On May 9th, a Frontier passenger seated in the exit row reportedly declined to assist with the operation of the exit in the event of an emergency. In this video, I give a flight attendant’s perspective on what splotchy details are available and offer some pretty solid advice.

The fact that this passenger was in the process of being relocated and STILL had to make a snarky “Betty White” comment is, IMHO, reason to be removed. What a dope.

@@user-zn5qg4se6q I understand but some passengers wouldn’t. People seated in the exit row of an airline in America must be able to understand and re-communicate those instructions in English to the passengers in an evacuation. Every darn thing we do is for a serious reason and there are some passengers that just don’t get that and they think they have the « right » to disregard crew instructions. It’s crazy when you think about it. They are about to be hurled at 300 miles an hour to more than FIVE MILES ABOVE THE EARTH (!!) in an aluminum can but feel that they can argue with us about safety. She went ballistic and started screaming that she was NOT going to take her child out of the seatbelt. She got so ugly and hysterical that I just told her like it is. « In an impact situation, your body will move forward at perhaps hundreds of miles per hour and the seatbelt will CUT YOUR BABY IN HALF! ». Rule of thumb. Most of the people you will have to deal with are simply following the rules of the company for which they work. If you feel your complaint is legitimate, take up with those who have the ability to say "yes" as well as "no". When you are on any means of public transportation, their are guidelines and rules that are meant to protect passengers. Thinking you can treat them as a joke makes you look like an ass, so do as you are asked.

Great overview. People have no idea how much power the flight crew has. Your attitude means EVERYTHING onboard. If you have a problem with a crew member on a flight, address that once you REACH YOUR DESTINATION ON THE FLIGHT YOU BOOKED - not before you depart. You can make that crew member's life a living hell after the flight is over . . . this is all just basic common sense.

You always have to be super nice and have to have an exaggerated smile on your face. I'm a frequent flyer by necessity and am always happy when I can leave the confines of a plane behind me, not to mention I would ever describe such a constricted environment as a glamorous place to work.

Yes! There are so many ways in life to save money. Do passengers realize that it is foolish to try to save money on their cheap pilot, crew, and aircraft? You want the very best because your safety matters! You can save money somewhere else. Plus, buying a cheap fare usually includes a long list of add-on charges so they are paying the same as if they had purchased a ticket on a more reputable airline. Air travel was never meant to be cheap. There are too many lives at stake. Next time someone is thinking about purchasing a low fare on a low-cost airline, ask yourself why that pilot would settle for earning less than they could at a major airline. The answer is because they didn’t hire him. Same with the flight attendants. On my first day of training with a major airline, they told us that they had to interview 18,000 applicants to make up a class of 70. And even then, only 42 of us graduated and got our wings. So 42 out of 18,000. That tells you how selective the major airlines are. Plus we are paid a whole lot more than a smaller airline would pay. So why would I work for a smaller airline if I could have a better career with a major? Only if I wasn’t hired by the major. Just saying.

Not that i agree with that womab, vut the reason she didn't want to give up her seat was that the exit row seats are the best seats in economy class. Rgey have the mist legroom and for a lot of people they are highly desired seats, especially on an airline like Frontier. She knew that she would have probably ended up with a cramped middle seat. While she was unwilling to verbally commit to assisting in an emergency, switching seats would be worse . So she tried to finesse as though she agreed to assist, she never fave a verbal yes from the beginning. Had she dine so, this incident never happens. Add to rhe fact tgat she allegedly said she would only save herself in an emergency, and now she has put the FA in a position to move her to a different seat In the end, she didnt get to pick up her grandson. If that was really her priority, she should've either agreed verbally when first asked or moved to a different seat when first asked. Flight leaves relatively quick, abd she's not late picking up her grandson. Her selfishness caused her to miss picking him up and caused problems for everyone else on the flight

I was traveling by Lufthansa and got special meal as requested however without water. This means I finished my meal before others and I badly needed water for medication. Since the buzzer was not answered I walked to the attendant and before I opened my mouth she curtly asked me to go back. I was upset but did the logical thing of asking to speak with supervisor after everyone was served. We were respectful to each other and the supervisor accepted that my grievance had merit and that steps will be taken to avoid such incidents in future. The end result: though I couldn’t take my medication in time, the blood sugar level spiked but I am still able to fly on Lufthansa flights. Bottomline is: No training can prepare crews for all the possible situation and so behave like an adult and understand that you are not the only passanger and hence “ Priority” because you have some problem

@@hothotheat3000 that is exactly my point. If I pay extra for that seat they can't really ask me to move to a different seat with less legroom unless they reimburse me.

you’d have to reach out to the company to ask

@@EastonExplores you're missing my point the point is I would be damned if they tried to make me move out of a seat that I paid extra for without reimbursing me on the spot. I would need some sort of written assurance that I was going to be reimbursed and if I have paid for it they cannot legally make me move

Oh i get where you’re coming from. My knowledge base is with the Federal Regulations. and regardless of monetary transaction, you cannot sit in the exit row if you have any condition (hidden or visible) that prevents you from performing the tasks required or you decline to perform the tasks required. as far as reimbursement, that’d be taken up with the airline. Although I’m pretty sure that when booking a ticket online you have to agree to terms and conditions before purchasing the exit row seat. I’d check there for your answer

I doubt the troublemaker would earn enough money in a year to cover what it cost the airline to remove them. If they can still fly with Frontier, I'd be very surprised

Just because the pilot knows how to use a steering wheel to turn an airplane doesn't mean he automatically knows how to deal with people though.
@Andygarrett357
@Andygarrett357 Месяц назад
Wrong, people, like this entitled angry woman, don't know how to deal with the pilot (captain). The captain is basically "the law" on airplanes, ships and probably a couple of other forms of transportation. And airplanes don't have "steering wheels", educate yourself.

“how to use a steering wheel” is a wild way to talk about the pilot profession.

Captain doesn't need to know how to deal with the public. The captain TELLS everyone what to do on the plane and you either obey or end up booted and blacklisted, and quite rightly so!!
