You guys are still much funnier and more entertaining than almost any fan base I’ve been around. There’s nothing like genuine Boston born and raised straight shooters….
Jacoby is a great signing. You always need a good backup, no matter who your starter is. He was pretty good with van pelt in Cleveland to, he might surprise you here.
Well, they aren't dumb, but their take here is exquisite horse manure. They decided, during the coach and GM process, to go on a months-long "it's all about the Krafts being cheap," All Roads Lead to Rome PR campaign and now it's the filter through which they view EVERYTHING the Pats do. If they sign Ridley, then they'll find a way to insinuate the Krafts did it to save face and ordered the Code Red; Eliot Wolf isn't really in charge--watch for it and remember I told you so.
@@mctaguer I would like a better WR corps but Ridley is going to need a 15-20% increase in offer from NE for him to leave JAX and go to a state where he pays about 10% state income tax to play for a team that just had the worst record in the conference. Overpaying for semi-decent players just to appease a bunch of whiners on sports radio is not how you win anything.
@mctaguer I used to think Greg Bedard had bad takes and was negative just to negative. His options since Belichick was let go have been critical but fair. Everyone knew the Patriots were probably going to sign Brissett for one year, $8 million it was a good move. I thought it was going to be a two - or three year contract. Two years for $16 million still would have been good a bit overpriced, but it would give them a quality backup after the rookie is ready to go in year two.
First, Jacoby has worked in the Van Pelt system. That's why you bring him in. It helps to have a mentor who knows the system. And Second. Felger - The Coach is underwhelming... Seriously. What did the coach do?!? Can you give the man a chance to do anything before going off on him?
Tell me you don’t know football without telling me you don’t know football. This was an absolute A+ signing. Having a good mentor for your QB while removing the pressure for him to start week 1 if he’s not ready is absolutely worth something, and Brissett is probably the single best person on the planet for that role. The goal for the guy we draft at 3 is to make him the face of the franchise for the next 10-15 years, and to say making a move to support that guy is anything other than a home run is lunacy
Do you know Brissett is mentor material? He's still young and is likely coming in with proving himself as starter as his goal...I doubt he has any interest at this age in being a mentor
He's 31 and an eight year pro, who worked well with Tua and Sam, and he finished last year strong. If this is a long term solution, this is bad. It's a one year deal. That tells me they have a quarterback in mind to pick at three. If you have a new young starter coming in, you don't need Joe Flacco - You need Brian Hoyer. Could Jacoby fill that role? It's not out of the realm of imagination.
@@patriotsdynasty4866 can you make an argument to support the claim I don’t know football? Just saying “lol no” doesn’t constitute a meaningful statement
@@scmay29 Brissett has played the mentor role multiple times in his career already; he most recently did it with the Commanders last year and didn’t start a single game. Admittedly, Sam Howell didn’t work out, but that’s the difference between a 5th rounder and the 3rd overall pick. Beyond that, people around the league overwhelmingly say that he’s an excellent character guy, and his contract is structured like a 1 year backup rather than a guy who’s competing to be a starter
Felger is right about one thing: the FA splurge in '21 is unfairly maligned. Everyone focuses on Jonnu and Aghelor, but they got 1 excellent player (Judon), one good player (Henry), and two decent players (Bourne and Godchaux). They clearly don't believe Fields is okay with being a bridge QB--he still thinks he's a QB1 and Wolf doesn't think so (he's not), and yeah, Felger, it matters. Every coach in the league would say so. Those are not the wrong reasons. They're the same reasons they didn't think about signing Russ. C'mon Mike--you're on a 3000 piece full set Snap-on Tool binge.
You start Jacoby and coach up the new QB. Get another set of high picks next year and you have a rebuilt roster. Pick in the middle of the draft makes it so much more difficult. Being a middling team is the worst possible situation. You are either a SB contender or your not there isn’t anything in between.
Do they think the team will improve drastically in a single off-season? Accept the fact that the Patriots are a bad team right now. Free agency can not fix the problems. It will take multiple seasons of excellent drafting and making smart free agent signings. These guys need to accept their reality.
