6 Ex British Army Soldiers escort to the colour. The first time in the History of the Metropolitan Police Service that the escort to the Service Colours were all ex servicemen. A moment in history indeed.
If those standards were maintained today I think it's safe to say we wouldn't have the chaos we see in the modern police force. Society changes and the force has to mirror that not replicate it.
I think you have a point, when we start the road of reform we have to be careful not to lose key values. Good discipline is key. Perhaps if we took more care in vetting as we did in those days we wouldn't be facing the mess the Mets in now....who knows
The Metropolitan Police Training School was closed in 2007. The Met has gone to ratshit since then, although closing the MPTS wasn't the only reason. Is there any other modern police force in the world that doesn't have a training school?
Colindale police college? Sadly all flats now.... As a kid I remember the assault course you could see when on the tube and always wanted a go... Weird to see flats where the running track and sports pitches once were
Sadly things change not always for the better. I think they are now finding that training police officers in a dedicated college is still the best way. It's too late now. That site was an old RAF base and given to the Met when their commissioner was Trenchard (ex RAF). It's commercial value was clearly too great to ignore.
Donnelly...and early turn parades if you were naff at marching...he wasn't shy at telling you what he thought lol happy days 😂i remember him telling someone "if you had a brain you'd be dangerous "
I think they still practice drill as they have passing out parades. Perhaps not as sophisticated at back in the 80s but still something recruits can be proud of and to invite their relatives and friends too
@@seabreezerider1309I was in the colour party in 1994, the parade was exactly the same as this. I had a massive hangover from the night before so my drill had gone to bits. But I was just happy to leave Hendon, and after that for the next 27 years the ability to march and have shiny shoes counted for nothing.
That’s how l remember the police, smartly turned out, disciplined and proud, what went wrong ? Today they are a pile of crap , scruffy , undisciplined and detested by the public, l wish those days would come back, we need discipline, we need order
This is a moment in time. Those uniforms were smart. We're they fit for service on the streets? I would say not. You need a comfortable, practical, washable uniform. This wasn't. Great for ceremonial duties. However choosing the right uniform for police officers which is smart yet practical has never been the Mets forte. Those in charge of uniforms seem not to be able to either design or ask Those who design to create one that does both.
Hello John, Valerie from Sky News here. I was wondering if I could please use this footage with a credit for a news piece I am working on? Best wishes, Valerie
I'm afraid not this was posted as a celebration of the Metropolitan Police. Many in the footage are friends. I do not want their image used on a news feature or documentary about alleged police corruption. I think there are other clips you can use for any report. Sorry.
