This video is designed to give a basic and thorough overview of the Moog DFAM (Drummer from another Mother). The DFAM is a complex, yet simple, percussive synth that can be very hard to get the hang of. This series breaks down the complexities of the DFAM into small and manageable chunks. By the end of the series, you'll have a strong understanding of each part of the DFAM and how it contributes to the overall sound as well as how it interacts with the other parts. Additionally, the videos will cover how to use the patchbay and give helpful pairing tips so you can build your own DFAM patches.
As a bonus - there are some videos on building patches from scratch and videos covering completed patches for you to use.
There are more resources on my Patreon Page including a full color eBook of DFAM patches with links to tutorial videos. The eBook will be updated regularly with new patches and tips.

2:22 Do you know where we can learn how to read signal flow graphs? The graphs in Wikipedia article about signal flow graphs seem to be very different.
@braintree56
@braintree56 Месяц назад
I'm not really sure. Overall, it's mostly just lines pointing to where everything goes. My guess is that if you continue to revisit the graph as you become more familiar with the synth it will start to be come clear. Try to break it down and understand one small part of the graph. It will eventually start to make sense.... Sorry I couldn't be more help.

It makes sense. I thought the symbols follow a widespread convention that should be learned first, but now it seems that the symbols are not so difficult and can be understood simply revisiting the graph as you have suggested. I will do this. Thank you.

So the VCA output and the headphone output in the back are both stereo?
@braintree56

No they are both mono.

This is a bit off topic, but what about connecting the DFAM to a DAW/laptop? I'm using a Presonus Audiobox 96 and Reaper. The initial live sound though the headphones sounds amazing, but the recordings are very flat 😭 Could you do an extra short episode covering the settings and usual problems, or you have done so and I haven't found it? Thanks a lot

Can you tell me a little more about your setup? Where are you plugging your headphones in?

Are you using TRS cables?

@@braintree56 I'm using patch cables with 1/4 inch adapters at the ends. Could that the problem? (But when I'm recording the set up is the same, and like I mentioned, the headphones are always plugged in the same place)
@braintree56
@braintree56 Год назад
@@prometheusboat Interesting. First thing I would do is make sure that you are not using TRS cables. That's the only thing I've read about that's giving people signal problems. I haven't had this experience so it's difficult to speculate why it's happening... I'm not sure the TRS cables would cause a problem if the headphones are plugged in after the signal already passed through them.