I swear these casual fans don't know anything about team building. Why get the big name free agent now? They still won't win. So you are wasting the years on your high-priced free agent while you lose. Build the team with depth and the draft first. Look at the teams in the playoffs every season. They didn't buy their way in. They built the team via the draft and then added the big name free agents. Your philosophy of spending it because you have it is why most people don't have $1000 anywhere and live paycheck to paycheck.
Brissett won't add much to the offense. Agreed. But he'll probably subtract a solid 1.5 points from the opposing team's average score by throwing a lot fewer Pick-6s than Jones & Zappe did!
Oh, look. Felger and Mazz being wrong about football. No idea why RU-vid suggested this, tbh. Anyway, first of all Brissett is a lot better than Mac and Zaps. Not even close. Secondly, he knows the offense and will help Maye learn it. Finally, they get back their top-2 defenders… They need to address LT, WR, and CB2, but they have still a ton of money to do that. Then, they can focus in the draft on just getting the offense better.
I'm curious, if Brissett is so good then why didn't anyone else sign him for such short money and have such an obviously good player on their team? He's been on three teams in three years. I like Brissett, but come on man. If he was legit someone else would sign him and have him start. Everyone is also assuming that Brissett is somehow going to be a QB whisperer and help a young guy better than anyone. No one knows that. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. It's possible they are installing a new offensive scheme he doesn't know since Van Pelt didn't even call plays in Cleveland. So much unknown, but everyone seems to think they know how this will work out.
I only wish Felger & Mazz could have been alive as peasant farmers in late Czarist Russia. They would have delighted in sitting around thinking up new ways to feel miserable while their crops rotted in the field.
Just Mac Jones and his body language and horrific play being gone makes this team soooooooo much better. If zappe starts every game over Mac were a ,500 team. So yes we're better
Let's see, they paid a backup qb, backup money, they resigned the good players, th3y picked good players so far in free agency at good money, they have not overpaid for anyone, particularly in a free agency class that's not that great, unless u wanted to overpay for Cousins or Baker. This is a rebuild, and it's going th3 way it's supposed to go. But what reactions can u expect from Doomsday commentators who want mediocre or injured players like Barkley, Russell, or Fields...
Felger and Mazz they know hockey and baseball. Everyone knows including the employees that work there. They don’t know much about football and basketball.
How do you give opinions on players, particularly new signings, when you don't even know their names (Antonio Gibson)? I'm sure you have watched a ton of film on all of them to come to your conclusions, right? If they had a player at QB who didn't LOSE them games last year, they probably win 5 more games. Maybe more? At least with Jacoby they can be competitive and have a chance in most games if the defense plays well or scores some points. If you want them to tank, just say it. Or would you rather they had signed Kirk Cousins an astronomical sum to win 10 or 11 games and then fizzle out? You guys complain about everything but never have a solution, let alone a realistic one.
Jacoby Brissett is the perfect bridge quarterback for whoever we draft. You all are on one thinking this was a bad move. All of our offseason moves thus far have been spectacular. This team is moving forward, you just have to trust the process. Our pick in the draft will almost certainly be a quarterback, but I really don’t get why Brissett is such a bad signing considering he’s worked under the Patriots organization and Alex Van Pelt?
It's very unlikely that Maye (if they draft him) would be ready to start in his first year. I could see Daniels (if they draft him) getting slotted in to the starter role in mid-season.
I used to listen to these guys all time but I moved to Canada and I forgot how annoying their voices are. Jacoby is a solid sign even if he is a bridge QB. Are they going to make the playoffs this coming season? No, It will probably be a while until we sniff the playoffs, but the patriots have been here before. I’m curious to see what happens.
It's. A. Rebuild. Why is this so difficult for so many fans to grasp? Anyone that thought NE was going to be competitive next season, is in absolutely delusion. Not only that.. but insanely stupid as hell too.
