I remember Super 6 as one of the cartoon series I only watched in black and white when I was a little kid. Poor Elevator Man,he's the only one main hero without a sidekick but at least he narrates his own story.
Watched a couple episodes of Super Six on RU-vid, and I have to ask, were they always so casual about killing the villain? The ones I saw involved a living snowman, who got melted and Boing was forced to mop the HQ floor with the resulting bucket of water, and the other, Granite Man's bird sidekick sprayed the mad scientist and his lackey with their own invention that erased anything from reality.
That reminded me of HB Young Samson. He shared the half hour with The Space Kidettes, which I was not that fond of. But since they were the second segment, I had to endured an episode in order to see the second Young Samson episode.. I was 7/10 when the Super 6 was originally on. I remembered Bwoing's take off lines, but that's about it. Was probably watching the HB cartoons at the time. 😄
Another cartoon series that I watched and enjoyed as a kid. It's nice that you're doing RU-vid posts on all those unknown cartoon shows from the past. I look forward to seeing what you have coming up.
I only learned of the Super 6 thanks to the wonder that is RU-vid a couple years back. I know I would've loved it as a kid; anything superhero and even if comical like Mighty Heroes, Super Globetrotters, Blue Falcon & Dyno-Mutt and even the Super (Three) Stooges (though I mentally kept editing it all to be serious). But for whatever reason it wasn't shown or rerun in my area. Mighty Heroes have been brought back in cameos over the years; I hope the same goes for these. But this is by far the most info I've seen on them. Great job yet again. Can't wait for Super Chicken (but I'll just settle for having the theme song stuck in my head again. Oh any votes for Captain Nemo from Captain Kangaroo?
I'm surprised Marvel didn't go after the Magneto Man name for its similarity to Magneto, but maybe the combination of being pronounced differently and having "Man" after it was enough to make it distinct. Also, since the show was made up of three segments, it definitely would've been a much better idea to dedicate them to half of the six heroes per episode.
the spider-man cartoon from the 60s also had a character named "dr. magneto" but it was pronounced the same way. i'm just bringing it up cause i thought what you say is interesting, tho this adds more mystery to the mix
now that i watched this, i wonder if "the ripping friends" was meant as a parody of this show. it seems like spumco added their mascot "jimmy" to the cast of that show as kind of a riff on superboing.
I discovered this series by happenstance, and I have mixed feelings about it. Like you I got tired of Super Bwoing quickly. I loved your description of him as Gilligan with super powers; no wonder I found him so annoying, Gilligan's Island is one of the first shows that I hated and it was because of him. The Brothers Matzoriley was a weird idea, but I definitely like their cartoons better as they are not only more tolerable characters the writing is definitely funnier. The best part though is always the other 5 members of Super 6 in who I like to varying degrees, but they're all fun and they should have been the main focus of the series. How cool would it have been to see them all have a turn over just 2 episodes. I'd love to see this series get a reboot that does just that.
I could never stand Super Boing, and found the Matzorily Brothers boring as meh. The show really dragged waiting for the short bit with one of the real superheroes. They should have just featured them.
