first off if you understoof the context of the lightsaber its anakins lightsaber and what Luke had gone through then yes, I finally understand why he didn't want to use or see that weapon again. So great edit again for the person to make this video portaying the journey of this weapon. but agian, if I were luke, after creating Kylo Ren, the next vader, he felt he had failed, hubris my friend. So of course he threw the lightsaber when he saw it again.
'Rian Johnson didn't portray that scene the way this guy has' - says who? Why isn't that a perfectly valid interpretation of the scene? The idea of an interpretation of a scene being 'canon' is a very vague idea indeed. Does it really take the 18+ hours of the current Star Wars episodic saga condensed into a four-minute fan edit before we go, 'Ah, right, ok THAT makes sense when you see it like that'. Do we just expect a director to spoon feed us context, when we're eight films deep into the storyline.
Director Kid - Fair enough. I think that's an impractical and slippery slope to go down in storytelling. We can't expect to hold audiences' hands and preface virtually all important events in Star Wars with flashbacks that emphasise their thematic importance. Literally the whole saga is packed with overarching themes, callbacks, etc and, as such, it would be clumsy, annoying and ham-fisted to litter Star Wars with such flashbacks. I see no particular reason why this scene merits an exception. I think great films should be made on the assumption that the audience is smarter than we give them credit for (...even if that's sometimes debatable). (Also, much as I really enjoy this fan edit, just purely from an aesthetic standpoint I would absolutely not want flashbacks from previous trilogies in the new films - that would be jarring and really take you out of the moment, imho).
So many people forget to look at Star Wars as all one story. They’ve bought the marketing tactic to think this isn’t Lucas’ story anymore. But it’s all connected. I’m glad you realize it and will share as much as I can
The Chief 16 yeah. If they were a little braver they would not have played it “safe” with the format of the Force Awakens. I think that it genuinely annoyed Lucas that they did another Death Star story - because other than starkiller base the story was rather close to his vision except for Rey’s age. In the end, it wound up being an interesting explanation for the quick downfall of the new republic rather than what would have required more politics - which would have sucked.
the last 2 movie have had zero involvement with lucas. and really zero involvement with eachother. the second movies last jedi is a piece of shit movie with star wars themes.
Watching this made me appreciate how much the Star Wars movies changed over the years. The franchise has been through a lot since it was created, and with the addition of The Last Jedi, it made me feel lucky to part of this fandom in this generation. To quote Eliza, "Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now."
This captures not just the story of the lightsaber (which is a bit like Excalibur) but really emphasizes how much the entire franchise has changed over the years, with each trilogy. Really powerful, adding TLJ footage made it even better awesome job
It bothered me at first that Luke's force projection used the blue lightsaber instead of the green one. But I like it now. After rejecting the call at the beginning of the movie by throwing the lightsaber away, he re-embraces his role as a Jedi legend in the end. And it brings his journey full circle.
The original trilogy purists can hate on the prequels as much as they want but Lucas really nailed the backstory of Anakin Skywalker. It's just pure art and showing Darth Vader in his younger years when he believed that no one could kill a Jedi to the point where he becomes the Sith with one of the highest Jedi kill counts is just amazing.
Rest in peace my childhood lightsaber.... That light saber went through everything... Prequel.... Original and sequel.... A lot people have a hand on that light saber and now it gone....
Still breaks my heart to know that the lightsaber Anakin Skywalker created was now split in two. Over the 50+ years of its existence in the galaxy now for it's time to come. No longer a weapon passed from generation to generation but a relic of history fortold from the time of the clone wars, fall of the republic, rise of the empire, now the current state of chaos in the galaxy. The lightsaber has the history of its creation by Anakin, taken by Obi Wan, passed onto Luke, lost in Bespin, locked away by Maz, given to Finn then used by Rey in the fight against Kylo and now just an artifact. R.I.P. Graflex(Chosen ones weapon)
Andrew Meyer I feel like if you even muted the music, you would still see the intention of this short tribute vid. No disrespect to John Williams; he's the greatest.
