Annual maintenance is primarily thinning aquatic plants. I will try and work this question into a video. We are planting the bog tomorrow in one of the final video shoots. HOWEVER we are going to revisit this pond in late October for some glamor video footage. At this time would be a perfect time to do a thinning of aquatic plants maintenance video. Yes we use UV clarifiers. We don't use them in every installation but I am a fan of UV. Our Koi Pond Fundamentals video has a UV in the life support system. One of our plumbing videos displays a UV filter as well.

Dear ponddigger i really like your episodes, because of all the details described. But i think that the waiting time of each episode is to long. Almost every day i check your channel for updates. Please hurry. I hope you could maybe make a show about streams between ponds. Because im dreaming of such in my garden. Love your videos. they are really good inspiration for me. I know your not near completion but when you do you annual maintenance how do you clean the bog filter.

Would you consider building a kit-like (part one - part 2) of this project? And if so, how much would it cost me to buy, including the two tanks. I don't have the ability to build this. But, I think I would enjoy having something like this to enjoy at this stage of my life.

Eric you are going to get me divorced. I have already started my pond project because of you and now you start this whole new series! Seriously, thank you for the videos, they are inspiring. Do bog systems this size need to be placed at ground level? I have a raised deck and I am concerned about the weight of the tubs once filled.

do you use UV filters? i noticed you do not install uv filters in your pond install. Could you explain please.

I have a pond, 500 gallons, that has had a submersible filter/pump system. It was not efficient, clogged up often, was difficult to pull out of pond and clean etc. I am going to try to create an outside of the pond bog filter system. I've done lots of research and I think I understand the bog set up. I want an out-of-pond pump. I do not know which pump will be the correct one and I do not understand how the pump will work. Does the water go through the pump? Should the water enter the bog at the bottom and exit from the top? I have a waterfall but it needs some work and I will deal with that later and have a pump just for the waterfall.

O.K. PondDigger, I am finally getting to this 6 mos later... I picked up 2, 150 gallon oval bins. My bins are stock tanks with predrilled 3/4" holes/bulkheads with 1/2 plugs in the center. They are in the center and on the side of the tanks. If I use these spots and expand the holes according to your design (3/4" for bottom and 1 1/2" for top) the configuration of the pipe will be slightly different from yours. My pipes would enter in the center of the piping manifold and discharge through the center of the manifold. QUESTION: Will it matter? I plan on cannibalizing a filter kit w/ pump from "Pond Boss" that is ideal for up to 500 gallons (300gph) and using the pump with your manifold configuration.
