One thing about Regil, you dont have to help the hell knights to get him, he can come after the event in the main quest, and he doesn't actually care if you didn't help him, as far as he's concerned you made a logical decision to continue the crusade (Personally he's my favorite companion).
Thank you for this, companions are often the big make or break for me when it comes to these games so I’m always really interested in that above all else!
Honestly from what I've seen of Lann so far in my playthrough he feels more neutral good than lawful neutral. He makes plenty of chaotic remarks, doesn't seem to have much respect for official law, etc.
'lawful' is a bit odd cause it can mean follow your own set of laws, inquisirors and hellknights are good examples as they often dont follow laws of the land, kingdom or society in general, but their own subset of rules. In that case Lann does fit into that especially when tied to the mongrels, but otherwise i see your point :)
he's lawful, because mechanically he needs to be. his character may as well not be. I can see why they made him neutral instead of good because he can be overly "pragmatic" (read cynical) but as usual, good and evil are poorly defined.
Trevor could be recruited in beta. But it was super buggy, Sosiel would either kill him even if he was not supposed to, or after they made up, it would freeze all interactions. Very few people got past these bug and got him.
I am trying to figure out how you manage to be so productive, knocking out so many videos and simultaneously exploring every nook and cranny in the game. It is beyond impressive.
I was going to make a snarky comment about you not knowing the pronunciations when its voice acted, but then I remembered how late it was when I found out I'd been pronouncing Regongar wrong the entire time!
A bit off topic, but it does bother me more then It should, that as the Lich, you can't romance companion. I get it "BuT tHe LoRe BrO". I found it strange, that Demon and devil can, but bone daddy is out of picture.
Well, besides lacking the physical utilities for intimacy being an undead skeleton. You basically kill off all your emotions becoming a Lich, which includes the capacity for love. Demon's make sense since they have succubus/incubus and are all about passions and hedonism.
@@azurefrost9233 Undead in both D&D and PF technically dont lack the physical utilities tho. And if you both dont have some negative energy spells nor had the decency to use a spell that preserves flesh, any sensible lich that knew at least basic magic should be able to polymorph any object/shapechange/alter self/aura+regen/aspect spell/etc to bring back your old form for between 10~ minutes to the more reasonable 4+ hours to do the deed.
Nice video, thanks. The description of the "idiot in search of knowledge" has made me want to buy the game. One thing I might have missed from our review and this - do you roll a main character and then can take up to five companions? (Like Baldurs Gate) Or can you create more than one character for the party? (Like Icewind Dale)
I've already made my mind up of what companions I will use in my party. Do the other companions level up if I don't include them in my main party ? Can I do their individual quests if I don't include them in my main party ?
Holy crap, thanks man. I feel so dumb. Soon as you replied I made it to the part where you speak on it. You the man bro! I’ve put in 3 hours in the game so far and I’m loving it.
I was gonna say the same thing lol "Aren't Hellknights all Lawful? Because I have a Paladin (LG only) multiclassing as a Hellknight (L only) of the Torrent (mostly LG) in one of my games" haha But yeah, I looked it up, you only have to *be* Lawful to gain levels a Hellknight, you don't lose Hellknight abilities if you change alignments.
For me meeting these guys was like "Oh look, an archer. Oh, you have a bow too. And so do you....why do all these people have bows???" *Tavern defense occurs* "Oooooooohhhh, I get it now. Damn." Seriously, we need to talk about that tavern defense. It was REALLY bad.
@@tzarkolbaska2746 ''so there is no humour here''... well there really is dark humour there, someone made up her name. was it intended? maybe not. does it need to be for it to be funny? nope. and incase you think its not funny because the characters ingame called her that to mock her... well, as is often said, dark humour is alot like food, not everyone gets it.
In order to progress Camelia's quest you must take the offer to help the man out of the caves (Horgus Gwerm), as well as the quest to meet him at his mansion when he ask you in the tavern hub.
Had what I think was a minor spoiler about a companion's story when, at level 2, was checking cross-class options and was restricted because of a specific alignment. Edit: Also, another companion wasn't able to use an ability when I cross-classed because, of what I thought was a bug but, maybe is a spoiler.
