Respect achieved on this pedal. It sounds just like my old original did.

Thanks for doing a great demo. The Elastic Mattress sounds great. And Australian made pedals ^^

thats not the only reissue electro harmonix makes, they made the deluxe mistress thats green and in a small enclosure like that one and it sounds spot on to the original if you mess with the trim pots inside (a mix pot isn't screwed all the way up on a lot of them)

Damn that sounds so beautiful my old boss me5 used to be able to achieve a very close flanger sound as that flanger it was weird it had four flanger modes but the first mode seemed to do nothing and the second not much either but the third sounded very close to this flanger and the fourth mode was more of a boss bf2 flanger with alot more resonance at full

Great sounding pedal, very much liking the chorus mode as well. The inbuilt adjustability goes a long way to solving any tone sucking/volume variations that some pedal attract criticism for.
@KYCDK
@KYCDK Год назад
the chorus sounds like a better chorus than most chorus pedals, which is why i prefer flanger over chorus, it's just a better, more interesting chorus pedal. you can turn the feedback (colour in this case) knob all the way down for chorus, or to make that chorus more interesting, turn it up to taste to add more metallic flanger sound

Did you prefer the Elastic Mattress or the Reticon Flanger?
@JasonAyalaSpare
@JasonAyalaSpare 2 года назад
They're similar, because they are both based on the EM. The Mattress has the treble and volume controls on the inside, while the reticon has them on the outside. I could live with one or the other.

Jason- I have a reticon flanger by Verlie and it sounds a lot more detuned than this elastic mattress- which I've yet to try hands on. My question is did you find the reticon to be more detuned? If I attempt the "chorus effects" like early on in this video, the pitch is quite a bit "warblier" and hard to use at full blend. Cheers- -Michael

Hi Michael, I found that when I wanted that classic sweeping flanger I would turn the colour up and the range down. To my ear the range controls how much your guitar is detuned/vibrato. If you think it's too much, I'd try turning it down.

@@JasonAyalaSpare I've found that even at minimum range setting, once the rate control gets above 9 o'clock or so it gets very detuned and hard to use even at a mostly dry signal blend. I adjusted the delay time inside the pedal just slightly but it was so delicate I was afraid of breaking it. I'm hopeful I can reduce the delay time a bit internally so it's not as detuned and a little "tighter" pitch wise. If that seems off base design wise or settings wise I am happy to be corrected- The elastic I finally have and it not only nails the mistress EQ thing but it has a much more reasonable pitch detune range. Reticon still sounds amazing but was curious if you found the bfx reticon flanger to be a bit too extreme at the medium slowish rates. Cheers-

@@michaelfowler3187 I too prefer the EM, for me it's my favourite Flanger I've ever tried. I bought a PFX reticon which I expected to be pretty similar, but it's a bit more pronounced. It's really up to you and the sound you're after.

@@JasonAyalaSpare I appreciate the response - I have tried the reticon on bass a few times and for whatever reason that 'too much-ness' that occurs with some settings on guitar is completely welcomed on the bass. The sound is rather different but both sound like flangers, no doubt - I think the Blend and Level control on the reticon are significant, for one, because the Blend I think goes full dry on the reticon where the EM still has a lot of wet signal mixed in, and the level control of the reticon can fuzz out pedals after it, which is just awesome - most pedals don't quite allow that much extra level. Thanks again -

I personally like a subtle slow flanger, Id have the rate down fairly slow and turn the range down a bit. get a very subtle sweep but keep the colour not subtle to have a nice metallic sound

This is a spectacularly good pedal with some fantastic options, but wayy too overcomplicated for me (and too expensive -- not to mention the 18 volt requirement!) for an effect that I would use rarely at best. I believe that the 1980s stole the flanger guitar sound with Andy Summers, John McGeough (Siouxsie & the Banshees), The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen and the Cult ('She Sells Sanctuary') and never gave it back. Your little nod to Mondo Rock's 'Come Said the Boy (...but not too quickly, said the girl..)' was a bit of a treat though. I love flanger on guitar but find it one of the hardest to incorporate into my own original music. I've used flanger plug-ins after-the-fact in sections of a whole track (a la 'The Real Thing' by Russell Morris, or 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' by Lenny Kravitz) on a couple of my own recordings, 'cos I love that whole enveloping aeroplane going over your head underwater sound -- but on just guitar? I always feel like I"m trying to sound like somebody else. Great video anyway.

I have the newer Elastic Mattress and is WAY too bright. I have the brightness turned all the way down and it's still too bright. I can't imagine why anyone would mess with the bass cut on the inside.

If you're looking for the Electric Mistress flanger sound, the get the Retro-sonic Flanger. I have the Retro-sonic and the V3 Elastic Mattress and the Retro-sonic is much better sounding. Side by side, the Elastic Mattress is thin, overly bright and brittle
