Well said Pat. Remember several years ago, everyone was calling for Mason Crosby to be fired in Green Bay because he had a stretch where he missed a bunch of kicks & cost the Packers games? He's been solid since and I don't think anyone would argue that keeping him wasn't the right call... *edit - Never mind! That'll teach me to comment before the video is over.*
There was a few games several years ago where Crosby was missing kicks, and there was a bad game 2 seasons ago. Crosby had a terrible game against Detroit where he missed 4 field goals and an extra point, but he's been amazing since then. And he absolutely deserved his 3 year extension this past off season.
What hurts even more is that is the best game we have played by far. Just missed kicks and 2 really bad PI. The ref didn’t through a flag for PI till Gladney caught it and started to stand up
No dought = lm 61 yds old now = been vikings fan sense 14 = this is a Viks curse = once an a while we get a good One = But we have had Our Over abundance of kickers that fall into this trap = hell I'm use to it now = seems dam near normal 😉
@@paulman9989 my pops is diehard Vikings fan and watched them with him since I was 7 years old, 33 now Vikings are cursed at the kicker position, 15-1 season, Gary Anderson hasn’t missed a kick all season, saves his 1st miss at the worst time to go up 10 and seal the win vs Atlanta in NFC championship game....Vikings end up losing, Blair Walsh wide left to win playoff game vs Seattle, Carlson 5th round pick for vikings....can’t kick or hit anything for them but now is decent for the Raiders, Dan Bailey now, cost them 10pts last week and the game, special teams/kicking game all year has been bad I feel for ya man
Mason Crosby had an off year a few years ago, got out of it, and is one of the most and beloved kicker in packer's history. He snapped out of it and is a solid 15/15 this year.
I remember the training camp after Crosby had his bad year and they brought in some competition for him. The fans had turned on him. I was standing out by the player parking area after the packers had their annual scrimmage where they let all the fans attend, and the backup kicker was signing autographs for everyone. Just being a nice guy. Then when he had to leave, he hopped into the passenger side of a black SUV. As he was hopping in though, one of the fans shouted loudly at him. “Hey we hope you get the job!” Mason Crosby was the driver of that SUV.
Im pretty sure its Koo lmaoo But yes Koo was a kicker for the Chargers in 2017 got cut was out the league all of 2018 last 2 years he has been on the falcons. And has only missed 1 kick this year out of his 34 attempts
yeah but he only missed one game and hes still the best kicker in the nfl. I knew he was amazing from the last few games of the falcons season last year when he replaced matt bryant or whatever that old dudes name was, instantly drafted him, he won games for me in fantasy with them 15, 20 point games lmao
As a Bucs fan and with our recent struggles at kicker, I've felt those feels before. You guys need to get over the thing about refs though, they hosed us several times too.
@@Spikeex 1. Hasn't been dominant long enough. 2. Career field goal percentage & extra point percentage are too low. 3. Brees argument: he plays in a dome.
I’ll never forget my senior year of high school where we lost 14-13 against the eventual state champions in the playoffs because our kicker missed the game tying extra point, the crushing feeling of driving 87 yards just to go through that will never be forgotten
@@Dylan-jc6id I think the issue is their practice facilities are soo bad that its something they can point to...Not just having a horrid ownership group and are god awful
@@JM-wf2to yo my bad, for some reason my brain processed that as "indoor stadium" and wasn't thinking about practice facilities. Thank you for clarifying 👍
Cairo santos had a game where I think he missed four kicks. Now he’s balling out for the bears and has only missed a 50+ yard field goal and had a PAT blocked
I’m also a Dan Bailey fan. Watched him ever week when he played for the Cowboys. The same thing happened to him a few years ago. At the time he had a 100% extra point percentage and then he missed his first one and it fucked him up for the rest of the season. Don’t worry though cause he will get himself out of it! Just keep faith in him!
Thank you for this video, Pat and the boys. I’m a high school kicker and you just helped me realize that I’m suffering from imposter syndrome. I know you weren’t trying to help me and probably didn’t think you would help someone with this video but you just accidentally helped me discover what my problem is and I am thankful
Tyler Bass (rookie for the Bills) had a rough first game when he missed 2 of his 4 FGs, but man he's been money ever since, going 23/27 and a few of those misses were well over 50 yards.
He is mr guaranteed and if we had him on our team earlier the hauska cundiff and stover we'd have a couple more superbowls!! Considering if the nfl would script it to happen that way!!
Crosby was getting crushed awhile back with a massive funk and is now in a great headspace, killing it out there this year. So it totally tough in NFL where it’s where are you today but we need to let Bailey battle it out.
I can still remember that lions game a few years ago didn’t he miss like 5 field goals that game, it sucked but man he has some great kicks since, just yesterday he nailed one for 58 yards.
@@waynesonneman7343 wasn’t much of a McCarthy fan in GB, but that game he pulled a genius move with Crosby. While time was expiring at the end of the 4th, McCarthy sent Crosby out there at the last second to kick a field goal. Gave him no time to think and Crosby went out there and nailed it.
Can you imagine the the Vikings would've most likely won if the refs didn't call that stupid hail mary call and Dan Bailey actually made all his fg attempts. God, it hurts.