There's also the "heavenly fire" ability of the celestial bloodline sorcerer, which heals good-aligned characters and hurts evil-aligned characters, that you can target her with and get a hint
I genuinely believe all of them are well written except 2, Camelia and Wenduag, that I don't ever keep because I think you'd have to be very chaotic stupid to keep them
@@MichealThe Apparently if you keep her wenduag has a great arc and a good romance. I've heard multiple people say she's a a very well written and character that you can knudge in certain ways.
@@razorflossrazor2937 That may be true, later on in her story or romance she might be better but I haven't gone there with her yet because I don't like her from the start. ***Slight spoilers of the very first main quest and of a part of a companion quest*** I genuinely cannot find a way to justify choosing her as a companion when her introduction was her betraying her clan, her "friend" Lann, and you by sending people to be sacrificed to demons in the maze. Then she betrays her demon masters to be your henchman. She straight-up tells Lann she doesn't care about anything other than power and will manipulate and grovel to literally anyone to get it, before betraying them. Then you have a choice: choose Lann, the helpful, responsible guy who helps, or choose Wenduag the unrepentant backstabbing ladder climber who has betrayed 3 groups in one quest. In the one playthrough where I chose her at this point (which I quit pretty early for unrelated reasons), she was groveling and sucking up to me the entire time and I hated it. Later on in the story, if you didn't recruit her at first, you get another chance to recruit her, this time she ate a kid and went back to demonworship; You beat her *again* she restates her point *again* that she just cares for power and ladder climbing. In the one playthrough where I recruited her at this point (which I haven't finished yet), she was also groveling and sucking up on top of being just really annoying. When she proposed a relationship with my character I was grossed out and refused. ***End of spoilers***
Not gonna lie, Nenio did grow on me. I just love how every single bad guy you meet in the game pretty much hates Nenio IN PARTICULAR, and I just love how she gets to pull that off consistently.
Great video and I found it very interesting and thank you so much for share it.And I know that it’s going to be a great game and I can wait to get my hands on it, but I know that I got a while to go because I will be playing it on Xbox one
Lann is a pain in the butt, I had wanted to get horizontal with Arueshalae but taking him up on the ramparts and beating the tar out of him seemed to put us in a relationship, she seemed to have gone off the boil after I ruined his day and told him I wasnt interested in him anymore
How about a video on how to recruit them. ESPECIALLY, Trever cause i have no idea what you specifically need to do to recruit him. And there is nothing online about this.
The companions seems really ranged and evil oriented, Im feeling like your kinda being forced to be evil and be a tank. Unless of course you go good then you have Seelah, but it seems like not many will get along with her.
@@Haos51 I'm told it has to do with dialogue choices during c3. Apparently you need to tell Sosiel that war might have changed his brother, or something like that, to keep him alive. Can't confirm as I've not tried it myself yet, but maybe someone else can.
it was not communicated clearly which ones would be more caster type of classes other than the thief and i guess camillia? i'm not very knowledgeable about the magic in this game so i know i won't make one on my own, but figured it might be good having one in the party. also, is there anything you feel i would really be missing out on if i just made a full custom party?
I can take a moment to break down the companions, from their default set up (minus spoiler companion cause i haven't used him) Non-caster companions: Wenduag, Lann, Regil, Greybor Semi caster: Cameilla, Arushaelae, Woljif, Seelah Full Caster: Ember, Nenio, Soseil, Daeran
As for missing out if you build a full merc party, you will be forced often in the story to bring certain party members for plot missions, especially early in the game (up to Act 3 without a doubt) so you will find yourself forced to leave some custom party members at base often. The writing for this game and the camp interactions are very nice, so i would say you will be missing out on a chunk of the charm of this game, especially since the supermajority of the cast you get early level enough that you can pretty much just build them how you like. I feel they did a better job of diversifying the starting party this time around than they did in Kingmaker. By the time the game opens up, your cast of party members is diverse enough that i didn't feel like i was punished for not putting some feature in my MC (looking at you, Early Mobility Checks in Kingmaker) Finally, have fun getting the money together to hire 4-6 mercs for a custom party. The cost to buy a custom character ramps up quickly based on the highest level character in your party, so if that is your intent better penny pinch from the prologue
a video about choices for multiclassing the companions/changing their class without breaking the overall party comp you get without hiring mercs. i have many idea'S, but i am too afraid to experiment and then maybe break my campaign
In your difficulty settings when starting a new campaign you can add retraining as an option. Finding it helpful as I am fairly new to pathfinder (played 3.5 so have basics). Alows you to retrain your companions for free (sets them to their default starting state) so you can experiment or even just correct some subpar mistakes you made in leveling. Helping me a lot when I realise an ability doesnt synergize like I thought, or doesnt work at all like I thought it did, etc...
