Love this I'm from South Africa Cape town and my Great Grandfather was from Rotuma found his way to Mauritius where my Grandmother was born then she came to South Africa where she met my half German Grandfather and the rest they say is history....I would love really love to visit Rotuma would love to take my boys to learn more about my roots.
My father is Rotuman (Iane Atu Crocker) and I hope to visit one day. I have been researching online about the culture and finding footage such as this is wonderful. Have a blessed Rotuma Day 2017
This is a beautiful story and more so, well produced. I think we need more like these; especially for those of us who live far away from Rotuma. This story draws us close as we can easily identify with it in its entirety.
I'm trying hard to teach my children who are half fijian n half indian to speak rotuman language....it has just been listed recently by the United nation as an endangered language that will extinct in a few years if not pass down. My sister is rotuman n she lost her mom who was a rotuman when she was a baby...i feel obligated to learn n preserve it for the next generation...definitely will be visiting that island when we plan our to fiji.
What a lovely video, I was to have went to Rotuma in 1997 from Lautoka but sadly didn't make it across. I went to Rabi Island instead, now I know what I missed. I have always been told about the legendary hospitality of Rotuma and the great people there. You have lovely relatives and family, cherish them.
Amazing story and thanks for sharing. I never get tired of watching these kind of documentaries as I’m one of them too trying to take my grown ups children and grandchildren to the island one more time.
Beautiful story and have a very emotional feelings with tears when you watching..... so the right word is roots origin is very important in our lives. You traveled around the globe 🌎 but you have your own roots....Bloods Of Origin from ancestors....Thanks for understanding where your roots came from.....love it.
@ro2ma Happy Rotuma day. Rotuma is my fnew avourite place in the Pacific. You should be very proud. All the best and thanks for your comments. Faiakse'ea!
Like Ngaire I hope to visit my Rotuma one day.. My mum and dad are rotumans and I believe my bro has visited the island - Iam not sure what family I have left from my mum and dad's sides...my mum from Motusa and dad from itumuta not sure...
were rotumans but we were born in Samoa, Like this gentleman my parents also kinda gave up saying Rotuman as most people asked where it was instead we just say were samoans. Id still like to visit and find out where great grandads from in Rotuma. Im 3rd generation now living in Aotearoa.
Oh man she should of gotten the plane to Rotuma. Now that I have seen this I am definately not going to be travelling to Rotuma by boat! The only reason why I said that is because I would literally die from seeing all the cockroaches
No there is no tourism on the island and most who go there have a connection there via roots, family, etc. you have to fly into Nadi first and then go by boat or small plane to the one small runway on the island.
yeah that ship ride is a big fat blistering NO for me. Im sure she woke up and broke down started crying. you can see it in her eyes. omg smh.. cockroaches probably all on the food and shit smh
