But why should he be forgiven? In such situations where the act in question isn't personal against you, forgiveness should be reserved for the remorseful. I phrase it this way bc there are some certain situations where a PERSONAL violation is so egregious that the violated individual needs to find forgiveness within themselves to heal their OWN spirit. It's not just it being about dogs dying in movies it's the pure innocence being betrayed, it's also why kids dying are much harder to process than adults they are innocence personified. Really wasn't vibin w/ Patrice on this one. Remorsefulness isn't a substitute for legal restitution. Being remorseful is a good sign, as it indicates someone is less likely to repeat the offense, but jail time is more about getting that person out of society and making them pay a price so heavy that they are extremely deterred from repeating the offense. There need to be consequences for actions and Michael Vick the sadist got off light.

That's a false dichotomy. You can have both, it's not one or the other. People are more concerned with their own wealth and position on the totem pole than they are their fellow human. The only reason Animals get treated decently is because it's much easier to sympathize with an animal than a human who is filled with greed and hate. An animal doesn't choose to be vicious, a human does.
