If ever one harbours a desire to listen to the beauty of the spoken word in our English Language, there can be no finer example than this. Every syllable has equal value, every consonant distinguishable, every vowel clear and ringing. Perfection without artifice. Wonderful.
Listening to this during the 2020 pandemic three days after Easter. So moved by this lovely reading. Praying for hope and healing for our poor old world. Love from Lone Willow, TX . Wednesday 4/15/20
How beautifully read! Patricia was a wonderful actress and singer. This reading came from her heart. I was drawn so near to my precious Lord and Savior listening to this part of John's Gospel.
I cannot ever remember being moved so deeply while listening to someone read the Word. I was looking for one of her funny clips, after working all night in horrible pain from ruptured discs. I needed this. Thank you SO much for posting.
Very reverent and finely narration of the Gospel of John, Chapter 20. She portrays the emotion of Mary Magdalene, in mourning her Lord and Master, Christ Jesus. It is the most joyous account in the New Testament and the Bible itself, the Glorious Resurrection of the Savior. Her reading and account of this very moving book of John is very well done by Patricia Routledge, and all credit is due her for her fine work in this narrative account of John's Gospel.
Absolutely beautiful. The Word, has always touched my soul but, hearing Patricia Routledge read it is a blessing. I read both the NIV and King James Bibles and, although, I prefer the NIV because it is easier for me to understand, I can appreciate the grandeur and, sublime beauty of the King James Bible when it is read expertly, by a faithful woman like Patricia. Well done, Patricia. Thank you for the blessing.
Emma, I hope you are in a better place than when you wrote this.. but I have learned over time that this is why the Creator gives us four seasons... to remind us that it doesn't always rain.
Wonderful, so good to hear someone who understands the English language so well and with such warmth and meaning, so much TALENT. Just think she could sing the scriptures with that GLORIOUS voice. Lamerooliz
My tears come. Here in January, 2017 I come across this by "accident". Just the perfect thing that I needed to hear again. And spoken by someone of faith, whom I love. The wonderful Patricia Routledge. You post it in 2009, and I receive your gift in 2017. Thank you, and love from San Diego, California.
What a tremendous and precious gift she has been. I always watch KUA and HW . I am constantly smiling whenever I hear her voice. Thank you, Ms Routledge? You have brought me and others insurmountable joy! God Bless
Patricia Routledge is a living Treasure of England. She does not seem to be reading this Gospel but rather recalling an event that she was witness to and is merely telling us what happened. May this beautiful lady live long and continue to let us be priviledged to sit and marvel at her talent. I hope she is as beloved in her England as she is here in the US.
I am sure there are more true Christians in the performing arts but many don't announce it because so many unbelievers would disrespect then wrongfully. Yes I believe Patricia Routledge is from a true Christian background and believes deeply herself.
A very talent lady; talent that extends far beyond "Keeping Up Appearances".Hear her sing "Climb Every Mountain" and she shows us what a talented singer she isas well.
I was already appreciating how much Dame Patricia Routledge had shared of herself with the public, when I came across this. Her generosity and love of the Lord made an immeasurable impact on me, and I believe, anyone who listens. Thank you for all you have sacrificed in your personal life to make us all feel joy and happiness.. Not all who have been given a gift have worked very very hard to perfect it in order to share with others.
As a none English speaking, I always admired Dame Patricia diction and love for this beautiful language. How I wish I could speak so clear, so well and with such rich, wanderful voice.
If one were not a believer, Patricia Routledge's reading of chapter 20 of St John's gospel would give one a real reason to believe and a desire to know more. Maybe she should record more pieces from the Bible.
I lost a very dear Aunt today .Due to the Covid virus. Stumbled upon by chance ,but how timely. Loved this lady for years as Hyacinth, no idea she was so talented . This reading was so moving . Thank you ,Ms Routledge . Hearing this was a great comfort. Bless you.
I thought the same exact thing , also tonight I found out Angela Lansbury was a believer as well. Two of my absolute favorite actresses will be there WITH us , I was so HAPPY to find this out. They are both such honorable women and very wise. LOVE THEM BOTH
I am moved with emotion listening to the Holy Scripture read with such heart. Thank you for uploading this wonderful piece by the uncomparable Patricia Routledge.
I have zero interest in celebrities, BUT I make an exception for Patricia, just love her. This was stunning, thanks for sharing! I too echo the calls for a cd of her reading scripture.
Beautifully read....mostly because I believe Dame Routledge is a most devout Christian herself. She is a wonderful model for all of us who proclaim ourselves to be Christians. She is not acting here...this reading is coming stright from her dear heart. Not sure of her age here, but it must be in the upper 80's, I believe. Long live Dame Rountedge! BRAVA!!!!!!!
Wow, thanks for sharing. If she is not a Dame by Her Majesty-she'll be one in Heaven. I wish she was my mum! She is the best and remember all: 20:31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. God bless you and thank you for sharing this classy Dame- reading the Scriptures. Be Blessed in Jesus today. Cordially, Pastor JC
Bless You Patricia!! My heart and soul was so deeply touched by your reading of this Gospel. I felt as though I was standing right there amongst them all...and even though I have heard this countless times, your reading of this kept me waiting in great anticipation of what would happen next. You brought these beautiful words of truth to life, and forever I will hear your voice whenever I read or hear this Gospel. Peace be unto YOU!!
Pat Routledge was/is active in her parish. I also read a beautiful testimony for Josephine Tewson 'Elizabeth' from her London Vicar taking about her beautiful Christian faith and her commitment to her Parish
