Had not seen this for along time -just had to play it for Lyle Mays RIP He along with Pat gave me so many great memories in music! I just cant imagine how many memories Pat must have of his time playing with Lyle. .p.s Rita is so delicate on the piano Thanks for the upload .

For anyone who isn't familiar with her work Rita Marcotulli is an incredible pianist in her own right. She has a very uniquely percussive and creative playing style perfectly suited to jazz and improvisation, as well as great feel. They should collaborate more often.

Qui la Marcotulli non c'entra un picchio. Pat in quel periodo era in tour in Giappone poi ha fatto una pausa per un mini tour italiano di una decina di date con Pino Daniele e, guarda caso, la pianista del gruppo di Pino era proprio la Marcotulli! e dato che proprio in quel periodo erano in giro per l'italia, e che proprio in quel periodo usciva il film, han detto "andiamo a fare pubblicità al film e tu bella pianista italiana vieni a farmi compagnia!"

They are acting to play on the music directly taken from the CD of the original movie soundtrack. The piano has been played in the recording by Pat himself, so it's obvious it's in perfect synchro!
this music is part of original soundtrack of an Italian movie, "passaggio per il paradiso". If you buy that CD, you will find this music and other nice ones

Chitarra e pianoforte suonano all'unisono, viene fuori un suono unico. Se senti il CD con sto pezzo sentirai lo stesso suono! Ricordo che a suo tempo sono arrivate telefonate in RAI segnalando che la chitarra non si sentiva... poi Pippo Baudo ha spiegato il suono unico che viene fuori.... tristezza.... pubblico scarso..... :(
certo che se senti il CD viene fuori lo stesso suono, perchè non è una vera esibizione live stanno facendo finta di suonare!! e suonano proprio sull'unica versione registrata del brano, cioè quella tratta dal CD della colonna sonora originale. La gente è sorda e non sa guardare e non capisce un cazzo...altro che telefonate alla RAI!

Pat has no electronics powered on, no cables, no mic receivers turned on, and at one point the pianist touch a key (a note E with her left thumb at 1:21) while in the music you don't hear it. And the original guitar played to record this music was a metallic strings short scale guitar with a higher brilliant sound. This is his "normal" hollow body guitar and the sound, even if processed, could never be this one. Sound levels are perfect since this is exactly the song as recorded in the studio CD, but the overlap effect between piano and guitar is caused by the frequency range of the two instruments, very similar
Jaymz Bee he probably used the piccolo Ibanez guitar in the recording because what he's playing sounds an octave higher. Check out the Letter from home song, you'll see that the sound is quite similar

this is a precise effect wanted by Metheny. This video is not a live exhibition, their playing is fake, they are playing over the music taken directly from the CD of the original soundtrack, where Pat played a piccolo guitar (short scale with metal strings, sounds higher and more brilliant than an acoustic guitar). Here Pat plays a hollow body guitar and even if hardly processed it will never sound like this. A piccolo guitar has a frequency range very similar to a piano, hence the overlap between the two instruments

creo que no te percatas del sonido de la guitarra porque acústicamente suena como piano,....sin embargo hay que tener presente que la guitarra de Pat suena habitualmente así,....creo que mas bien es el piano el que se pierde o se confunde con la orquestación....

Basta vedere come l'attacco del brano parte "imbarazzato", a 1:21 la pianista preme un tasto (una nota Mi con il pollice sinistro) che in realtà non si sente, le elettroniche striminzite di Pat sono spente, niente cavi, ecc. La chitarra non si sente perchè questo brano è stato registrato con una chitarra a scala corta, cioè piccola e con corde metalliche, che ha un suono molto acuto e brillante, che si sovrappone molto con una buona parte del registro del piano. E' un effetto voluto da Pat (il piano che senti, tra l'altro l'ha suonato lui nella registrazione). Qui invece "usa" una semiacustica che, anche volendo elaborare il suono a mille, difficilmente tirerebbe fuori quel suono

Actually they play on prerecorded music. You can realize it in the way they play.She was not ready at beginning.He plays the melody notes just to pretend. (he wrote them of course) They are two fantastic and professional artist but this is fake.
