I cried through so much of this video. I cant wait to see where my mum came from. Its beautiful. Its the journey I have to make with my family. Thanks for sharing this.
Loved the story, very emotional seeing your family visiting you. Watching this reminds me of growing up in Upolu. What a beautiful place Rotuma is, unspoilt, natural beauty. Interesting to hear some Samoans lived there. "Tatou tagata folau", we are voyagers indeed. Long live our Polynesian peoples and our history.
Just absolutely loved this. Vinaka Tagata Pasifika and Ngaire. Oh Ruby finally turned Rotuman mode in the end :). Beautiful Island made awesome by its wonderful people.
Really moving documentary. Malo au'pito lahi tagatapasifika1, Ngaire is such a beautiful woman with beautiful mana, u can sense this in her, her daughter adapted better than I did when Mum took me 4 1st visit back to Tonga - I hated it 4 1st few wks but then afterward I didn't wanna leave, my Father being frm E.Coast NZ growing up rural & having been 2 Tonga many times b4 me absolutely loved it surprisingly. back then there was no electricity but Rotuma wot a incredible ppl & incredible country!
Growing up in Fiji Suva,I had a lot of primary friends from Rotuma lovely people, now married to a samoan I always thought rotuma and samoan a similar just my opinion 😁
Thanks for this. It reminds me of who i am and of who i came to be and on how i am proud to have come from a unique and hidden paradise. I understand and value the importance of culture as it shapes up who we are today. It is indeed important for us to share this with the younger generation so that it is not being lost to this current modern and western era that has greatly impacted us.
Beautiful Island and its lovely people..thank you for sharing your experiences with your family and friends...my grandfather came from Rutuma and one day I will visit Rutoma..when you cry you make me cry also 😢 God bless Rutoma
A proud and happy people in a beautiful part of the world, God bless Rotuma. The sprinkling of talcum powder is also performed in Kiribati as a sign of appreciation. No tourists, no mobile phones, no TV, or internet, what a life! Sad your father was sick and couldn't go, he would have loved the return to island, good to see he was recovering in your last video.
I went 2 Kailua & saw the breathtaking mountains with the mist (i dont wanna admit its vog) & it was soooo green & lush reminded me of home - NZ, but yet still had its own uniqueness that only belongs to Hawaii. I feel so privileged to be on the land our ancestors walked. Waikiki beach is a big shopping mall on a beach - thats it!! I'll be heading off 2 Hilo (big island) & then Maui, I hope 2 make it 2 Lanaii - i've just begun my journey & I intend 2 go 2 Rotuma what a BEAUTY!!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience. I was so curious about Rotuma as I am in the process of searching for my husband's ancestors who are from Uea, Rotuma. I hope you were able to return again with your siblings to your beloved island.
i love to go to rotuma one day..my family is full of mixed blood and one of them is rotuman..my great great grandmother is alisi tui rotuma from rotuma..one day i will go there for a visit
Thanks again for sharing.Your vid is well produced and well presented.Thank you. So you have a connection to Samoa too where I’m from. It makes me cry. It’s so emotional.
This made me cry, I admire your strong bond and respect to your root!. I'm another Nesian, my grandma's great grandpa was Dutch too, his name was Jack Sandbergen. My grandma said he was from some place in Holland close to sea/coast and had a lot of ships/boats and had one of the oldest windmill there....I always wonder where that would be and if he's still got family there!!.
names are very alike to Samoan names in this part of the pacific that people were belong together from the beginning ( family) now she also known as a Samoan as well .Very good discovery for her and she seems to be very proud of it( interesting )story..
awesome document heard of stories from my parents about magical parts of rotuma and the abundance of food- damn I lived in Fiji and migrated to Aussie but never had a chance to go to Rotuma... I hope to visit Rotuma one day and catch up with my parents families... from Aussie QLD
and she's right about no tourism spoiling Rotuma, I'm in Hawaii right now, on Oahu & evry1 kept saying go 2 Waikiki beach, go 2 Honolulu, seriously, tourism wrecked this country. I came here 2 find out where our ppl came frm & all the awful tourists here ruin this beautiful ancient land. BUT the Hawaiians r so beautiful even tho there country got pissed on by U.S military/gov, japanese tourists etc the Hawaiians still have that real Pacific spirit. it's the most beautiful spirit.
I’m frm Fiji beautiful island plus people I just don’t get why ppl talk about traditions, customs etc It’s all rubbish made by our ancestors when they believe in spiritual man made back in a day World growing faster real thingz and opportunities out there !!! Why ppl bring out man made customs rubbish!!! Enjoy life according nature or feature thanks
