The reason i love Serie is bc how cap she is LMAO First of all, i love Serie's pettiness🤣. But anyway. Serie is a big tsundere. Let's analyze this calmly: *she said she trained Flamme on whim, but still went on a walk with Frieren just remembering Flamme *she said she wouldn't carry Flamme's will, but she LITERALLY created the magic association *she says it was a waste of time repressing her mana, but she still do it anyway *she said she doesn't like to take human students, but she still remembers every single one of them (Flamme, Sense, Lernen) and even how each of them behave *she calls the flower field spell "useless" while in a room full of flowers (cause she obviously liked Flamme)
@@jedidiah710 It probably hurts to admit it, because of how short human lifespans are to her. In a blink of an eye, Flamme, whom she probably raised like her own child, grew up, grew old, and died. We humans deal with something similar with our pets. Cats and dogs live a fraction of our lifespans, but many of us grow to truly love them like they're family. Difference is, it's probably worse for elves loving humans. Cats and dogs have about 1/7th our lifespans. Humans probably have 1/1000th of an elf's lifespan. More than that, humans are just as sentient as elves are. It's not like watching a cat or dog growing up and then dying. It's like watching your child grow up and die within the span of a week. They are every bit as much a person as you are, all with their own hopes and dreams and aspirations, their own lives that they go through, but they only live for as long as a mayfly. It's gotta be incredibly painful. And yet, she continues to train humans. She continues to form bonds and relationships with humans, despite that pain. It's commendable in her own way. And it's a reminder that Frieren will likely experience these feelings too. More than just Himmel, she will have to watch Fern grow up and die. At least with Himmel and Stark, she never raised them. They're her friends, and Himmel possibly her lover, but Frieren has come to see Fern has her own child. But Fern is a child that can never outlive her, like normal children are meant to. It's the sadness of species with incredibly long lifespans.
Yup, you're right. Frieren's full mana = Serie's supressed mana😂 also, one thing: it's not EXACTLY the title that they want (the title too, since it will allowe them to enter places they can't), but it's more about the privilege: Serie will give the first class mages any spell they want.
@weedmo6211 indeed. Serie is so ancient that she is talked about in legends. "There are tales of an ancient mage hailed as the strongest. Those tales are so old now that even demons have forgotten that fear." These legends are in reference to Serie, who is more than likely the single most powerful magic user in the history of the world.
@@dmar3651 The Goddess is the ultimate mage. Serie despite her power, has no talent in Goddess magic and instead focused in fighting curses with her own power.
Now explaining her "disappointment" comments (both to Frieren and to her human students). First people need to understand this: Serie ADORES POTENTIAL. If she sees potential in anyone, she IS GONNA want to see this potential reach their limits. Ok now here we go: 1) Frieren: the reason why Serie really is petty with Frieren is bc she thinks Frieren is a wasted potential. Frieren literally spent CENTURIES supressing her mana walking in the forest, doing....nothing basically, while the humans were evolving. In Serie's mind, magic is to be used in wars, to fight. In Flamme and Frieren's minds, magic can also be used to bring happiness and beauty to the world (the flower field for example). So for Serie, Frieren is like a genius child that is playing with toys, while they could be doing so much more. 2) Her human students. First i need to clarify: Serie loves each of her students. She is just capping when she is harsh. So, the reason Serie keeps calling them a "disappointment" (and part of the reason she didn't want humans to learn magic) is bc it's also a wasted potential. In what sense, you ask? Well, this is related to their lifetime. In Sense's mind (and she is not wrong in this one) humans CAN NEVER reach their true potential, bc they die too soon. But even so she STILL takes human mages as her students. It's like if you want a 95 years old person to become the greatest professional in their area, for example....you simply have no expectations this person will even reach great achievements. That's why she only takes TRUE talented people as her students. And i do think most people overlooked this: dude, Serie just said Lernen could possibly win against Frieren, like.....that's what i meant when i said she takes really talented people to teach. Also, for people complaining why she failed so many people: if she had passed all of them, she'd basically sending them to their death. They would be allowed in places only first-class mages could reach, and then, if they didn't have enough skills, they could die. So in the end she's doing what she thinks it's right.
