this is a really good song in and of itself but some fun context is that it’s the start of a narrative concept album. ethel cain is a character.

this takes a lot of reference on journey’s don’t stop believing. it’s more of a realistic and less optimistic take of the “small town girl” on the same theme tackled on that song. even the electric guitar riff is a nod to the riff on the classic song. I hope you do the entire Preachers Daughter album as it fits perfectly in the narrative of the record. That album is a self-produced and self-written record, with genres spanning from Americana and folk to death metal-ish and church music

OMG Ethel is one of my favourite artist and I'm so excited to see you discover her. My favourite songs of her are probably Family Tree, A House in Nebraska, Gibson Girl and Sun Bleached Flies (an extract of this one sounds in the beggining of this video). Those are VERY different to the one you reacted to actually, and I think you'll enjoy the vibe more. If you plan on continuing to react to her music those would be great choices. And as always, nice video!!

Great song but the album is a concept album and gets dark but hauntingly beautiful sound.
