I think people are forgetting the animosity that was between them? Or Brady and Garoppolo? Or between Favre and Rodgers, or Rodgers and Love. Roethlisberger and Rudolph. Starting QBs hate backup QBs with potential. The best backup QB in the starting QBs mind is someone who isn't all that good and just there to be their friend. They can become friends after the fact, like with Bledsoe and Brady and Favre and Rodgers, but during it the rook is trying to take the job of the vet and the vet is doing everything in their power to make sure the rook knows jack. Peyton Manning goes down and a "superbowl contending" team wins 2 games.

I like the approach of Favre to Rodgers as far as not forcing teaching but instead letting Rodgers decide if he wants to learn to be a great QB. Thats the first indicator if someone wants to be great or not. I also noticed comments about coaching and for sure Tom Clements was a huge influence on Rodgers, and now Love. However, I feel Mike Holmgren also deserves a huge amount of credit for his instruction to Favre and the trickledown effect that's had in GB. Here's to at least 12 more years of owning the bears.

Two things: 1. We don’t know yet what kind of head coach Jerod Mayo will become, but the fact is, he’s a walk, don’t run kind of leader, and that’s what Drake Maye needs going into his rookie season. 2. As we all know, the big knock on Maye is his footwork, and I don’t think he starts until Mayo is happy with it, even if the team goes 0-17. I would hope Brisset doesn’t suck enough that we go winless with him starting, but if that’s what it takes to get Maye’s feet to an NFL level, so be it. It just means we get to draft a stud at receiver in 2025.

Even teams who don't have a star quarterback don't truly develop a second quarterback and I never understood why. Give them some time to learn a system and if the one guy isn't advancing maybe promote from within. Most times they sign these guys just to fill a roster spot in practice, but the Packers draft them and develop them in their system. I think that's why you see Packers backups having signature games or finding careers elsewhere.

For every Love who sits and watches and gets better, there’s a Stroud who jumps in instantly and helps turn the whole franchise around in one season. That being said, every team with a franchise QB need to pay attention to what the Packers have been able to do, they literally have a 100% success rate with 1st round QBs. And have had an MVP caliber QB(I’m assuming Love is gonna look even better this year) constantly since the early 90s. I honestly don’t think people have ever seen Rodgers play in college. He was so awkward! The dude was like a robot, I’ve never seen anything like it. Rodger’s play style completely transformed over his time behind Favre. If Rodger’s started day 1 and tried to play with the his arm up by his ear marching with a wide stance in the pocket like he did in college he would have never got a second contract. His style in year 3 was night and day opposites from his college play. Love mimics Rodgers style too. There were times last season I forgot I was watching love because it looked so much like Rodgers. It’s not just mechanics and style it’s leadership, the knowledge of the playbook and NFL defenses. It’s how to lead, and also what not to do… when you start day 1 in a crappy organization you don’t have anyone to look to. There is drama everywhere. You don’t have time to fix anything so your bad habits become permanent. You don’t learn leadership from anyone so you wing it and may develop bad leadership qualities too. Most of these guys have 2-4 different offensive coordinator/ HCs in their first 4 years too so they never get comfortable. Having 3 years to learn 1 offense, how to perfect your craft physically, mentally, and habitually you have a huge leg up on your first start.

Who was the last 1st overall pick to go into the NFL and be elite right away? It has happened before but it definitely takes a really special type of someone to do it. CJ Stroud is a rare human

T-law has been decent, but not elite. He’s the last guy I can think of who has any measure of success as someone who got forced to start right away as the #1 overall pick

Theres nothing that suggests it does anything. If every Hall of Fame QB played right off the bat most if not all would still be HOF'ers.

Can u guys not make stuff. Peterman was the starter when Josh Allen came in. Fitzpatrick was on like 5 other teams since his Buffallo days b4 Allen was a Bill. Other somewhat inaccurate statements, the Favre-Rodgers thing was only an issue in 2005 from a working relationship standpoint. It was good beteen them after 2005.

This will not change unless the labor contract and environment changes. Both player and team and incentivized to produce "right now".

How many #1 draft pick QBs died in Cleveland because you had to play Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Baltimore 6 of your rookie season games lol

Once you're a Top QB in this league, your best ability becomes availability. That's the one thing Andrew Luck, unfortunately, never got taught. He would put his body on the line just to gain an extra yard and it caught up to him eventually.

There are so many times I want the guys on my team (not just the QB) to step out of bounds, or go down instead of fighting for a couple extra yards. There are enough times where they really have to put their bodies on the line, but I like to see them take as few ‘injury causing plays’ as possible. I know it’s not old school, smashmouth football, but I think going into the postseason with a healthy squad can reap a lot of benefits.

Saw this last year with the Steelers. Kenny and Mitch both sucked. Mason Rudolph who had sat and learned from a future HOF QB in Big Ben came in and lit it up.

Everything depends on coach players and the determination of the individual in question. Qbs that are good dont get backups taking there job unless there on the verge of retirement. Kirk cousins is the perfect leader for michael. Im scared of the falcons once this kid takes over. Especially with those young weapons.