This comment needs more likes! Alright, I want to go into details about the mages Serie failed up to now. Many people are annoyed by the way Serie failed so many mages despite they passed the Sense's "peaceful" second test, and relying on intuition alone is not correct, but just take a look of who she failed: Kanna: although her magic is water manipulation and she cannot create water, she showed her strength really well in the first test. But, you have to admit that her magic is SITUATIONAL, like if it hasn't been rained for days outside the barrier, she couldn't defeat Richter that easily. It was showed clearly in the second test, and she and Dunste were barely holding on against Richter's replica until Frieren defeated the Spiegel. Dunste: not much can be said about him. It was difficult to even remember his name because all he showed during the test was being on the same team with Edel and was the only member of the team to escape from Sense's replica attacks. If Blei wasn't buying him time, he couldn't make it through the second test either. Laufen: rely too much on her spell, Jilwer. I won't say it is a bad thing, everyone has their own aces, but other than that spell, her other spells is really lackluster. Denken pointed out that she was inexperienced. Scharf: his magic are very interesting, and can be used effectively for both offense and defense. However, as Land pointed out, his basic was lacking, and he is not very good at detecting mana. Ehre: "you're the most powerful mage amongst the fourth and eighth parties", yeah, Fern said that herself. However, she ran out of mana and couldn't withstand Fern attacks. Wirbel asked her why she attacked Fern like an idiot and it was a battle that she could have won. And please, for the love of god, take that comment with a grain of salt, because I'm too tired of arguing with anyone saying "that's cap" whenever a character said he or she or someone else can defeat Frieren or Fern. Frieren was defeated 11 times, so let's leave it at that. Back on the topic, she performed pretty well in the team of three with Wirbel and Scharf, but if you looked into minor details, she and Scharf was most likely out of mana, while Wirbel seemed like he could continue fighting. There we go, all the mages Serie failed up to now either have obvious flaws or not performing well despite their potentials during the test. And the rest of the mages that passed the second test are: Ubel, Denken, Methode, Land. All of them have shown their battle prowess and experiences during the previous test, and their performances are much better than the first group, so Serie probably pass them.
@@KhoaNguyen-bt6kp Of the ones failed so far, none of them really have the ability to be First Class. Ehre is probably closest, but she doesn't have the right temperament. She needs to mature and harden up a bit. She certainly has potential, being Lernen's granddaughter, but she's just not there yet. Of the rest, Scharf is probably the only one who could eventually become First Class, but he's going to need to refine his ability a bit first. In the manga he carries around a bouquet of flowers so he can use his ability. The anime has given him what appears to be a lesser version of Flamme's flower magic. If he can scale that up, he'll probably be able to do it eventually. The rest of them just don't have the temperament for it. First Class Mage is not a kind job. TBH, Fern doesn't really have the right temperament either, but she's got so much potential that Serie can't help but pass her.
Y’all keep in mind we didn’t see every person get tested yet. There’s about 3 more people from the 2nd exam that have yet to talk to Serie, the blue hair military guy, the old dude, and the one that one that was able to defeat Fern’s clone.
Yeah Serie is probably the most powerful thing walking around on this planet and she's a fucking tsundere ass elf. Also the demon king was indirectly killed because of a spell to summon some flowers. Flamme teaches frieren, frieren uses it to comfort baby Himmel, baby himmel loves magic now and says he wants to wake up next to the pretty flower-making elf for the rest of his life so he's gotta impress her.
It's crazy how this show makes me like every single character. Even with someone like Richter, who I didn't care for much, they are able to flesh out his character in a short amount of time and make me relate with him.
I lowkey get what serie was saying. Frieren is basically raising an entire class GPA more than what the class overall is actually capable of. Also yes apparently Serie's suppressed mana is equal to frieren full power mana. Serie is probably older than frieren especially considering frieren is apparently considered "young" for elves at least according to that other elf and age is correlated to mana supply in this universe.
