Great video. Just picked up the Particle V2 but still getting it grips with it. How do you find it compares with the granular/glitch side of the ZOIA? Could most of the sounds and functionality be replicated with the ZOIA? Have you still got both on your board?
Thank you! I think the Particle is the best (and simplest) representation of a pure “granular” pedal. You’re presented with the building blocks with each algo and then allowed to explore deeper by combining modes. It really makes it intuitive and fun, as you know what to expect when you turn each knob (there’s no mystery or macro-control). ZOIA has a very powerful granular module which offers up a similar experience, and thus, the two can be roughly equivalent. If you dive a little deeper, you can get even closer. This is the point I’m at with my Particle patch on ZOIA. I’m close, but it’s not quite there. I do have both on my board still, and it really comes down to the Particle’s simple, yet deep, interface. ZOIA is still my pick for desert island pedal, but the new Red Panda lineup is probably the most perfect you can get in terms of quality sound and ease of use.
Hello, I really enjoy your videos and music. Nice work! Question for you - I'm trying to run my Particle 2 in stereo. I have the TRS to dual mono insert cable, but I'm only getting sound on one side. I'm just going straight into both channels of my interface right now as I'm working with the editor. Have you tried stereo operation? Any advice or thoughts on this? I want to place it in the middle of my stereo chain. Thanks for any help!
Appreciate the kind words, thank you! Ah, I haven't had any issues with TRS stereo out of Particle (TRS to dual mono Y cable). You might want to check the firmware - it may need an update? If that doesn't work, I'd reach out to Red Panda directly. Cheers
Cool video, whilst I can control my Particle 2 from the editor, it doesn't update on the editor if I'm fiddling with the pedal. You seemed to be able to turn knobs and the editor updated it's self. I'm using a PC and have tried win 7 and win 10. Any ideas?
Thank you! Hm, that's strange. It's Chrome only (other browsers don't support the same MIDI config). Also, I'm using a Mac so there may be some weirdness in the beta that doesn't work on Windows.
Pablo Ortega besides the obvious differences (presets, midi, stereo), Particle feels somehow more tweakable? Fabrikat is a great pedal no doubt, but even with 16 algos, it’s really only 5 that do different things. This makes it feels a bit more rigid and “pre-made”. Which is great if you want a simpler granular pedal. Really, presets and MIDI are the biggest reason for wanting a particle. The algos and sounds possible are just icing on the cake.
I have had both particle V1 and V2 for 3+ years and I have just ordered a Fabrikat which is coming tomorrow on the mail. I actually hope to feel the opposite as what you describe, so I guess I'll probably end up disappointed :D presets are a very good thing to have indeed (tap tempo as well!), but for my rig are stereo and midi not that important -I track in mono cause like that I find it much easier to mix-. Even though I love some of the sounds the particle can produce, I somehow don't find it that intuitive.
