There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

I love to hear that Clarance "The Sellout" Thomas went through such hardship in his early years only to decide, "More people should go through what I did" in his rulings later in life. He perfectly embodies the, "I got mine so F you" mentality in modern Conservatives.

He is the embodiment of opposing student loan relief because "but i had to pay it (when it wasn't *quite* so bleak!) If i had to suffer, you should too!"
@Grizabeebles

It's even worse. Not only does he refuse to recognize that the foundations for his success were laid by others, he still has the "strip all the copper out of the walls" mentality that was beaten into him in childhood.

Took a class on the Supreme Court as part of my degree, which really hammered home to me how much the idea of the SCOTUS as a politically neutral body driven by procedure, law, and precedent is an utter fiction. One thing that stood out to me though is when discussing current and recent Justices is how universally disliked Thomas is among his peers. Scalia and Ginsberg famously had a good friendship despite their ideological differences to the point of passing silly notes to each other and their families spending time together. No one, conservative or liberal, likes Thomas.

Minus the really draconian stuff, I feel strong echoes of this Meyers SOB in my dad. I was never forced to work in unsafe conditions, but I sure got spanked, thrown around and ridiculed plenty. My long history of trauma has, I think, left me MORE empathetic to people who struggle. It really blows my mind how, for so many who grow up in such environments and manage to escape, their mindset becomes, "Well I went through hell, so why should I help make things any easier for you?" Fuck, man.

Those are the same kind of people who say 'I had a shitty childhood and I turned out fine!' No. If you insist on repeating history with your own children, then you did not, in fact, turn out fine. I've read and heard plenty of stories of people with abusive parents/families who made the same kinds of excuses, and it's mind-boggling how some people go through that kind of life and then just willingly inflict it upon their own offspring.

I had the same thought. I just... I want to cry for him. This man is my enemy, and I want to cry for him. But I can't fix it, and dude wouldn't let me even if I could. But hey, I am really glad you chose the path of empathy, instead. It's the harder path, and it hurts worse, but it's the better path to being stronger. Keep it up, stranger.

Good time for this episode to be uploaded here, given yet more news on his shittiness. From ProPublica, Dec 18: "Interviews and newly unearthed documents reveal that Thomas, facing financial strain, privately pushed for a higher salary and to allow Supreme Court justices to take speaking fees."

The ProPublica article makes it seem less like "People just took advantage of Clarence Thomas' poor financial situation to influence him" and more along the lines of "CLARENCE THOMAS WAS OPENLY ADVERTISING HE WANTED TO BE BRIBED, WHY, IF ONLY THIS RV AND HOME PAID FOR ITSELF. POOR ME, SOMEONE SHOULD PAY MY STUDENT LOANS" And the fact that nobody spat in his face and told him in 2000 that "You make nearly $200,000 just existing, shut the fuck up" and people *_actually took his claim seriously_* just says a lot about how fucked this whole system is.
@hellbreakfast1590
@hellbreakfast1590 9 месяцев назад
Holy shit. I. The first half, about Thomas' upbringing was actually legitimately triggering to someone who endured childhood abuse. I had to ground and breathe, how horrible this poor man suffered. Dudes will get on the fucking Supreme Court and take rights away from others INSTEAD OF GETTING FUCKING THERAPY FOR THEIR SEVERE AND OBVIOUS TRAUMA. I keep crying "It ain't fair. He shouldn'a had to endure that, it ain't fuckin' fair!" It doesn't take back what he's done, doesn't excuse it. But it shines a light on the direction we need to reform society in, no matter if Thomas himself stands against it. Education, social programs, access to proper health care, food and a place to live. All of these things are what's actually good for children's wellbeing.

To be fair to McCain, I don’t think he was at risk of ever being tortured again when he developed his “torture is bad” stance. So it’s not really a good example of conveniently changing your morals when you benefit from it, the way Thomas did, so much as it’s an example of the republican tendency to have issues empathizing until it directly impacts them.

Yts attacking Black conservatives is a form of verbal lynching, and anybody who says otherwise is participating in that lynching. Bashing Black conservatives is bashing Black people, plain and simple. And doing it while yt constitutes incitement to violence. This is doing the work of the KKK for them. I’m tired of the phrase “race card” being used to shut down all discussions of race because this discussion about why yt shitlibs, especially those neither Gay nor Jewish, think that racist hate speech against Black conservatives is acceptable is going to happen and it is going to be a one-way conversation in which they stop using words and let those they demonize speak for themselves.

Conservaphobia is basically an umbrella prejudice that encompasses all the others and lampshades it by using anti-conservatism to justify anti-Blackness, anti-Judaism, anti-womanhood, and anti-homosexuality. Attacking minority conservatives for being conservatives is attacking minorities for being minorities. It is saying you do not have the right to your own opinion unless you belong to one of the oppressor classes. This channel is nothing but conservaphobic boomer-adjacent shitlib bilge, pure and simple. “Man bad, GOP bad, whites bad” is hate speech no matter how many multisyllabic synonyms you use for it.