It's more like curving your grades when some dude gets a zero or a girl who just turn there exam papers in, even before a 1 full minute. God bless those kind, becoz of them i passed my 2nd year by a 1 percent below the passing grade
The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is if she is a young elve why are there not more renowned or powerful elves. If they existed, I wonder who killed them. Anyways, I enjoy the show.
@@chok1169 Well we saw with that other elf that he kinda got forgotten after a while despite being very powerful at one point. You also have to consider whether or not an elf actually wants to learn magic and follow that route. Seris literally studied for what's implied to be thousands of years while frieren was also mostly unknown until she defeated the demon king with the hero party. That's probably why there aren't many renowned elves though I wouldn't be shocked if there are some really strong ones considering frieren is underleveled for her age
Grandma Serie excited to meet her great granddaughter Fern, only to be disappointed that she turned out a hippie like her granddaughter, Frieren. Also, another comment I took from youtube, specifically from Muse Asia, from the user passbyicecube. I think this is worth reading, so I'm just gonna copypaste it again like last time: "Serie's probably the most complicated character in this series, she kept speaking out straight-forward harsh words, but unintentionally, she's doing exactly opposite of her words. 'Suppressing your mana is a waste of time.' Doing exactly that and far more suppressing skill than Frieren. 'Flower field magic is absolutely ridiculous.' Having a massive greenhouse with flowers, admires them. 'Really shouldn't take on human apprentices.' Get excited to recruit Fern when she realizes Fern is the talent she had been seeking. ...And finally. 'Flamme dare to ask me to guide human magic?' Create the first class magician, teaches any talented mage one magic they desire, adore mages with talent. The most heartbreaking thing about Serie is, she's probably really, really lonely and seeks people who able to understand her while keeping up to her pace. Frieren is one of them but their idea goes separate ways that it's nearly impossible for these two to ever get along. Which exactly is why I believe Serie misses Flamme, even after centuries. She don't need to suppress her mana, but she did it anyway. She pick mages in a greenhouse full of flowers, instinctly caress them as she was getting excited for getting a talented apprentice."
As far as Frieren forming a new group goes, I think she is the Himmel of the new group. Fern is the mage with an actual title, and Stark is the warrior.
Series insight has to be on another level, she can tell what they feel and think without doing anything. And frieren said, she is always right if it comes down to that
Take note. All the members of the hero party is equally strong in their own speciality. Thats why they managed to defeat the demon king. Great reaction ❤ You guys actually catch every detail even if you guys laugh since one is explaining to the other in case someone missed a small detail.
I think what Serie is looking for are those who either have innate talent or the motivation/drive to continue to improve in magic. She failed Frieren even though she is strong because she has neither. Frieren is strong due to time and experience but she doesn't really have innate talent like Fern does and Frieren also doesn't have a motivational drive to become stronger (just to collect different types of spells).
Idk if someone already said this but as for the reason they need a first class mage: remember how they found kraft in a cabin in a much warmer (comparatively, cuz it will get colder as they go farther north) part of the northern continent, at the start of a multi month winter, and bro was just doing squats to stay warm cuz he couldn't start a fire? And that was a legendary elf, far older than frieren, who was gonna die in a snow storm. Bro's saved the world but was gonna die to low temps. You're not braving the north without a mage for utility, and only a first class one will survive being the first one attacked in every fight.
I believe Serie failed Friernen is because Frieren really didn't pass the standard as an elf. If we think about the old man just use probably 70 years can already to the height that can have some chance to defeat Frieren. than it make more sense as Frieren yeah she's stronger than most first class but man she lived like thousand year, using human standard to rate her and pass her also not making any sense😂
They said in an earlier episode that the reason they need a first class mage up north is because there is a lot of magic and mind focused monsters like the einsam (the monster that made illusions of dead people you love). so basically you need a very good mage that knows how to handle the magic based monsters and can counter with mana.
