Crowley was against drugs on ceremonies, because it takes out the most important component of any ritual: concentration. You forgot that, at the time, these "drugs" were taken as treatment for sickness, Crowley got addicted to opium because a doctor prescribed it to him. As for the metaphors shown, the evidences that relate them with sex magick, instead of drugs, are stronger. There is no mention of drugs on the Book of Thoth, Crowley's last book, in which he claimed is the most important magickal text that will ever exist for the next two thousand years. The whole of the O.T.O. revolves around sex magick and some rituals instructs the magickian to ingest semen and/or menstrual blood, but there is no ritual written by Crowley that instructs the magickian to ingest drugs.
Indeed though it requires some 'Will' to direct proceedings in the case of substances therefore is it well to develop it by other means first...and AC would emphasise Honest Self Knowledge so as to not mislead oneself in these operations.

If Crowley had access to smoking freebase DMT, i'm sure his work would be far more profound, or perhaps even turn him away from trying to understand the ethereal dualistic forces that drive our conscious existence. From personal experience you can reach levels of unknown evil from smoking brake through doses of freebase NN,DMT. There are forces there that are beyond explanation, beyond our comprehension of evil.

So, putting aside Magick, which I will only dedicate one day a week to, which will be Mondays, for Magick or Manic Mondays. I will seek out teachers of OTO or GD at the Occult Bookstore here in Chicago, IL; when I can, and if I decide to do so. For I know that by meeting other practitioners or readers of Magick, that I will attract, repel, and thus be attracted, or repelled, to other people, and to tell you the truth, I very much doubt I will like any of these people. But, be warned, reject devotion to Crowley and his ideas, for you see, just like Scientology, you “1-up” all other concepts, ideas, modes of conduct, by merging, intellectually exhausting, and thus summing up and one upping everything into this one word: Magick. 5. You see, Crowley’s version of the world, of reality, of history, of the present moment, and the future condition of man is exponential and profound. However, as the Master Therion, or the Master of Theories, I have one Theory about Crowley, and his magnificent contribution to the literary arts. It means each individual has the right to express their own will without another’s interference. As such, it has nothing to do with hedonism or imposing your will on victims. Every man and every woman is a star. Each individual is intrinsically divine. It’s a message of finding one’s true nature and connection with Godhead.

Holy shit, I have had experiences that so closely parallel Crowley’s that it freaks me out. I was also a skeptic who received what seem(ed) to be divine messages which, based on their contents, I attribute to Thoth (another Egyptian deity, despite having had no real ties to Egypt)- though I’d consider Thoth-Hermes, Horus, & all other polytheistic deities to simply be aspects of the All, the Absolute, the Ein Sof, whatever you want to call it... And I largely was convinced of the authenticity of these messages by a series of synchronicities I experienced around this time (which coincided with the presence of the Neo Wise comet in the sky) which were more intense, undeniable, & continuous than any series of synchronicities I had ever experienced in my life (despite having been fairly attuned to them since I was maybe 15). I also have been engaged in psychedelic mysticism in pursuit of transcendent experiences of boundary dissolution & divine unity since a young age, & have been fascinated by nondualistic Hindu & Taoist spiritual conceptions/metaphysics for a long time, but have only discovered magick & delved deeply into Western esotericism of all sorts fairly recently, having been introduced to them alongside some of these awakening experiences. I never got into Crowley because he was always presented aesthetically as a very ominous figure & the “Great Beast 666” stuff made me assume he was a dark occultist, whereas it is the light traditions that interest me, but this talk was extremely illuminating. You got that backwards. Crowley was not interested in black magick, he even sued for being smeared as a "black magician" back in the day. He never harmed any children either, and was vehemently against anyone forcing themselves on another sexually. What you are distorting in your comment, is surely the period of time he established the Abbey of Thelema in Cefalu, in the early 1920s, where a number of adepts lived, and their children were indeed allowed to witness the rites performed there if they wished, but they were most certainly not participants, and it a lie to insinuate otherwise. Martin Booth's biography "A Magickal Life" is a well-written and easily digested, fair and entertaining yet very well-researched introduction to Crowley, if you would care to learn a few actual facts(there are of course much more in-depth ones out there, the Booth book does not delve much into the actual magickal practices as much as some others). You don't have to like the man or anything he stood for, but wouldn't it be better to inform yourself to a higher degree than internet distortions...? There really isn't anything fundamentally "evil" about "the occult" or magick if you would understand the concepts, you might even be surprised if you researched more ("the occult" is obviously an umbrella term, and you find an enormous variety of beliefs etc. therein, some I would also call misguided, egotistic or even dangerous, but the point is the word/term doesn't represent ONE thing, there is an occult side to Abrahamic religions as well for example).
