I played this song hundreds of times in top-40 bands throughout the 1980's. I haven't played or heard it in 35 years but it came back to me after only a few times through it. Thanks to muscle memory!! The drum pattern is trickier than it looks.

I usually listen to Chicago Song but today I took some time to view your covers. In a word “WOW”! Perfect example of what I always tell my kid… that we are constantly planting seeds in the lives of others. You inspired me today. Thank you!

I recorded a cover of the Prince song (Sexy MF) a few months ago but it was completely blocked by RU-vid. I don't think Prince's estate allows any copyright infringement. I'll try again.

Prince's songs are blocked due to copyright infringement. I just tried to upload Sexy MF and it was blocked again. The closest I can get to a Prince song is this one: 777-9311. ALOT OF HI HAT on this song. Best song to practice tempo for hats for it is steady groove throughout the song. It worked for me. And still does to thus day. Great work my friend. 🫡

Stevie Wonder didn't actually play the drums on this track but he did create the pattern on a drum machine, which means more from a creative standpoint anyway.

Damn dude, you've have set the bar so high with this one that the rest of us should just sell our kits and start doing underwater basketweaving or something. This was FLAWLESS and a tough groove to keep up for the whole tune. Tip of the hat sir and a new subscriber indeed.

I heard this song in the radio the other day. I just did a run through yesterday as well. I tried the alternation but got tired so I used a hybrid rudiment. RLLRLL. I leave the left on the hi-hat and right alternates between the hi-hat and snare.

Great job. That’s an amazing cover man. You should learn how to play single handed blast beats. That way you don’t need to play with two hands on the hi hat. You can just use one. If you’re interested in learning how to play blast beats, (which you probably already know), check out Ricardo Merlini
