There were also more parity in the 90's, more contenders per season than in any other era.
@ebn128
@ebn128 2 года назад
The parity has returned. There’s no super team in the league anymore, just 1-2 punches (I.e Harden & Embiid, Kyrie & KD)
@bigpoppa3999
@bigpoppa3999 2 года назад
Lol parity😂😂😂😂. There's only 3 championship teams in the 90's. The NBA is much more competitive right now. People who disagree are the people who simply don't want to hear the truth even though it's clear as day.

@@bigpoppa3999 I disagree that the NBA is more competitive in this era.. maybe the skillset and the talent may be evolved and it's now a SCIENTIFIC GAME unlike in the past.. but in terms of competitiveness I don't think so??. Today is more offense oriented era . There is no competitive and passion in terms of toughness and no more defensive style that makes the game more exciting.. no PHISICALITY whatsoever. The defense is soft.. if anyone disagrees this then I believe they don't really know the true reality or environment of how BASKETBALL truly is played .. EUROLEAGUE is much more better right now than the NBA if you compare their style and the competitiveness.. imagine guys like LUKA DONCIC. GIANNIS and even DREYMOND GREEN reacts on how soft this era is.. even LUKA. GIANNIS and VALANCIUNAS says that's it's even tougher and more exciting to play in Europe rather in the NBA.. That alone saids it all
@mrboo3049
@mrboo3049 Год назад
@@ebn128 It's because it's a more fluid and offense oriented era.. more like a SHOOTING ERA.. Guys like to shoot threes and shoot fadeaways. I don't see a lot breakthrough strong finishes and strong dunks.. there is no more HARD NOSED DEFENSE because if you body up a defender it will be already a violation. The RULES in the NBA LESSEN TOO MUCH.. bring back the handchecking and LET GUYS play tougher defense. The game is much easier now rather than in the DEFENSE ORIENTED ERA in the 80's and 90's.. which many will have a hard time to understand. EUROLEAGUE is much more better than the NBA If they don't believe it Just ask LUKA DONCIC. GIANNIS. DREYMOND GREEN and JONAS VALANCIUNAS they will all tell you how the game in this era was too soft..

90's was the pinnacle of professional basketball. You watch the sport nowadays and to imagine a player paid Millions and Millions for playing professionally as an elite athlete among many other elite athletes on the bench and in the league. And then to watch some of the lethargic performances and lapses in defense and moments of stupidity and break downs in modern basketball. It makes you wonder where it all went wrong. And how the era could be so inferior in quality to the 90s, it really boggles the mind. It is like players don't take enough pride in their effort and hustle like they used to.
@boogieloo1831
@boogieloo1831 6 лет назад
Thank You - EXACTLY!! Kids interpret it as hate but it's because they never watched quality ball. Today's game with the new rules and street ball culture has eschewed FUNDAMENTALS!! And this loss of fundamentals trickled down to NCAA and to AAU. Today, kids learn between the leg dribbles but never learn how to play off the ball. Many don't learn team ball concepts and are mainly one on one players when they enter the NBA today. This results in broken plays, lack of understanding of clock management and just countless boneheaded incidents when you watch games nightly. The infiltration of corporate money also plays a major part as so much money is involved, the game will never get better without reform. Nobody cares anymore. It sucks for the fans period.

All of American culture is inferior to what it once was. We've been in rapid decline since the early 2000s.

The coverage too. The work of the NBA on ESPN, especially the studio personalities, is even more lethargic. Malika Andrews and Jalen Rose, really? They don’t even do cover stories the way that NBC did.
@moetoosmooth2741
@moetoosmooth2741 9 месяцев назад
Bull. The 90s guys cannot shoot pass or handle the ball the way todays guys can and there weren’t anomalies like today. Lebron is built like Malone but scores like Mike. KD is 6’10 but can handle and shoot 3s. No one can run the floor with the speed of Westbrook or Morant for that matter. Reggie couldn’t shoot like curry. The style of play was simply dirty Basketball and MJ always complained about it. The league had an illegal defense rule where you had to play man defense and because guys were too slow to guard quick players like young Jordan and Iverson they resorted to pushing,shoving and grabbing instead of laterally moving their feet like real athletes.

Defense caught up in the 90s (along with players with bad fundamentals in the mid to late 90s) Which is why...they brought back zones in the early 2000s........to increase scoring!!!

Most pro sports have a progression. Players from previous eras simply would not be able to compete in following eras - tactics, training, nutrition, conditions… all combine to make the leagues too good, too fast and too strong for the McEnroes, Grafs, Gretzkys and Montanas of the world. The NBA is different. Players from the 80’s and 90’s would dominate the NBA today. Players like Kareem, Jordan, Bird and Magic could easily over come the better training and nutrition players have today because they are simply more skilled and much tougher. Just imagine Kareem playing today with that skyhook - you can’t push him around, you can’t hand check him…. Even more so with Jordan and Bird. If anyone thinks Jordan wouldn’t be able to develop more of a 3 point game has no idea how much he changed his game multiple times over the years to combat how he was being defended.
@riffsthatkill2180
@riffsthatkill2180 2 года назад
Jordan could have had a better 3 point shot when he played. He may have been a little better if he came up in today's game, but really the only thing that made him good at that shot was when they moved the three point line in. He just wasn't as good at shooting from distance.
@rickbateman2401
@rickbateman2401 2 года назад
@@riffsthatkill2180 just think how bad Leflop's 3point shot would be if he had to shoot from a couple of feet further out. The fact is, Jordan would have become as good as he needed to be with the 3 ball. Here's something that you also don't seem to get - Jordan's 37.1 points per game hasn't been touched since the NBA started to degrade into a 3 point shooting contest game after game.

The 90's were soft; they were just there and became softer as time went on...really the softhood started in 1990-91 and after that the game is what it is today... thanks to Jordan not being able to beat Detroit without flagrant foul rules.

The 90s nba was the most competitive era. U had a hall of Famer or 2 on almost every team! That 1984 draft was sick. Olajuwon. Jordan, barkley & john Stockton. 4 dream team players & hall of Famers in one draft. A draft where dream went before jordan & the rockets have no regrets. When jordan returned that year & a half dream won 2 titles 2 finals mvp league mvp & was the best player in the nba. I can understand portland not drafting jordan bc they already had a young hall of fame sg in clyde the glide drexler. They made 2 finals bit just couldnt beat the pistons & bulls. 2 dynasties. I just dont know how the rockets got to the finals instead of the lakers in 86. The celtics just destroyed them. Its unreal the lakers were in the finals every year of the decade except one

The Bulls did play the Lakers in the Finals in 1991, and they dominated. What about if the 1993 or 1996 Bulls played the 1985 Lakers? Not sure, but it would have been exciting. I think I'll go with his Royal Airness........great centers on other teams didn't stop the Bulls, they always threw 3 big men and up to 18 fouls at them. Ask Patrick Ewing how it was against the Bulls.

Riley was likely correct. The 80’s Celtics were also probably better than the best Bulls teams. Could you imagine any one of those Bulls teams with a quality center? Like a Ewing maybe or whomever? Yikes. THAT would have been eight straight

Go watch an actual game from the 90s and tell yourself you're actually watching great defense. 90s NBA was watered down, slow, low scoring crap. Watch a Jordan highlight video and show me all the great defense of the 90s or 80s without showing the pistons. It's not possible
