It might help to know that, in order to drill the holes through the Rock Jock base plate, the Milwaukee Cobalt bits are the only ones I was able to get to work. I wore down two other "bi-metal," 1-1/4" bits, taking hours to barely make a circle in the steel plate. I went back and rewatched this video and paused it to see which bit you were using. Ran down to Home Depot and bought the Milwaukee bit, which did the job in less than a minute! It was like cutting through butter!
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 4 года назад
Glad you got it to work. It was a tough metal to get through, but the Milwaukee bit made it easy. 😀

@@WeRmudfun, Chuck it was crazy tough and I don't think I would have gotten through without reviewing your video and discovering the Milwaukee bits! I also bought a set of small Milwaukee bits to drill the screw holes and a ground wire mount to the frame!

I greatly enjoyed the install video. I have one question, is the brake light relay necessary? If I am towing, no one is in the Jeep to press the brake. Or have I missed something?
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 2 года назад
Thanks! You only need a Brake-Lite Relay if you're installing a supplemental towed vehicle braking system that pushes or pulls the brake pedal. 😀

Nice tip on routing the wire through the frame. Did you use an electrical fish tape to get that pull wire in there?

Enjoyed the video, was a great help when installing my Hopkins tail light wiring for my Wrangler. Did you notice your 3rd brake light no longer works while the wiring is plugged into your fuse box? Mine does not work after installation either.
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 6 лет назад
Correct, the 3rd brake light will not work when you are towing the Jeep. It is a separate system and the harness does not control it. It should be working when you are driving the Jeep though. If not check your fuse for the 3rd brake light.

I love your videos and just about to order all my components for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK, however in part 3 you explained the wiring kit and at the very end you added a 6way plug on the Towed Jeep. You never showed the electrical connector from the 7-Way RV Trailer Plug to the 6 way Toad plug you showed in your video. Do I need to purchase the Roadmaster Part #15267 All in one Towed Vehicle 6-7-wire Towing Combination? It appears that this kit comes with the coiled electrical wire from the RV to Towed, plus the brackets and 6 way plug? Please advise.

@@WeRmudfun , have you had many problems with damage from rocks or road debris?
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 4 года назад
@@jays8321 No, we caught a rock from a truck passing us in a construction zone in PA. the windshield had to be replaced, but any kind of shield would not have stopped that from happening. We actually saw the rock, that lane should have been closed. The over hang after our rear axle is huge. Any debris that we pick up doesn't make it to the Jeep to do damage. That's what we are seeing. Protection is a personal choice. If we ever see any, we may reconsider.

Enjoyed your videos! Given the way the RJ baseplate is designed, have you had any issues with the approach angle of the electrical coil cable between coach and tow at the 6pin connector? Seems the 55deg angle may stress the cable? Thanks

Sir, I have hooked up everything as the video instructed. I grounded it to a clean piece of the frame. I connected it to the RV with a Hopkins 7 blade to 6 way pin adapter. Each end of the adapter light up when plugged in but I am getting nothing to the lights in the Jeep. What can I be doing wrong, or how can I check to locate the problem? Any suggestions are appreciated. Great Videos

@@RobertBrown-yd4sy Without being there to see it, are you sure the wires going into the 6 way are in the right places? If the lights still work on the Jeep normally, my only other thought is wiring kit is at fault. This is the first I have heard of anyone having this problem. I would consider giving Hopkins a call.
@RobertBrown-yd4sy
@RobertBrown-yd4sy 3 года назад
@@WeRmudfun Thank you for your time and suggestion I appreciate it. I will check the wiring in the 6 pin end again. I will also check the blades on the 7 prong, as I have never used them before. There is power though, because the light comes on in the Hopkin adapter at each end.
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 3 года назад
@@RobertBrown-yd4sy That is the point I am making. In troubleshooting from my couch, you have power coming from the RV going to the adapter, but the lights are not working on the Jeep. So you start with where the power stops. I would check to see if the power is passing through the 6 way plug on the Jeep and work my way back towards the lights. Hopefully you will find the problem.

Followed the video and installed the Hopkins #56200 kit on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler, but after installation brake lights not working when plugged into Motorhome, all others lights work fine. I am flat towing a 2014 jeep wrangler jk with a Jayco greyhawk. I used your kit and sliced into a 6 pin round in the front of my jeep bumper that connects to the class c rv via a 7 pin. My right brake light does not come on, but the right brake signal does work. Lights come on with headlights too. I check continuity on my 7 to 6 pin cable for the green/right brake/turn signal and comes out good. Where should I go from here..I don’t understand why the right turn signal would work but not the brake light

When you was using "Reese Towpower 74686 Coiled 7-Way Blade to 4-Flat Adapter", did you cut off 4-Flat and replace it with 6-way?
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 7 лет назад
We don't use the Reese Towpower. We use a 6 way to 6 way coiled and a 7 way to 6 way adapter. The only reason we even use the 6 way is so we can have a toad brake monitoring light in the RV.
@static75
@static75 5 лет назад
New RV's are using a 7-way blade socket. Is there any reason not to use a 7-way blade socket on the Jeep as well? What make/mode of coiled electrical cable are you using? Thanks!
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 5 лет назад
The only reasons we used 6-way is that is what we were already using. The other reason is a 7-way plug on a Jeep is a lot bigger socket than a 6-way, so it's personal preference, we like the way a smaller plug looks better. :) There no reason you couldn't do a 7-way plug on both ends. This is the original cable we got from Amazon years ago... amzn.to/2M8h58H

I've heard of people having a dead battery on the Jeep after towing it across the country. In the way that you hooked it up, I assume the power for the brake lights is coming from the RV and not the battery in the Jeep, is that correct? In that case, what would cause a dead battery?
@WeRmudfun
@WeRmudfun 5 лет назад
You are correct, the power comes from the RV not the Jeep. The reason people have dead batteries, depends on the year of their Jeep. In some of the years the key was required to be in the ignition so the steering wheel wouldn't be locked position. Some years, such as ours the steering wheel doesn't lock, so after hookup the key doesn't need to be in the ignition. Heck, the key is not even in the Jeep! LOL
