Was there from 81 thru 84. Going to Italy next month. Will visit Aviano for two days. No expectations as I realize that time changes infrastructure, but the mountains are still there and the people are same. I lived in Marsure on via Scussat. Maybe my landlady is still there. Thanks for the video.
I was there so long ago (1977-1980) and nothing looks the same! I could just cry. I know it's the same people, same area, and the mountains are still majestic...but nothing else looks familiar. I could just cry.
I was there 1975-1977. Worked in the 2-6 bed 'hospital.' Was very rustic then. It has changed so much...all I really recognize are the Dolomites. No base housing; we had 1 of 5 apartments @ 41 Via Sacile...I found it on g.earth! We used to picnic/party about 1/3 way up the mountain at a WW II bombed out farm/barn-Great big holes in the walls (and roof) that provided a gorgeous view towards Aviano and Lignano (but too distant to see the Adriadic). Went back and visited w/family in '89; changed somewhat, but still recognizable. We'd like to visit one more time!
@@tkfry 1976 was the year of the great earthquake. I wasn't there since I was born in 1984. But my father and grandfather told me what happened. The whole Friuli was raised to the ground.
@@danielefabbro822 - Are you by chance related to Sergio Fabbro? He owned a butcher shop in the center of town, and he had a few rental apartments as well. His wifes name was Sandra, and daughters were Laura, Paola, and Luccia. He had a son as well but I can't recall his name.
@@DanielReyes-zu8em It's possible. I mean just here in Friuli, in my same province, there are other 5 Daniele Fabbro. Fabbro clan is widely spread here in Friuli. We came here in 1400, to repopulate the region after the plague. My family came here from Genua.
As you get to the center of town things start to look more Italian. To their credit the Italians know how to define the edges of their streets. The mountains are pretty dramatic.
Thank you so much for sharing, its nice to go on and see videos of the past to trigger some of our memories. Now if I could just find a video of Da Vecchios pizzeria that would be awesome. Ah the scorpino and pizza tona a chipploa.
