I dunno, looks like Beetlejuice 2 is going to prove this wrong. I hope it starts a whole new trend of movies. Stranger things btw, yeah it had more CGI than I would like but that soundtrack was pure analog bliss!
Absolute better this is, took me years to find this instrumental long before youtube online, when I finally landed it I cried like a baby I was so happy!
@@tonysproule3408 OK. Having listened to this, I won't be able to sleep tonight, either. You might want to check out this extended mix put together by Brazilian DJ Alex Vargas ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FQ55XNUr6SQ.html
Just the whole vibe between the two. If I hear the song, I think about the movie. If I watch the movie, the song is completely interwoven throughout, maybe only one or two other songs in the movie are both part of a scene, like heard from a radio. I grew up about an hour from where the true story happened. I think it was filmed in Kentucky but the rural aspect was spot on. Both the song and the movie are nostalgic. I remember the whole prison escape thing back in the 2000s.
I agree. I am a fan of Madonna working with Patrick and Steve Bray who gave us that gem of an album "True Blue" I wish they would all get back together again for an album.
@@leepadua8987 Sadly, I think that will probably never happen. Leonard's said that he will probably never work with her again. One of his biggest beefs was her going to Shep Pettibone for remixing his songs. And it's a real shame; her best work was with him. I think I tuned out on Madonna after "I'm Breathless" and "Vogue." Almost every song on "Erotica" had the same "Vogue" beat that had been recycled for the "Like a Prayer" and "Express Yourself" remixes. And I haven't been impressed by much since, especially not her new stuff.
In the 90s, I saw this movie when I was 19 years old. His music pierced my spirit, reached my heart. A part of me felt the nostalgia for the good times that listening to this soundtrack inspires. Living good moments, I heard a voice that told me "Everything happens", and knowing that youth would pass, I thanked God for each day. Today I am not young anymore and this song takes me back to the moments when everything seemed to make sense.
This is probably one of my very favorite movies of all time. Based off a true story. Sean Penn and Christopher Walken together is pure cinematic genius. I love the score.
@@88_TROUBLE_88 "Live To Tell" was the first single from Madonna's "True Blue" album. It reached number 1 in 28 countries and the album became the best selling album of the 80's by a woman. The album was also the best selling album of 1986 and one of the best selling albums of all time. Madonna is the best selling female artist of all time.
@the prophet i agree no need for it is there, hes probably a teen or young Twenty something who knows nothing about real music and wants to be all cynical and negative, its got soul and depth and warmth and a beauty and power sadly lacking in today's modern music, maybe that person is into all this Gangster rap garbage and cant hack real music from the heart who knows?, an inappropriate Comment for sure. 🙂
@@calebwigglesworth2740 agree I can connect with this song. Every song has a meaning 2 it and it hits different if u kno what they r Singing bout and connect with it
summer 86. so much going on back then. the radio version always makes me stop in my tracks- no matter what i'm doing. george michael said it best in waiting for that day "but something that i just can't explain, something in me needs this pain..... (later) say goodbye to the stupid mistakes you made. with 7 minutes one can go real deep
Patrick Leonard at his best. This should have been released commercially. The film that this comes from is very disturbing and not for the faint of heart . Live to Tell is my favorite song by Madonna Ciccone.
This music really fit something about the time period it came out in so well. Or perhaps it's simply part of what defined the time period. Either way Beautiful stuff!
Great soundtrack, it's really haunting, you can feel the tension and the sadness. It truly reflects the mood of this dark movie. I do hope that Patrick and Madonna get together again to work on new music because they did magic in the 80's 😍
One of the most hypnotic, best adapted score for a film, ever. Also the lighting in this film was extraordinary... it played as important a role as the main characters. Phenominal! ☆☆☆☆☆
@@TheGazelle3737 she played the part to perfection though, plausible deniability towards Walken's motive and agenda, I have watched this movie a thousand times never get sick of it! The intro with Penn and Patrick Leonard still haunts me.
Watched this film for the first time last night. You just know how good a film will be when the music sets the tone like this amazing piece by Patrick Leonard, absolutely covers all of the emotional spectrum from start to finish. I suppose Madonna's Live to Tell reminds me of my 80's growing up and when I got my first car, it was a great tune to listen to whilst driving at night with clear sky and bright stars. I just can't believe how long it has taken me to come across this film despite me being a self described 'film buff'! It was worth the wait though.
@@larrybaker9924 Oh no no no no no... I love Madonna, love the album True Blue and Patrick Leonard´s work, I worship the film At Close Rage, I love that she and Sean Penn were actually married in truly 80's style, BUT she wouldn't have been great in the movie, like MSM was.
My personal musical theme while reading Stephen King, particularly Pet Sematary. It captures the melancholy, grief, sadness, loss, but also yearning in King's work.
Essa música me faz voltar ao passado onde vivi momentos muitos felizes, onde estava com pessoas que nunca mais verei. Linda está música em instrumental, mexeu em meus sentimentos adormecidos a anos.
