Best episode I’ve listened to yet... you can hear Greg’s desperation and Patrice sincerely wanting to help him. R.I.P., two of the greatest ever.

+WOAHFOX That's the truest statement ever....but in defense of O&A, they "seem" to recognize that they need others to be funny, which is humility, and the trade off with Patrice or any other comic of content for exposure is very fair. Now that being said, without Patrice, the show is far less interesting and funny....

It's beyond sad at 1:39:01, when Greg says, "I'm not comfortable in my skin in real life, and on stage I could get a little buzzed and be the guy I wanted to be my whole life", at 1:51:56, "Then you go, well fu*k it, they'll (his children) be better off without you anyway...and then you hate yourself so much that you can't stop because then you're like, 'I'm the biggest piece of sh*t on the planet"." And at 1:52:46, "What was your upbringing like, Greg? Was it fu*cked up?" Greg: "No, that's the thing. It really wasn't. Well, through therapy you start finding out that things seemed fu*cked up...I was smart, I was supposed to save the world. I always felt weird. I always felt different and I still do now to this day...I'm always on the periphery of everything. I'm always the outside guy...I never felt that way (like a normal guy)...As soon as I get fu*ked up it's like, 'Well hey, everybody now I'm one of you. Now I'm normal.' ... So now booze and drugs are the medicine to fix what's wrong. It's actually I'm fixing my problem, I'm treating my illness. And then you try to stop, you try to not drink or anything and all the sudden, that illness is still there with no medicine, it gets worse and worse and worse, until you address what's wrong with you..."

I think it was partly that, but I also think the drugs just made him feel happy and content, as drugs do, and I can definitely relate. Without that feeling of drugged happiness, it's brutal. That's what leads to addiction. I think most drug addicts can identify with this.

As a former opiate addict I can honestly say drug addiction is one of the most complex and insidious things to overcome. I feel for Giraldo in this. The rationalizing aspect is extremely hard to defeat. It really does take a massive event to bring one to the terms essential to make a good run at sobriety. I used for 7 years and 6 of those years I didn't want to be using yet I found myself constantly being reeled back in. My whole life I have been hyper sensitive and constantly creative. For dominantly right brained people the world can be difficult and their minds are so hyper sensitive that its constantly telling them to give it something to numb it down. That can manifest in so many ways. Addiction is such a misunderstood affliction and many people don't have much sympathy for it. They don't understand the differences in the chemical makeup of different people. They say things like "I've used drugs and never had an issue so you are a weak minded person who I am superior to". Fuck those people, their inability to be empathetic to plights even outside of addiction makes them inferior. Empathy is one of the greatest aspects of an addictive personality and is something I draw pride from. Pride can be a hard thing to come by but its one of the things that can lead you out of the pit.
@supercres7850
@supercres7850 9 лет назад
ProperGanderSaul honestly, he was extreme, but so we're you. There's a lot that drives drug addiction and alcoholism. Yes, it starts with a simple bad decision, but a little empathy goes a long way man, and it's still a tragic thing to suffer from. I've known quite a number of people who have overdosed and choked on their own vomit while drinking. It's never easy. It's easy to blame it all on the addict and to say they're stupid and it's all their own fault. But, although there is a certain level of personal responsibility, that doesn't mean you shouldn't empathize with the fact that it is a struggle man. There's nothing easy about giving up a drug addiction, especially when you feel like there isn't a better alternative.

Except by the time Infinity War can't it he would have hated it as much as the rest of us. If you listened to Patrice you would know he would have hated the political agenda that's being pushed. Patrice didn't spread Misinformation with his conspiracies. He was a logical thinking person unlike most of the so-called theorists today, which in my opinion are labeled as such to take away from the people who actually think them through. Back to the original point, Marvel had great movies when they first came out and the progressively got worse. I don't think Patrice would have enjoyed them as much as you think he would have.
