In a lot of Australian indigenous cultures, your nieces and nephews are equivalent to your direct offspring, and your cousins are equivalent to your siblings, so they very much did the it takes a village thing in the more healthy way in stark contrast to this cult thing.

It really sucks that so many instances of communal child rearing, either in fiction or that make the news, are literal cults. Communal child rearing definitely can be done in healthy ways that allow children to flourish

@@WitchOracle I guess. I suppose that there's a lot of overlap between "guys who think of sex in terms of scoring" and "guys who are confident that everyone agrees that sex during periods is universally unthinkable". I'm definitely overthinking it at this point.

It was like spending summer holidays at my uncle's, down the beach here in southern Brazil. We were 7 kids, aged not to far from each other but as I was part of the elder batch, we were in charge of the younger brats. Looking back, the whole thing was absolute pure joy, honestly, never mind at times things would turn into Stanford experiment. Sadly we came to lose our uncle, firstly to Bolsonaro and then to covid. Still love him dearly, though. His tuna-spaghetti recipe hits hard every time.

Interesting psychology factoid: it is easier to gain compliance from someone when they know something very embarrassing will be revealed about themselves to others when they do not do what they say they will do. That may be where tue sending family members detailed descriptions of sex comes from. It's possibly a compliance tool.

Man, when's the James Cameron episode? That dude keeps brainwashing and almost killing cast and crew alike for his stupid movies, and no one seems to talk about it. He keeps getting talked about like he's a great artist? His entire filmography is fuggin' embarrassing and he's ruined lives for it. It's wild to me. He's part of a whole scene of "auteur directors" that sacrifice others for THE REALISM in movies that are obvious fantasy. Plus he had that whole weird grifty e-cig pump-and-dump situation? What the hell was that?

I mean fair, his best stuff is working with bette rdirectors, and apearently termoinator, through i love is is ripped off a scifi stor, and of course talented cast. Alita, rodrigez The dark angel is really god but that cast is havin a lot early stage good actors and a great writer. And kinda early talking about the after 9/11 panic in a kind of scenatrio with good mutant super soldier concepts well done. But eagle and the actors probably deserve the credit.

13:00 I think the appropriate term for this is subversive... they are reaching out with a sense of concern over their family and the response is meant to almost deride them for their concern with tales of their "exploits". It is extremely weird and unusual but 100% feels like cult behavior.

Maybe I'm missing something because it's my first time listening to these guys, but this podcast is all over the place. This could have been a 1 hour episode, it gets so off topic and the comments are so bland sometimes.