Worst than Mac Jones? Zappe? Who would you want? Because you all know so much about football? Look at what we had last year. I think this year is better. Get with it…
Mazz and Felger are clueless. These guys are doing it the right way. They clearly have a plan, which is all we can ask for. They’re going to draft a QB at 3 and sit him for a season. They’ll get a top 10 pick next year and get cornerstone pieces. They are doing this the old fashioned way. Brissett is not that bad, yall are bugging. He can compete and he won’t lose you games. Even with those additions you speak of, it’s not going to make the team that much better and this team ultimately will be about developing the QB they take and putting pieces around him. There’s no need to go all out, they are building for long term success.
"underwhelming coaching." Because Felger knows COACHING. God Mike, you sound Snap-On level with this. Ahhh, there it is--it's about SPENDING. The tried and true, all-roads-lead-to-Rome Felgerism. Myyyyyyyy God.
But is he wrong? You have a first year head coach in Mayo, who was never even officially a coordinator in the league. Van Pelt has either never called plays or not called plays in a while, because he didn't do that in Cleveland. A new DC to top it all off. Felger can certainly be annoying, but he isn't always wrong. We have no idea what this team will be, and while the moves they are making aren't great or terrible, it's not enough to field a competitive team and that's the issue at the end of the day.
@@georgen5882AVP didn't call plays on game day but he did design an offense that was good enough for Flacco's arthritic mummified corpse to drag the team into the playoffs.
@@bpusefFields might be a bit better than Brissett...but there's no denying that Fields was absolutely *useless* in the 4th quarter of games last year and had a receiver corps that was better than what the Pats had.
The team isn't good or close to contention by any means but they're better than these bottom of the league dregs. Last year was not a completely accurate representation of them. If Judon and Gonzalez don't get hurt early they would've won 6-7 games. Not saying they're good but or close to contending but god these guys act like they absolutely are gonna blow.
I’m very confused as to why they are tripping the Brissett signing. He’s a fine bridge QB. Did you expect them to trade for somebody of Mahomes caliber or something? I’m sure they’d be ripping them if they decided to stick with Mac for another year. You can’t win with these guys
You are also making the assumption that there was someone like Mahomes they could get. There is one Mahomes, and even if they could afford him they wouldn't pay. Cousins, Tannehill, Minshew, Mayfield...they passed on all of them, and each would have been better than Jacoby. However, this signing does mean they aren't tied to someone longer term and likely have a QB in mind for the draft. That part is good. The problem here is you either have a mediocre QB and another boring and bad season, or they start the young guy and probably have another boring and bad season. They are in a full rebuild and it sucks. Patriots have a lot of money to spend and they aren't really doing it, which is part of the issue. I think they are just generally annoyed a the franchise right now in general.
Cousins would *never* have come to NE for less than 2 yrs / $105m. Not with this offensive line. I was hoping they might take a crack at Mayfield, but Tampa Bay obviously valued him. Also, don't call Brissett a "bridge QB" until you know there's something on the other side of that bridge.
Bad takes. Why would we go after a top FA right now it makes no sense. Why would we trade for Russell Wilson? It makes no sense. Even if we are bad this year hopefully we hit on QB and get another top 5 pick. It takes about 3 good drafts if we are lucky.. cheap takes
A lot of dominos still yet to fall way to early to be complaining I’m a little disappointed in felger though because he’s stuck in lala land believing we’re going to be competing for a something with JF and Saquan Barkley Ik he’s smarter than that….
"What they are doing is so underwhelming," Are you kidding, you ain't seen nothing yet. just wait till the curtain drops on this dumpster fire and they get their doors blow off because they got none of that genius sh*t ob Defense. they may not have had any offense but defense is their calling card. But without being able to truly reveal the oppositions attack patterns and throw a monkey wrench at that you damn sure betta have an offense now. you could get away with Dink-dunk and scoring only 15pts with Bill. but it is on now. playtime's over boy. you asked for this . And now you are going to get it.
