskemét for our MÁV Class 424 4-8-0 coal fired steam locomotive No.424.009 to be serviced and for passengers to have time to look around the town and find a suitable place for refreshments. Locals visited the station to see the train and pose for photographs in front of or to the side of the locomotive. Having watched a number of trains come and go, it was now our turn to set off on the next leg of our circular tour back to Budapest. We left the overhead electrified network behind as we travelled back in time along a scenic single track railway that took our train through pleasant rolling farmland, forests and pretty villages. A succession of locomotive hauled trains and DMU's that would have looked perfectly at home in the 60's completed the scene. Our route took us past stations with unpronounceable names such as Hetényegyháza, Ceglédbercel-Cserő and Nagykőrös before we joined the busy main line for the last few kilometres into Budapest's Nyugati station .

Interesting to see that it is not just us Brit's who are enthusiastic/daft enough to stand out in all weathers to see a steam loco go past!

The Hungarians love their steam locomotives and just like the Brits it takes a lot more than a rain shower to stop them coming out to capture the moment.

Tim, Just like I have thoroughly enjoyed Part 1 of this series, Driver's Eye View (Hungary), Budapest to Kecskemét, I have equally enjoyed the Part 2, Kecskemét to Budapest. I love luscious greenery stretching as far as the eye can see. It is a very beautiful part of the world. Your Parts 1 and 2, make me feel like I have visited Hungary thereby fulfilling my mother’s wish, “One day you should visit Hungary…” When I took the Danube trip decades ago, I was in my early twenties and unfortunately I did not have a camera and I don’t recall much of that trip. If possible, one of these days, I would like to see a trip from Budapest to Bucharest on the Danube River. I know this is a tall request and wishful thinking. I want to deeply thank you for producing such an excellent series. May the Gods give you the energy and strength to produce more of these wonderful productions.

Thank you, its nice read comments like the one you posted. I started out as a travel channel, but these days I mostly post videos showing train rides, I love to see the world from the comfort of railway carriage, although there is little doubt that the locomotive crew get the best view of the surrounding countryside. I enjoy visiting Hungary, the people are friendly, Budapest is a beautiful city and the countryside looks very fertile judging by the healthy crops growing everywhere. I have visited many cities located on the banks of the Danube and watched the hotel type river boats making their way sedately from capital city to capital city, it looks very relaxing, maybe it's something I'll do one day. I have one last train trip filmed in Hungary to post, it should be ready shortly after Christmas. I am looking to visit Romania in the next year or so, it looks a fascinating country. Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts, your comment is appreciated.

Back in 2014 I travelled from Vienna to Budapest on a Railjet service and was astonished to see a steam loco loom up out of the mist !! No idea what it was. but it was not there a few days later when I returned !!

I'm sure Tim's all jabbed to the eyeballs to get around, under the impression he is 'protected'.... look at that lovely Chemtrail at 57:47

I've only had the jabs I have to have to travel and twice I've arrived home with the virus having caught it whilst travelling, fortunatly mother nature seems to be bringing the virus under control, it's nowhere near as bad as it was. Chemtrails are few and far between in Hungary, I think they prefer to go by train when it comes to shorter journeys.

There should be a water column on most stations, if a journey is that long. Very nice ride.
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 10 месяцев назад
The only steam trains on these lines are the occasional special excursions and they take water from hydrants located at some of the stations, they take a lot longer to fill the water tank and that is why we had an extended stop at Kecskemét. The same happens on the UK main line where steam trains also take water from hydrants or sometimes a tanker lorry, I’ve even seen a fire engine used.

Very tall loco with a very high centre of gravity.
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 9 месяцев назад
It does look that way, I think advantage was taken of the larger loading gauge to make the running gear accessible for maintenance; the locomotive ride was rock steady.

Nearing Budapest who else saw all four tracks moving forward? It was crazy. Not many passengers at Budapest railway station. That's good. No population pressure unlike other European cities.
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 9 месяцев назад
There is a visual illusion in the way the camera picks out the sleepers (rail ties) that make it appear that the track itself is moving. Budapest it not an overcrowded city, it has a nice feel to it.

Even as we move off, interest grows. There's a large number of car transporter wagons (at the left of screen}. Is there an auto manufacturer in the area? Perhaps the transporters are manufactured or repaired here.
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 10 месяцев назад
Hi, I looked on the internet to find out if cars were manufactured in the area, I was surprised to learn that Hungary is home to a very active manufacturing sector, including bus, truck and automotive production lines; this article is interesting - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_industry_in_Hungary

Truly a beautiful place, Looks like the locals love there trains but Neil has got me a bit confused is that standard gauge or broad 🤣😂😁 thanks Tim for a great journey now i'm going to watch the Wales vid cheers Bob.
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 10 месяцев назад
Hello Bob, I'm glad you enjoyed the ride and it was nice to see so many locals lining the route to witness the passing of a steam train. I get where Neil is coming from, some of the former communist countries use the Russian Gauge 5 ft (1,524 mm), but Hungary isn't one of them, it uses standard gauge. I usually state the rail gauge somewhere in the video description. I hope you enjoy the Welsh video. Cheers. Tim.