30:05 Some Comicbook Nerd: Superman reversed time in the 1978 "Superman" movie, w/ the exact same method you mentioned Flash doing it. Lois died so he flew around the Earth, reversing the rotation of it. *pushes up glasses*
Great reaction! Don't mind Serie & Richter. They're just tsunderes. That old martial arts master & Stark joke is still hilarious 😂! Even Fern's little pouty hits on Stark are funny & cute. You & Taylor did a good job understanding the characters/plot of this episode, especially Taylor, for remembering that they need at least one first class mage to travel further. Serie may be following Flamme's will to continue humanity's magic, but that won't stop her from making certifications exclusive to the best ones. Serie questioned how Frieren was capable of defeating the demon king while being so unskilled, but remember Flamme told Serie that Frieren would defeat him because she could imagine a peaceful era. Frieren also told Serie that her student Fern would pass because this is the human mage era! I love how this story is always "full circle" no matter how much time has passed. I'm not ready for the final episode next week😢! We're losing Frieren & MaoMao 😭!
I've seen someone else describe Serie like this: Imagine if you travelled to an alternate dimension, where you met a young Michael Jordan. You know he could be just as amazing as the Michael Jordan in our world, but instead of play basketball, he just wants to garden hahaha
It doesn't really matter, Serie knows Frieren is superior to most First mages, she is just I guess annoyed Frieren is not following the way she wants mages to be. Frieren is proud and happy for her experiences with the people she have met.
Serie and Frieren are like Goku and Gohan. Goku all about that smoke, always lookin for that fight and to get stronger. Gohan just wanted to chill, he wasn't a fighter but that aint mean he ain't built for it. That's why Serie get all petty with Frieren, Frieren is INCREDIBLY gifted in potential, but girl did her job. Demon King is dead? Aight well time to go learn about spells to clean out stains from shirts and shit. Also the line about Lernen or w/e his name is about being able to box w/Frieren I took as Serie basically sayin that had he not been so timid himself his entire life, bro could have been one of the few mages strong enough to throw down with Frieren all within a human life span. But magic is all about visualization. He can't see himself beating Frieren, so in a real fight he would never win.
19:25 "Out of the 12 pumps only 4 of them actually work." That's sounds like a government operation to me. And what's scary is that the Armed Forces are probably the BEST of anything the government runs.
Serie is even more repressed than Frieren, she doesn't even realize how deeply she cares about her students. She's disappointed cuz she expects more from them. She's mad cuz their lives are so short. She considers mana supressing a waste of time, but master it, she considers Flamme's favorite spell useless while standing in a carefully tended Garden of hers, she was upset Flamme asked her to lead Humanity to magic, but look who's the headmaster of the Continental magic association. She remembers everything about Flamme, or her other students, and keeps telling herself she tends to them on a whim. But she's not a peaceful mage, and cannot fix that rift in ideology between herself and humanity, and she will probably never manage to, she's a good foil to Frieren.
I feel like they’ve been hinting at Stark potentially also being like Himmel, there was the whole lingering moment with him and the heroes sword. And he got trained in a sword technique while pretending to be that guys son. I think Stark will be the Himmel and Eisen of the group.
Serie had to do that what she did for the safety of the mages. With Friren it was multilayered. She had already mentioned how Frieren was basically mid for her age. And the other mages mentioned how it would be pointless to suppress your mana that good when you could spend your time getting better at magic. Then go back a couple episodes when Frieren has her flaw exploited. Yes it's not much of an exploit for most people, but first class mages that are up there in age would likely be able to. Fern is gonna MID DIF Frieren by the time she is 30-40 at her current rate.
Jade vs Sherm: Because Sherm has chosen to plead the fizith😂 & not provide any defense for his anime age discrimination practices, a default judgment will be awarded to Jade! Sherm is guilty for having Call of the Night on the channel but not the Case Study of Vanitas, not updating Zom 100, not watching the Masterful Cat is depressed again offline (3 episodes), & continuing anime ageism with Kaguya-sama, Horimiya, 100 Girlfriends, & more! A detailed judgment & restitution plan will be provided next week!
I am gonna miss Frieren Fridays..... Frieren is right next to Mushoku Tensei for my favorite anime of all time. I love Himmel a lot. Himmel is such a magnificent character. A real role model.
