I did not realise how much I needed a "Patrick's Dad Explains Lacrosse (And Why Its Great)" video until this video kicked off

"I'm pretty sure he runs across the entire country of China in this film." You're more right than you know. I was living in Shanghai at the time this filmed and was released, and there is a truly hysterical moment where Cruise is running in Shanghai and then, in the space of one cut, teleports forty miles away, still running. They clearly meant it to still be Shanghai, but there aren't canals there, and the area he was shown running toward (there's even an accurate map shown briefly) is nothing like as picturesque as where he teleports to.

It's amazing how much your parents are supportive of your passion. You're incredibly lucky. Also I can't wait for you to cover Fallout. *BONUS*: Start the video at 15:43 > pause> start playing it on 0.25 speed> see Henry Cavill's beard grow in a magical manner while he's reloading his fists > keep replaying this moment in confusion.

So, by the Tom Cruise running scale, Fallout is a 6/5, right? Because honestly, of all the incredibly impressive stunts in this series, that one long shot of him sprinting made my jaw drop the most.

Edge of Tomorrow is one of my favourite movies ever. I've seen it at least 5 times and it keeps getting better.

Watching this video 2.5 months late, I had to pause in the middle of the MI3 segment to say this: Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greatests actors of all times.

Simon Pegg dressed as a British Police officer at the end of 5 gave me the Hot Fuzzes.

I enjoy Mission: Impossible II. It went into a unique direction and the action scenes are great.

The movies kinda are connected,from 3 to 6 there is alot of care about the continuity: Benji from MI3 returns with a bigger role in MI4 Ethan's wife from MI3 is part of the subplot of MI4(and she is in MI6) The Syndicate from MI5 is teased at the end of MI4 Jeremy Renner's character from MI4 has a big role in MI5

Man, I love MI3, I love even more Ghost Protocal, hated the second movie and kinda like the first one... but IMMEDIATELY PAUSED the video because I didn't watch the fifth and you start saying that it's the best MI movie. Good God. How did I miss that.

OMG, Alec Baldwin's monologue about Hunt is one of my favorite movie moments of all time.

I still think Ghost Protocol is the best in the series, although Rogue Nation has one of the best motorcycle chase scene of all time.

I'm glad you love Rogue Nation, I came outta that movie like "holy crap that was brilliant!". It's weird, but I think it's sorta Spectre but not shit.

Fallout really broke the cycle in a lot of ways. It was the first time a MI director returned, it was the first time the leading lady from the previous film returned as a lead (GP doesn't count as Julia only had a cameo in that and wasn't a lead), and it was the first time one of the films felt like a true sequel to the previous film. I love it and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Great video Patrick. I love all the Mission: Impossible movies (except the second one, that was kind of forgettable). My favorite part of the franchise is how lately Tom Cruise does mostly all of his stunts (especially in Rogue Nation where he actually was on a plane taking off). Mission Impossible, the franchise that somehow gets better with each sequel film.

I went back and watched Rogue Nation after I saw this, because I didn't realise Fallout was a direct sequel and I want to be prepared for opening weekend, but I was so blown away by how good it was. Normally I'd be getting worried about a franchise overextending itself by movie six, especially an action franchise that has to keep getting bigger with each instalment, but I genuinely have no doubt Fallout is going to be one of the best movies released this year.

I already knew that this series is great, but thanks for elaborating.

What many people miss about the series, I think the Blank Check guys pointed out, is Ethan is haunted by the loss of his team from the beginning of the first film and this informs his obsession with keeping his team/friend alive at all costs-while completing the mission.

This Patrick Explains brings a brilliant new lens of perspective that really does make this series much better than I previously thought: the plot does not matter. As long as I don't care about ANY of the plot(s), I can relinquish all of my previous gripes and just appreciate the movies as ever increasingly refined, elaborate action set pieces. - Soured on Ghost Protocol because recently I realized that I could not remember almost any of the plot details, the villain's motivation BUT I could recall all of the action set pieces? No plot, no problem. - Disappointed by the first movie's choice to completely disregard the entire premise of the TV show's TEAM dynamic, kill off the entire team within minutes, and just make it all about a self-aggrandizing superstar one-man-team? No plot, no problem. Cruise's star power cannot be denied. His intensity is intense. In this series, with plot & premise pushed aside we can just sit back and enjoy these just to see Cruise (and team) run, chase and perform all manner of intensely intense, mostly practical, non-CGI, death defying stunts.

Having watched all of these multiple times it's only just dawned on me you need to do the Cornetto Trilogy like this. You already love Edgar Wright, it would be the best.

Mission impossible is an amazing series

Every time I watch this video I get really hyped about Mission Impossible in a way I'm not about anything else in life

it makes me happy that someone else loves these movies as much as I do.

What if in the final movie, the series comes full circle, and just as it started with the protagonist from the show turning heel, it ends with Ethan becoming the villain? I know, it's a pretty radical suggestion, but as this video points out, Ethan's only really defined character trait is that he's fucking crazy, so is it really that big a leap to believe he could go bad? Especially, as Henry Cavill points out in the new movie, after being disavowed so many times. Then his allies from throughout the series have to come together to take him down. It could very easily go very bad and piss everyone off, but it could also be an incredible way to definitively end the series.

I finally watched Mission Impossible! (Technically I saw Ghost Protocol in theaters but remember very little of it. I was just tagging along with my dad and brother.) But tonight I sat down to watch the original and had a blast. I can't wait to go through the rest of this franchise. Thanks for recommending these movies!

The funny thing about rogue nation and ilsa is actually something in the director commentary. Something Tom cruise conceptualized about the story of Ethan and ilsa. Namely, it's a love story. Boy meets girl in unusual circumstances, they go on activities together, they get in a fight, disagree about life goals, have one more fling together, and though they part ways, there's still a hope for reconciliation later with the final scene together.

I got that B-ray collection from the end of the video 2 months ago, and now they realized them all on 4k Blu-ray. A punch to the gut.

This video explains all the points why I love this franchise and why I think they're some of the best action films out there. I mean, you know what to expect when you watch one and they deliver exactly what you were waiting for. I still remember how I felt when I first saw Ghost Protocol in theater; I loved the franchise before but that movie blew me away. The movies kept getting better, but that one is still my favorite.

Pumped for the new MI. Rogue Nation was my JAM. I was blown away by the car/bike chase, the sounds alone were incredible.

I've just recently discovered this on-going series. I can't get over the kinetic energy you exude while boring your defenseless parents to tears (or into the arms of Morpheus, as was the case here). Also, I can't stop envisioning their off-screen (non-) reaction to your rant, which amps up the entertainment value to a gut-bursting degree. Thanks for this idea and even more for the flawless execution.

Re: the future of the series, I'd like to see Hunt bow out of field work to take on the role of IMF Secretary and hand over the reins to Ilsa as the new team leader. Rebecca Ferguson has the charisma and acting chops to pull it off, and more of Ilsa Faust can never be a bad thing.
