Today, M.P. Irek Kusmierczyk, on behalf of the Honorable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, and the Honorable Nina Tangri, Associate Minister of Housing for Ontario and Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor - Tecumseh, announced a combined investment of more than $3.3 million to support the construction of 15 housing units in Windsor.
Located at 1106 Ouellette Avenue, the residential complex will be the result of the conversion of a two-storey building formerly owned by Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. It will include 15 permanent affordable housing units. This project in Windsor represents a unique opportunity for the health care system to participate in the production of affordable housing in communities. It also demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be leveraged to tackle the housing supply crisis.
The Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation purchased the building in 2021 and will oversee the conversion. Renovations are underway and expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