I believe all of football fandom needs to see this video. Im a Vikings fan, but Im not super upset about this because Bailey isnt a robot that is perfect 100% of the time (but has been very good since getting to Minnesota) and fans just dont realize that... Great content
Lutz is also freaking amazing, but he currently has the Yips. Ever since he slipped on a kick and missed, he hasn't been the same. Missed 2 FGs sunday and that would've been enough for the saints to win.
Eagles signed Jake Elliot to a top 3 kicker contract after 2017 and he’s been on a downhill slide ever since, I think he has 2 misses of 25 yard field goals this year lol
Yips are a very real thing. Dan Bailey used to be PHENOMENAL when he was in Dallas, and was the coolest running machine on the field. Never missed & seemingly nothing was too far of a kick. Then one day the cracks seemed to show. Most people don’t come back from that. Once in a while one guy will, and those are the guys we think of as we do Vini.
Mason Crosby was broke one yr...and we stuck with him and has been amazing overall since. He was amazing before the "break" and then was broke 1 yr....and since he has been amazing for us. Just hit a 57 yarder against the lions .
A lot of people were trying to throw Chris Boswell (Steelers) under the bus a couple of years ago. I said that "one does not go from all pro to being terrible in just 1 season." Boswell returned the following year and was nearly perfect, as he has been again this year. I wrote this before Boswell was mentioned.
Remember when Bailey was "the most accurate kicker in NFL history" back with the Cowboys? Dude was bulletproof, a sure bet! Then he got injured and just wasn't quite the same kicker after that. Mind you, he's had some solid seasons with the Vikings, but just hasn't been the same kind of consistent.
“Some solid seasons with the Vikings.” Ok no. He came to Minnesota in 2018, didn’t play a full season and made only 75% of his FG’s. Solid season last year, which only constitutes *one* good season, and one bad one. And now an abysmal one.
Jason Myers had a bad year in Jacksonville, then had a Pro-bowl season with the jets, and has made all of his last 28 field goal attempts with the Seahawks.
When Crosby had a broken stretch in 2018, I thought he was a goner. Glad the team was patient with him. He’s been very valuable. Last Sunday was further reassurance.
Rodrigo Blankenship is kicking great for the Colts Pat!! That dude has been putting everything right down the gut!!!!! He just set the Rookie scoring record for a season for the Colts against the Vegas Raiders!!
Mason Crosby is prime example of why you should pay kickers. I remember after that one in game in Detroit back in 2018 where he missed like 4 Field goals and everyone wanted him gone. Between 2019 and so far in 2020 he's made 37 out of his last 39 FGA.
I’m a newer football fan but Rams losing Zuerlein this year seriously opened my eyes to the value of elite kickers. Our most recent guy seems to be settling in but I missed Greg a lot earlier this year.
The kicker that I say got hit the hardest by the mental game: Roberto Aguayo. The kid was MONEY for us in college, missed like twice ever, was the most accurate kicker ever until the new GOAT kicker, then got to the Bucs and just lost it. Fee so bad for him man he was so freaking good.
Packers fan here! Any receiver knows that the last hurdle after 10 men is the kicker typically followed by a touchdown. But not a few days ago, not with Mason Crosby, no sir. Lions' Jamal Agnew has to pay up for getting tackled by Packers kicker Mason Crosby on that return.
I have been kicking for about two years now and that’s all in college. It is really a lot harder than people think. It doesn’t get talked about enough.
Cairo Santos is a great example of a player getting the yips and getting out of his head on his own. Doing great for the Bears this year and I’m a Packers fan.
crosby doesn’t get enough credit. nailed a 58-yard field goal yesterday to help ice the game. i don’t wanna say he’s getting older, but he definitely is. so it’s awesome to see that he can still boot it
Feel like giants have gotten so lucky in carousel lately. It always ends poorly, especially off the field. but josh brown and rosas were dominant for short stints then messed up, and now they have Gano. Wonder if it’s a good kicking coach
Gotta remember though, whenever you have to rely on a kicker to win, you have to look back at the rest of the game and take note of every mistake made that got them there. QB threw a pick? WR dropped a pass? A failed 3rd down conversion? Defense unable to do anything? Bad play calls? It all adds up. The kicker is just a part of the whole overall pie.
"Au contraire mon frère" would directly translate to "To the opposite my brother" but essentially would be more correctly said as "Quite the opposite my brother". That is why French speakers will say it with attention/augmentation to the "au" to mean opposition and not a direction. ;) Aurevoir is similar directly translate "to the again see you" but if translating I would write "until we meet/see again".
Kickers I’m giving or would have given multi year contracts too at obviously late 20s early 30s. Vinateri, McManus, Prater, Tucker, Janikowski, Gostowski. Feel free to add
Gano was amazing at the Panthers he never got bad I really have no idea why the panthers cut him! His last season with Carolina he kicked a 63 yard game winning FG against the Giants! Now we have Joey Syle who can barley kick a 35 yarder
Btw steelers dionte johnson was in his own head worse than dan this week. When he dropped his first pass he grabbed his helmet and started having a nervous breakdown. You could see the anguish in his face
I think the Rans gave up on Zuerlein a little too quick. He was great for years, and struggled last season... Now we’re on our 3rd kicker this season going through the carousel
Jason Hanson was one of the best kickers in the game. Probably put the most points up for any lions player history. Besides Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson of course.
