Hello friends! In today's "quick tutorials" video, I wanted to show you this neat little patch I did behind the pocket on a pair of jeans. I wanted to take this opportunity to further explain some of the theory behind our actions when making patches look good. I hope you like the bobbin tip I shared!

I never thought about putting a different color on the bobbin to blend the colors

This was awesome! I had been doing this technique, but had no idea if I was going about it the right way! Also, the tension for the bottom bobbin, thank you so much for teaching this as well. Another thing, thank you for teaching every step and why, without any confusion it all! So good of you. You are a wonderful teacher ❤ I'm truly grateful to have found you. Jesus bless you 🙏

I do this repair often, but I have always removed the heavy tacking. What a brilliant idea, leaving it intact! It will save so much time!! Thank you!
@DowntownTailoring
@DowntownTailoring 2 года назад
I remove the heavy tack too most of the time. But in this case the whole underneath was so wide that it wasn't worth it. I feel that every sewing job is different even if it's the same. Cheers 🙂

I love, how fearless you are with that razor - have you ever accidentally cut into a clients garment? 😱 And isn't it nice, when a repair turns out to be basically invisible, when you're done? I love that feeling!
@DowntownTailoring

It might happen. Ups! That's why I tilt the blade towards the sparable side. If any side can't be broken, then I use my seam ripper.

You have wonderful videos and ideas and skills. Can you do a video with tips and instructions on the best way to lengthen shallow women's jeans pockets, please? I am in the process of my third pair. While my results work, they are awkward and not quite as professional as I'd like. It is difficult to sew with the machine in the area at the pants side seam. I suspect the best results might come from opening the side seam which I had avoided up to now. Thank you. Your site is very helpful as I get back into sewing!

Hi! I've been meaning to make this video for a long time. I think I'm going to make it very soon. But, in the meantime, I wanted to say that sometimes it's better to open the pockets, but it isn't always necessary. Cheers 😊

@turtlekai9096 2 года назад
Brilliant! I do same but... Have one more lil point I want you know.... Stitching not from up and down but stich how jeans lines go. You can see on the fabric dark and light lines, so if you stich on them your stitching will be invisible.
@DowntownTailoring
@DowntownTailoring 2 года назад
Thanks so much! I think we are on the same page. I will have to check out the video again to see how I can improve the explanation for the next time. I meant to sew following the lines, right in between them, so the stitches are hidden and I didn't mean up and down. I meant sewing forward straight and then turn the material to the opposite direction to have a better control. It certainly seems I'm going up and down, but the direction is guided solely for the grain of the fabric that will give us the lines to follow. Thanks for letting me know, I'll check out the video right away. Cheers!

I love listening to your narration just as much as watching your repairs. You make machine sewing sound possible. I am afraid of my sewing machine. I messed up my feed dogs by getting cloth caught in them, causing a tangle. I haven't tried using it again, since. The noises my machine made, it sounded... upset. I kept having to rethread every couple stitches. I think I'm a better handsewer.

Hey honey I read your message. I totally understand, I messed my machine years ago that same way. Take your machine to a sewing machine repair man and get your machine timing checked. After mine was fixed (it was the timing I threw off when the material got stuck) the machine thread kept braking like yours and the problem was very simple to fix. Actually my sister-in-law helped me figure it out, was first make sure it's threaded right, every machine is different, also, some machines you put the presser foot down then the needle or the thread will break when you try to sew. Some machines are the opposite. Put the needle down then the presser foot down then sew.. I felt very silly that it was a simple fix but don't. I was grateful for the simple fix and I hadn't broken my machine. Don't be afraid of your machine, it's easier to learn than a car and sewing is great fun! Good luck ☺️

@@shellyoliver6173 thank you for the encouragement. I will look to see who repairs sewing machines locally. Mechanical things don't like me, lol. Iz ok. Thank you again for the encouragement. I don't know what I'm afraid of. That it will catch on fire? That I'll burn out the motor? That it will blow up? No clue what I think is going to happen.

Hey lady don't be afraid your missing out on a great adventure 😁 I don't believe you will catch it on fire or blow it up, believe me when I tell you I was afraid when I did the same thing 😂 I was afraid every time I used it for a while after my mishaps with it but once you start using it it will get easier and easier. Best of luck to you it's going to work out for you ☺️
