When I first heard this version of the song years ago on Satellite radio,I was driving. I had to pull over as my senses were overwhelmed by this magical collaboration. Many years later it still kisses my soul!
Off Ramp is my favorite Pat Metheny albums. I have it on vinyl, cd and yes even cassette. I used to lay in bed before I went to sleep and listen to this through a pair of high end head phones in the dark. Absolutely transmutational piece of music. The only group that came close imho was Klaus Doldingers Passport.
Should I post a reply simply saying, ME TOO!?? I don't care - Im gonna do it! YES that was THE album that took me to another universe altogether... and just when I was starting to understand "jazz"... OMG! Pat and Lyle messed with my brain in so may ways, for months and years on...Today, I am still kinda fearful to listen to OFFRAMP!! It's just TOOOOOO MUCH: Way too much.
I couldn’t agree more. And it’s great to hear someone else proclaim the magic of Klaus Doldinger’s Passport! I also agree with others that love this approach to this piece. Beautiful percussion. I get to see Pat in Seattle soon.
@@mariadpinto Had it. It ended up warping. It was my girlfriend's son's favorite too. I'm partial to his first album. "Phase Dance" and "San Lorenzo" are 2 of the best pieces of music ever recorded.
After listening to Anna Maria, Pat couldn't help but put his back into his ride! He was all over that! Great piece, and the album they did together is truly wonderful. So glad this was recorded and - thank you, ibs11 - was posted for all of us to enjoy.
This is my "go to" video, especially after a long hard day at work. Anna truly captured the heart of this song. Pat Metheny unites us...you can forget the world and it's problems.
Extraordinaria !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Una de mis preferidas de Pat y con la voz de Anna Maria se traduce en una extraordinaria e imperdible canción.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes he is "from Earth" but like a number of the truly most amazing guitarist's whom I admire he 1) came from a musical family where a parent(s) is a musician and they began teaching him how to read and write at a very early age. Pat began when he was in about 3rd grade with music AND TOOK IT SERIOUSLY. That's how they get the head start on everyone else. Pat's older brother was a trumpet player. 2) Beyond that they learn their theory and during their formative years they study and play incessantly. Pat also says he was lucky that their where A LOT of excellent OLDER than him jazz musician's in his local area who let him sit in on guitar at their gigs and simultaneously they taught him the ropes at an unusually young age. That's how by the time he got to Berkeley School of Music he say's he was a student for maybe 1 semester and then they offered him an instructor job. Put all that together with a strong passion for music and the resulting playing may indeed sound "other worldly" but no as usual it's the result of hard work, study, and lots-o-practice.
yes, I saw him at an ad hoc show at a Holiday Inn the afternoon Jaco died in Ft. Lauderdale, with Peter Erskine on drums... all the guitarists in the room went blind that evening... not a titan, but a true god
I've listened to this version so many times for many reasons, especially Anna Maria's vocals. Today I really focused on Pat's fingers for the first time, and decided that his solo is one of the best ever - the genius coming through those hands is mystical.
💗Bravissima la vocalist 👏👏👏💐 Pat non poteva scegliere meglio con voce femminile ( è già stupenda la voce maschile) nessuna competizione, sono diversi* e bravissimi entrambi*.
Magical and from another world we know not of. Spine chilling vibe from the 80,s. I am taken to a place of beauty and peace listening to this On a beach in italy Porto fino drinking Campari and soda with lots of ice and pat playing to me
The best version of this tune is on his Travels album (1983 double vinyl album). The most profound tune he ever did which is also on that album is titled 'Extradition.'
My lover's son's favorite PM piece when he was 5 yo. We took him to a concert at the San Diego amphitheater. He ended up falling asleep but he got to hear the piece.
My boyfriend and my self went to his concert in LA Ca since the time we waiting for he come back as well my boyfriend is a biggest fan of pat metheny and my self too we have all his CD'S

I w 04:14 wchodzi Pat....i wszystko jasne !!!
It’s a shame that Pat doesn’t really feel his playing. 😉 I also absolutely love his use of human voices as musical instruments. He is a creative genius.