@@jimmartin7881 they really were. The book about the real gang..."Jailing the Johnston Gang" is a good read and really reveals how evil they really were.Unfortunately the real life Bruce Johnston,Jr.didn't learn from his past and in the recent few years was convicted and imprisoned for Meth.
@@gregoryt.coffee7862 Senior rented a storage building from my granddad, I was only a kid but I heard stories later on. Bruce buried bodies like it was his job from what I was told. Definitely a good book too, very accurate description of him.
thanks topher , beautiful and kind of sad music...I cried the first time that I heard this over looking the horizon while the sun was going down on a Friday afternoon in Miami on top of a building...feeling awful sad about a break up with my last girlfriend...and I was working at that time too...very emotional moment for me....thank you man...
One of my fav movies, casts, and soundtracks of all time! I grew up watching movies with this gritty representation of human consciousness. Love this movie!!! And everything Mid-west about it.
5:57 - 7:29 is my absolute favorite scene in this amazing movie. With the helicopter landing outside the courthouse, all the armed guards/police officers on the roofs surrounding it & Chris Walken/Sean Penn being led inside the courthouse. The sad, dark, mysterious music, empty stares & cool winds of the fall. What A MISERY! What A GEM! THE BEST 1980's movie I have ever seen! Along with "First Blood" (1982).
Mr. Blackwell , and the way the mom, grandmother, and kiefer Sutherland all stare at him with that look of anger and defeat matches the score so perfectly.
Not to mention, Sean Penn's final line in the movie, in the courtroom, on the stand..."He's my father". Then this song kicks in with the closing credits. Powerful scene.
This movie is a CLASSIC. It has SO MANY stars at the birth/beginning of their careers! I feel especially close to it because I live approx.20 miles from where it was filmed( most of it anyways) in Franklin,TN.I have heard so many people bash this movie...but they only view it as another late night rerun. They don't even try to interpret it,understand it or get the meaning! I have been lucky enough to actually meet Crispin Glover (Lucas) on TWO occasions! That was a real treat! I actually mentioned "At Close Range" to him and he studied for a moment,as if searching his memory, and looked up and smiled and replied "Yeah,we filmed that near here".A treasure...And this song? PERFECT....for this movie. As the lyrics imply it "Tells The Tale"......
I agree ,he was gorgeous ,still is in a really rugged way !!he just had that real bad boy look ,that if he was not a actor ,you could imagine him ,being a real gang member ,it's probably further from truth than you can get lol
One of Patrick Ls best! Madonnas vocals so powerful. This score is so serene yet sad. The movie, which is based on a true story, tells the sad tale of a sociopathic father and a lost son yearning for the love & acceptance of an absent, indifferent father. Sean Penn's portrayal was excellent. Thank you for uploading this. Sound quality is perfect 👌
Every time I hear this beautiful music score from the film, I think of the most recent tragedies to befall on the United States...like the school shootings in Colombine and Sandy Springs. Very Emotional :'(
Robert deniro turned down the walken role because he said it was to dark . He was right there was no soul in that character and you had no sympathy for him .This was an awesome movie and beutiful and haunting love it!
+Scott Leoski The character Robert played in Taxi Driver had redeeming qualities even though he had issues, he just wanted to be productive and find his place in the world who drifted into madness as opposed to this guy who was a con man, thief, and murderer. He was just bad to the bone.
Yea, but you saw his descent into it. Deniro as an actor wanted to bear witness to that without judging Bickle or his outcome so he could play it as if unexpected. DeNiro never tries to be smarter than his characters. He could have played the dad. It was the money and script revisions that was it.
Good point. Marty Scorsese always said that about Deniro--he looks for redemption in what others deem the worst people--those who fail to create natural relationships with their fellow man and are thereby dismissed.
@@freddybeer Madonna co-wrote, co-arranged, and co-produced this masterpiece. Just listen to this version and the final one, which is one of the greatest songs of all times, thanks to the work they did together.
Saw this movie when I was a kid in early 90s cause my dad would let me watch almost anything but been lookin for the song that starts at 3:45 when he runs away with her in the movie, so thank you. Incredible movie and soundtrack.
I watched that movie for the 1st time. Really good. I think 80's & 90's movies are far better than today's. More work & thought ,better music in em back then. Sean Penn is the coolest I think.
When I was in high school, I thought (as many have) I was hot because I had the hot HS band. I worked after school in a clothing store, and one day this "young kid" came in, introduced himself as Pat Leonard and wanted to know if he could try out for the band. Being the magnanimous person I was, I told the "kid" that he could and I agreed to go to his house to hear him play. When I arrived, he asked me what I wanted him to do. Just "Do your thing" (how hip was THAT? Well, Pat began with some Mozart, went right into boogie woogie followed up by every genre of music one could imagine. I realized that he was WAY, WAY above my pay scale. I walked away saying to myself... This "kid" is a wizard. He was a wizard then at all of MAYBE fifteen.
In memory of the lives lost in the recent mass shootings in this nation. 💔😢😔 This a instrumental piece of sorrow, remembrance, and picking up the pieces.🙏🏼🙏🏽💐🕊️🕊️✝️🇺🇸
