Small Video of me covering with Claps patterns the time signature changes in First Circle by Pat Metheny Group with time notation . Also I put the proper sheet music notation at the end to the main pattern which is in 11/8 (or 11/4 is valid too).
Note: The original 11/8 pattern starts one 16th note forward. But for this part the musicians' accents implies they delayed the pattern starting it from first beat of the measure, the shaker can be still heard doing the original in low volume. if I play high volume claps as the shaker's it would sound weird for me. So for the explanation at the end of the video, start the patern but with a 16th note rest.

Yo, bro! Awesome transcriptions.. Do you mind if I request an album? Can you transcript In the Wake of Poseidon by King Crimson? I would sell my organs for it.

What confuses me is how I count the follow eighth note groups: 3,2 3,2,2 3,3,2,2... Yet when I count the quarter notes I get the same feel as you: 11/4. Wait, I’m a dumb ass. 3+2+3+2+2+3+3+2+2=22/16=11/8

Claps are inverted. Check. Youre playing it before it really begins

I checked the song and you are MOSTLY right, because the pattern (if counted as 11/8) begins one 16th note forward and you can prove it easily because Aznar vocals starts indeed in the first beat of the measure so the pattern starts with a 16th note rest, then the claps are replaced by low volume shaker that still plays the pattern but with some ornaments. BUT the part shown here (and also happens in the original studio version) after Lyle Mays solo and chorus, their playing strongly implies they delayed the pattern in their instruments one 16th note (starting it from the first beat) although you can still hear the low volume shaker doing the original pattern. if you put high volume claps as the shaker's, it would sound very weird and kinda meaningless to what they are playing. So for me this is the best way to play the coda and as for my 11/8 explanation at 2:12 there is indeed the mistake you said; it should start 1/16 note forward. Thanks for the appreciation.

@@oscarj thanks for the answer! well, the pattern continues the over the end of this music, except when its not 11/8. every time is 11/8 the pattern is the same as intro. the claps are not the pattern, claps are like "counterpoint" for "the pattern". "the pattern" real is that which voice starts on intro. And happens. You can check it on Pat Metheny Songbook. I encourage to lokk at this: the claps are counterpoint. but, you can have your own vision, sure. all the best.

first circle original version is more easy, clearly, to check these questions than live version.