This.... Explains why rey looked relieved when she buried this saber on Tattoine. It's an old weapon that's served many masters, and it did a lot of good, and a lot of bad... And it also is the weapon that made the 3 owners truly realise what they were capable of, whether that be becoming the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, and craving more than was given, or trying to face down an ever growing threat, or just finding it by accident when she was destined to do so much more. Every saber holds a story. It isn't just a weapon, but later on, it becomes a symbol that at one point in the past, there WAS serenity and peace, and at some point soon, it will come again... This lightsaber in particular is one of the best written elements in all of the saga, and I think people need to show it more respect.
Oh my god this was beautiful. So beautiful. The way you tied all three trilogies together through the story of this one lightsaber; I tip my hat to you, good sir!
that scene where it has Yoda narrate, telling Luke how failure is the greatest teaching, whilst showing Luke holding his sober over Ben was so powerful, this video is epic
I'm only coming across this now as I wanted to go back and watch the original version and saw this pop up as well. Good sir, you've managed to managed surpass your previous work and I can't wait to see your "Part III" version which I have no doubt in my mind that you're probably already making in your spare time. You've got a damn good career in front of you and what some might call a gift for editing. You took scenes I've seen a hundred times and managed to make them give me goosebumps again every time I rewatch your cut/narrative like I was watching them for the first time as a child (child for the OG trilogy at least). Bravo. Simply, bravo.
Amazing, dude. Great job! One thing I would change though, is when you cut between the scene were Ben asks Rey to join him, and the scene where Vader asks Luke to rule with him. While these two scenes absolutely do parallel each other, it actually has more in common with the scene in Revenge of the Sith between Anakin and Padme before he force chokes her. Anakin: "I'm more powerful than the Chancellor! I can overthrow him!" Kylo Ren: Kills Snoke Anakin: "And together you and I can rule the Galaxy! Make things the way we want them to be!" Kylo Ren: "Rey, I want you to join me, and rule by my side." (Or something like that, I don't remember the exact line) Padme: (begins to cry) "Anakin. You're breaking my heart. You're going down a path I can't follow." Rey: (also begins to cry) "No Ben. Please don't go this way." (Or in other words..... "Please don't go down this path") All three of these scenes parallel each other, and I believe that Kylo Ren and Rey are meant to represent Anakin and Padme. In the prequels, Anakin meets padme, everything goes wrong, and then he eventually leaves her for power. In the sequels, Kylo already starts out at his lowest point, and has committed the same atrocities that Anakin did, such as nearly destroying the Jedi order, and I believe that in episode 9 we'll see the reversal of Anakin, and Ben will give up his power for Rey, which will bring the entire saga full circle.
In ROTJ Luke is throwing his saber away in defiance to show the Palpatine that the fight is over and he won't be his servant. He's refusing an order to kill his father and join Palpatine. Which is not the same reason he throws it away in TLJ. In TLJ it is in disgust over the Jedi order, as he later explains. The two scenes look nice cut together but the have different meanings. He also threw away the green saber in ROTJ, not Anakin's.
Right, so your first instinct was to 'love' it - but other people convinced you it was bad? Do you make all decisions about what entertainment you like and dislike based on what other people telling you about it?
Director Kid - So you didn't actually love it as you originally said, you just 'acted' like you loved it. Very different thing. Fair enough, just say that the first time and be done with it. You're allowed to not like it.
I'm very glad to find someone who sees Star Wars as I see. And who sees this movies beyond hate, of course they are not perfect, but they always talk about this fight between good and evil, darkside and the light, almost always an fight inside all of us.
I’d love a third one with episode 9 (even though it wasn’t that good). Finish off with Rey burying the saber. You’re already amazing with these and you would make a great finale
I love it! Especially 2:27 because it takes the wind out of TLJ-haters' sails who are mad about Luke throwing the saber away on Ahch-To. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cuj3y_aDNwk.html
Just before that means more to me. That lightsaber represents everything he hated about the Galaxy. Why else would he put himself on an island if not to get away form what that meant to him?
Let me congratulate you first for your great work with a great element within the great saga of Star Wars. The lightsaber of the Chosen One makes an incredible journey through the life of the Skywalkers. It is the link between the balance of the Force. I look forward to what awaits us for episode 9 and what will happen to Anakin Skyealker's lightsaber. Your video has been a great poetry and I wanted you to know it. Greetings from Chile- South America ✌