Because the team was doing so much better with Bill, though right? If Bill was so good then why didn't any of the other 31 teams make a play to actually sign him? Did you see who Washington and Atlanta hired INSTEAD of Bill? The team is a mess, good defense or not. I have very low expectations and I don't think they are going to meet those, but we also have Bill to thank for this. He was a great coach but a shit GM and could not draft very well. His best draft picks were pure luck, and he left the team in disarray. They would be no better if he was the coach of this team right now.
A rebuild done right starts from the bottom up, the biggest thing that they did this year is keeping their own talent. Please keep your own guys that play well for YOU, like Myers. If White pans out on defense and they pay him I'm on board. It's about the young guys. Get good vets that can show the new guys.
You'd need a 3rd to get Fields who has already shown he can't ship the ball to a WR1 to save his life. Drafting MHJ with Fields & Brissett would be like buying a Formula 1 race car but only driving it around a supermarket parking lot. Plenty of excellent WR talent in this year's draft, too. There's no need to splurge on MHJ.
I’m pretty sure they’re not trying to win more games this year. At least I hope they’re not. What’s the point of going 8-9 and drafting 16th next year? They suck, they need too much talent on offense to do anything real. Bridge year and 2 or 3 wins is fine by me. Just don’t win for the sake of pleasing the idiots on Reddit who are okay with being stuck in mediocrity for the next 20 years as long as they get to hear the cannons go boom in Foxboro.
He's so good of a mentor he's been on three teams in three years. Four in four now including this deal. That's how he know he's a great player. All great players move from team to team and spread the joy. I like Brissett but come on, you have to be realistic. 8 million is a pittance for a QB and no one else was willing to pay. That should tell you something.
@@georgen5882Brissett is a very good backup who you can use as a starter in a pinch. Not more, not less. If they draft a QB at #3 - Brissett is a good choice as a bridge QB. If they don't and he's competing against Justin Fields (or worse) or nobody at all for the starter job - God help us!
@@georgen5882 "He's so good of a mentor he's been on three teams in three years." Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Hoyer, Josh McCown, Matt Cassel, Nick Foles, Case Keenum. All are Veteran QB's that have been on multiple that were highly knowledgeable and made great mentors.
Brissett, good mentor bad QB. Sorry but stats are stats. Maye, looks more and more like Heath Shuler 2.0. Literally also the 3rd overall pick and will beat too, beat out by the 7th round pick, but I believe Joe Milton was picked before the 7th round.
Agree Jacoby Brissett is below average boring quarterback, uninspiring basically the reason he’s here is because he’s a good locker room guy which that makes me sick
Bridgette is a solid wb,especially for a rookie qb to under but I want Harrison jr at 3 not any qb that’s not Caleb there all gonna suck like the panthers pick last year the small dude 😏
Have they ever thought that maybe players don’t wanna play here. Y’all act like this madden and can just make someone play here. we gotta draft good to make this a destination people want to come to
No this is not a one year fix, we can blame idiotic drafting. I mean look back at the last 10 years and in the first two rounds you’re telling me only Christian bar more is the possible star out of that, maybe dugger. Is this a joke…grade school kids could do better throwing darts at a board of prospects.
What happens if Jayden Daniels is CJ Stroud? Why does a guy HAVE to sit? If a guy is “the guy” he’s been that way since he was in 7th grade. One more year of waiting won’t make him become “the guy”.
If they take him at three, he's not sitting all year. That is why Jacoby is not a bad signing. You want someone there in case there is a slight learning curve. Kind of like having Huard around in the old days. So if you have a guy who is legit looking to compete, he's not coming here because the seat is for someone else.
IF CALEB AND JAYDEN NOT AVAILABLE. WE CAN DRAFT JJ MCCARTHY!! OR DRAKE MAYE! OR MICHAEL PENIX!! AND DRAFT 2 TALENTED WR IN ROUND 2! WE CAN DO THAT!! XAVIER LAGETTE AND XAVIER WORTHY!
Not making excuses for the guy, but his quarterback coach stated in an interview that Mac suffered a stinger on the previous play and couldn't feel his arm, if that was a case he should have told somebody and been taken out of the game though.
