HI, I hope you have enjoyed your lathe! I know you posted this comment about 3 years ago but I am looking for my first lathe as well! Do you remember how much you paid for yours? I have been looking frequently for Sheldon, Logan, and Atlas/Craftsman lathes. I am able to find good deals on them but they're either too far away, or sell within an hour. Apparently these old machines are highly sought after! Thanks!😃

I stumbled on this video last night as to see more info on a Logan 850 .. I purchased a 850 in working order yesterday, I’m kinda unsure if one still uses this model and if one would need parts for it .. In all honesty I’m a seller and I like buying out machine shops mainly for small items but it had a price at 500.00 and kinda couldn’t say no even tho it’s a pretty heavy machine as one unit ... I’m kinda confused as to sell it for parts or as one unit .. It had many extras so I know it has plenty of value just unsure if the 850 can be used with the 815 or a 200 or any other model within the generation made ... I really enjoy your videos and any info you can give me on what to do with the lathe as a whole and or part it out .. I could make a video of it if needed as to what it looks like and how it sits at the moment ... I’ve managed to get it home and it’s in my truck at the moment .. Thanks Mr Pete

Thanks for the video. I wish the guy I bought the lathe from had made a video like this. I had completely forgotten about the automatic cross feed function until I watched your video. I was cleaning and was thinking "What's that knob for?" I don't use it that much, so I've fallen out of practice.

I just sold my Logan 821. I used it maybe 20 times over the last ten years. I miss it. I'd like to get a benchtop lathe cause i only really used my logan to turn bushings and it was so overkill... Needed the space and the money. When I first got it I totally disassembled clean and lubed it. Paint was in good shape so. Mine had a quickchange gearbox, it was so convenient. Bought for 900 10 years go, sold for 1200 so I made a little money..

Hello Mr. Pete. I have a very similar Logan Lathe which my father bought new in 1941. It needs a lot of care, including replacing the flat belt which I have purchased but not installed. Just looking for a good home for it and a whole bunch of tooling that goes with it, since I no longer have the space. Located in Santa Ana, CA. Let me know if you might know of anyone who might be interested. Thanks, Jack

Cool, Just about the same as my Logan/wards 84TLC-2136 lathe. (made in 1948) mine is the same, manual change gears, and Think they call it plain apron? Do you think the capability of longitudinal feeding only through the half nut is much of a disadvantage? Our shop teacher in high school was always talking about the QCGB, but I really didn't know what he was talking about. Not interested at the time. Aren't I allowed to post a link here?

you make it all so clear. i don't have a lathe as of yet, and when i will have one i'll owe you a great deal. i'm planning on converting the smallest lathe i can find into a glassblowing lathe, the curlpit is the need for both heads to spin the same speed. i will have to buy a used lathe. do you know any small models that might fit this need? i'm also considering building from scratch. it doesn't have to be so accurate as metalworking lathe.

Coming a bit late: you really could make your own, power a shaft under the bed with a vfd motor or a treadmill motor, toothed belt drive to 2 headstocks, build this from a couple of used wood lathes. Dirt cheap.

Tubalcain- I'm going through a M.W. 04TLC-700A which I recently purchased. It appears that the Saddle Carriage Locking Nut? or Saddle Clamp Nut? Is gone. I see parts on ebay bearing both of those names. It appears Logan does not sell this part anymore, and I'm a bit scared of what they would want for one if they did. My question is, they show a machine screw with a hex head. I was expecting a lever. Isn't this what a person would use to lock the carriage when facing off a piece of material. does it require a wrench every time? Also, did the 04TLC-700A have auto crossfeed?

@catman72 If you are dead set on making your own glass lathe look for a lathe for free on craigs list. You'll need to build a new headstock, tailstock and planetary chucks. Most metal lathe headstocks won't go above 1" diameter. About the only usable parts will be the carriage, Ways, and extra gears. You may be better off calling as many schools as you can and ask to talk to the chemist who has been there the longest and see if they have one in storage.
