This is Part 2 of our road trip to Key West in 2021 so if you haven't seen our first video make sure you check that out. We traveled from Hobe Sound Florida to Key West on HWY 1 which took about 4.5 hours without any stops. With stops for lunch and a few things we forgot to bring it took about 6 hours. We spent most of our time walking Duval Street and enjoying the local beach at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. We only had about a day and a half in Key West because we were camping two nights and had our dog with us.
There is a Dog Beach located downtown near Duval Street but unfortunately it was very smelly and the seaweed took over most of the beach. We were able to find Fort Zachary State Park which an employee at the campground we were staying suggested. The water there was by far the cleanest and bluest water we saw while in the Keys. Kato (our dog) wasn't allowed on the beach but he was allowed near the picnic tables which were actually located very close to the beach so it wasn't a big deal at all. We were able to get our new DAMA paddleboard in the water which was super fun to cruise around on but difficult to stand up with the choppy waters and boats constantly cruising by.
After the beach we changed in a parking lot nearby and went to check out the bands on Duval Street. The annual Songwriters festival was going on so we saw quite a few country bands which was a nice treat. Kato was allowed to enter all the bars we asked so that was a pleasant change than what we are used to. He even got water before we got to order anything so the staff was super helpful.
All the bars and shops on Duval street are super cool. We especially liked how Gay friendly the area is as its hard to find places like that. All together we had a great time in Key West. We both agreed next time we would leave the dog at home because it did limit what we could do in such a short period of time.