I disagree with many of Owlcat's character alignments. Daeran to me is a poster child for Chaotic Neutral, baffles me that he's been pigeon-holed as NE. Ember is _clearly_ CG. Seelah is NG, which is so dumb considering that she's the archetypal Paladin in Pathfinder lore - very badly written character. Regill is not evil, he is the epitome of LN. Greybor is LE.
The companions are great story wise. Unfortunately they are not very consistent in terms of power. Some are powerhouses while others are underpowered. Greybor for example is a fascinating character but his stats make him less than optimal at his job which is a pity
@@thejake1453 if you don't have time i suggest you play something else, wotr is one of the longest games I've ever played and I've played quite a lot of RPGs.
Only one cleric companion? Wow haha it will be hard to play on harder difficulty without pure cleric. Whether the main play as cleric or tanker need to have healing attribute then
One of the companions is an Oracle who heals better than the cleric, the witch can also heal well and so does the shaman. Besides if you want an optimized cleric you can hire one via mercenary system
dear god almost all of them are wizard hybrid, why god, why do you hate me, i was hoping for some party members, who didnt suck at melee fighting, not all of them sucking at it
Regill, Greybor and Trever all come in as pure melee attackers. Regill and Greybor both dual wield, and Greybor does sneak attacks which means he does a LOT of damage. Wenduag /Lann are pretty good weapon damage dealers early on, and so is woljif even if he's also a caster - finesse training with daggers means he adds his dex modifier to damage with them, and as a rogue he has sneak attack dice. And he can also sneak attack with his spells, which means his cantrips can do actual damage, when for full wizards they're most of the time absolutely useless.
Interesting that most of the human companions are people of colour. It is nice that Owlcat had a particular story it wanted to tell and didn't let finding a "perfect" demographic balance shape their presentation. Kudos
I'm not sure whether you are being sarcastic or not, but there are only three human companions. Of those, Seelah was not created by Owlcat. She was borrowed from the source material because he class and background were a perfect fit for the game, and like with the first game, they wanted to have one of the official Iconic characters as a companion. Anyhow, they used her official appearance and had no choice in that. As I said, they picked her for her class and background, not her racial appearance. And the spoiler character has to match her own racial appearance for reasons, so they didn't actually choose that one either. That just leaves the third, who I don't think is a POC? Not sure honestly. In any case, as you can see, this just naturally happened as a result of the story, as you said, and was not in any way done on purpose.
Wenduags class SUCKS! It's like Owlcat forgot to change her. A stock fighter wtf... I think she should of been a kineticist dark elementalists.., or a least a slayer. Her spider legs giving her higher strength then a typical creatures her size would of suited her theme. Jumping around the field slicing people up with two swords is how I picture it. Lowest Cha as she is scary af and lower her con maybe. Right now if I want arueshalae in the party I feel like wenduag is a waste/ double archer.
She is a level 1 fighter, also if you think fighter sucks you clearly dont know 2 shits about them. She is way better than Lann ever could be. Spec her into dualwielding throwing axes with weapon training, and thanks to armor training she can easily use medium armor and reach silly AC for a ranged character. Besides, she is a level 1 fighter, you can literally change her into anything you want.
@@NoBuddy89 Yeah, but from a lore standpoint, she is hunter, not fighter. Hell, why not bloodrager? She drank demon blood and all other mongrels like raging. So we have new class in our team, one that wasnt in kingmaker and one that makes sence for her
