Nice review, as always, Adam. It's worth noting that the Preview Version is the cut that Peckinpah chose to make. The theatrical cut was pretty much panned. Finally, re: the Preview Version, per wiki: "This version led to a rediscovery and reevaluation of the film, with many critics praising it as a lost masterpiece and proof of Peckinpah's vision as a filmmaker at this time. " It's unfortunate that this version seemingly didn't get a 4k treatment as well.

@JohnGaltfromAtlas It is not a masterpiece. Ridiculous claim, in my opinion. Peckinpah was great, but this film is a dud.

Thanks Adam. I am so glad for this review. I’ve been waiting for this movie for so long. I’m glad you bought up the Passion and Poetry extra. Those features by Mike Siegel are on Sam’s non Warner Brother’s movies and are always nice to watch and give nice insight on the film.

mine arriving any day now. Looks like nice restoration keeping the natural film look intact. No wax and scrub for a squeeaky clean Billy Kid, that just wouldn't be right. Westerns are about mood, atmosphere and i think this one has it good share of violence.... old fashion way.

Please review Twister at the earliest, while everyone is going gaga about Atmos sound, how exactly is picture quality? From what I have seen, it looks like upscaled to me.

Ugh I’m so pissed, I ordered the Blu Ray edition instead of the 4K version, why do these companies do both? I had to sell it.

@@lizardman7364the damn covers look the same, I thought it was the 4K edition, same thing with Risky Business and American Gigolo. Luckily I caught it for Risky Business and canceled, ordered from B&N during the Criterion sale.

Thanks Adam. It's a bad movie, everything monotonously unfolds, rather than develops. The movie also repeats itself. We don't know enough about their feelings of each other. Sure, it has Peckinpah flare, but this time, his story is empty and ineffectual.

@brunomachado7279 The Wild Bunch very badly needs a 4K restoration and UHD. The bluray is way worse than everyone seems to remember. And it goes without saying that it is a great, great film and one of cinema's titans.

It’s a very different kind of Western. It’s not Unforgiven or The Searchers or even Peckinpah’s own The Wild Bunch. Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is a “mood piece” (very moody, in fact), a movie that doesn’t care about plot intricacies. It takes its sweet ass time but if you can eventually get into its groove and read between the lines of James Coburn’s and Kris Kristofferson’s dialogue and expressions, it’s really compelling stuff. James Coburn’s acting is hall of fame stuff that only gets better with every viewing. Viewers should go into it with different expectations and they might be pleasantly surprised. It’s a totally unique Western, one of my faves.
