When doing heavy haulage, it's always great to have brilliant escorts. Have now seen quite a few of your videos, and Alain is really on top of it all and keeps you safe

It never fails to amaze me how these routes are designated by the State as "OK for height" but are definitely not. Especially when they're routing you through rural, small-town Virginia and East Pennsylvania.
@lancecluster
@lancecluster 11 месяцев назад
100 percent agree. Sometimes I wonder if they are attempting to discourage future oversized loads. I also wonder if Cat couldn't have done a slightly better job with "packaging", I wonder how much "open space" is in that box and whether the roof could have been made to be lowered for transport and then raised to the height needed to maintain the genset?

Ought to send this video to all DOT permitting departments as an educational service. I bet you that half these permitting folks have no clue where they sent these oversized loads into..

@mostlyinterested1016
@mostlyinterested1016 11 месяцев назад
@@michaelk7111 I did not drive semis, I only sent loads - usually cranes to refurbish the power plants. I can only relate to you the stories the truckers brought back. Any route that requires you to actually stop to negotiate wires, other than in Winter when the weight causes them to sag, should not, IMHO, be a "route". Funny thing was, I used to have some great friends in ODOT and they told me they ran crews every day in Ohio with "tickle sticks" mounted on their vehicles to see where there were low wires. They could certify heights for each route at certain levels so you guys could maintain traffic flows.
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407

@mostlyinterested1016 our routes are all pre verified. But they only care about hard obstacles like bridges and overpasses. They don’t bother with tree branches or wires.

The USA is still using the home movers guide that was used back in the 50's to route trucks, this is why you are going thru all of the little towns. That guide was supposed to be made obsolete many years ago, but many states still use it.

Good job! When I used to do heavy equipment haul, it seemed as though they always put us on the smallest, crappiest roads with a multitude of low hanging wires. Never could figure that out. I had many a state patrol and Canadian MP tell me the same thing. Paper pushers back in the office - you got to love them since they have no idea what the hell they're doing. Then you always had drivers that just sat there like a frozen turd in the middle of the road and weren't smart enough to move over out of the way! Guess that's enough of my bitching for now - LOL

Is the touch pole on the lead car a bit taller than the load, or almost exactly the same height? i'd expect a bit taller to account for raising the trailer or not, and variations in the road height from one end of the rig to the other.
