Out of all Patrick Marleau's seasons with the San Jose Sharks, the 2009-10 was one of the best right next to the 2005-06 season. After notching a career high 38 goals last year, he wanted to improve and he concurrently did that in 2009-10 as he hit the 40 goal mark for the only time in his career. As Ovechkin, Crosby and Stamkos were battling around the 50 goal mark for the Richard trophy, Marleau was holding his 4th place in goals as he got 44 goals, 39 assists and 83 points which was his 2nd best points in his career.
