The session pianist was Floyd Cramer, who was a legend in his own right. He innovated several influential playing techniques such as the "slip note" and was a co-creator of the Nashville Sound of the era. Listen to "Last Date" his famous single which actually went to #2 on the billboard chart as an instrumental, which was increasingly rare even then.
Floyd Cramer played on the recording of Crazy too. A friend of mine who played piano professionally back in the 70s told me that he never believed that a piano could be made to sound like a country music instrument until he heard Floyd Cramer. Listeners today can't realize how that was an entirely new sound back then. Last Date is still a classic. The Great Floyd Cramer.
The movie “Sweet Dreams” starring Jessica Lange is a fabulous movie about Patsy’s life. Her original recordings are used throughout the movie! Fantastic!
My husband bought her greatest hits cd several years ago and for someone who's a self avowed metal head, he loves it! Can never figure that guys tastes and likes! He keeps me hoppin'!
She has always stood out for me with the singers of that era. Her tone and 'vibrato charm' is just chilling to the bone on every song. A remarkable vocal talent.
What a voice! There's nobody like Patsy Cline. Thanks David for the suggestion. Harri, your thoughts about Patsy are right on the mark; thanks to you too.
@@sg5553KD Lang early in her career talked of being a reincarnation of Patsy. Her band was called the Reclines. KD is a fabulous singer in her own right. Definitely influenced be Patsy .
That's the great Floyd Cramer on Piano. He played on a whole heckuva lot of hit country music records. You might want to look up his (instrumental only) song called Last Date. It's 2-1/2 minutes of that beautiful piano.
From one of Patsy's final recording sessions, a song of hopelessly forlorn love and trying to hold on to it. The string section's cascading opening notes are what distinguish Sweet Dreams as one of the most lushly orchestrated pop country hits of all times. 10 violinists were used in the production and Floyd Kramer played the beautiful piano accompaniment, as in most her songs. Patsy's heavenly vocals deliver such passion and emotion to this classic, joined by The Jordanaires backing her up. What a treat. 🎶🎶 Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and David. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
What a great request David. Patsy Cline’s voice is amazing. It simply drips with emotion. Harri’s commentary is spot on. I love it. Thanks Harri and David 🎄✌️
You should listen to “Faded Love” next. I never could understand how someone can cry and sing at the same time, but she does at the very end of the song. So powerful.
I agree with you. Faded Love is one of my favorite songs of Patsy. By the end of the song Patsy is stabbing my heart with her crying as she is singing. I love all the songs she sings. Wish they would find another lost tape of her singing song that were never released. Wouldn't that be wonderful!!!
Patsy's version of Sweet Dreams was recorded on February 5, 1963, and on March 5, 1963, she died in the infamous plane crash (the album it was recorded for was not released). Her legendary longtime Producer Owen Bradley added the string arrangements to the song which Patsy was not particularly agreeable of because she thought it might make her sound too pop to her fans. Released after her death, it went to #4 on the Country Charts and #44 on the Hot 100 and became a crossover hit. A Particular Favorite Of Mine. :)
Patsy Cline had the most heartbreakingly beautiful voice. Another version of this song was played by the late, great Roy Buchanan... his version was played at the end of the movie "The Departed."
My Lord.. her voice was so beautiful.. Just insane. Can anyone in this day and age sing like this woman did back in the day.. no autotune no nothing... it was her voice and a few instruments. Love it
Good grief Harri…between Patsy & Karen Carpenter, I don’t know any modern singer than can do what they did. Just a pure gift of talent from God to us mere mortals.
Harri I was a kid in the early 60's when I heard her sing Walking After Midnight and I was a kid in love. I love Sweet Dreams too, but she died soon after.
On car camping trips, Patsy Cline was a constant companion. Not on the road during the day, but at night around the campfire. In the Black Hills of South Dakota, in the mountains of Appalachia in a tucked away holler, in big sky Montana, in deep woods of north Minnesota. On the rocky coast of Maine. Ms. Patsy Cline was a constant companion during. This song on high rotation and Two Cigarettes (There in the Ashtray). Not day-time traveling hard-driving music, but night-time fire-lit music when you are settled in and relaxed and enjoying an adult beverage and mesmerized by the campfire. It settles a troubled soul. So much longing in one phrasing chills you out. Makes you contemplative.
Patsy Cline had one of the best country voices around. She had so many great hits such as "She's Got You", "When I Get Through With You", "So Wrong", "Leavin' On Your Mind", "Walkin' After Midnight", "I Fall To Pieces" "San Antonio Rose", "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", "Half As Much", "He Called Me Baby", "Faded Love", "Imagine That". She was only 31 when she died in a plane crash in 1963. In 1985 Jessica Lange starred in the movie about Patsy's life called "Sweet Dreams".
Roy Buchanan plays a beautiful guitar instrumental of this song. It's a good place to start for a look at a man PBS once called "The greatest Blues guitarist you've never heard of".
Floyd Cramer is the pianist on this and many of the classic "Nashville sound" recordings from the early 1960s. Floyd had a very distinct playing style and also recorded and released his own successful instrumental albums. His most well known single is called Last Date and was kept out of the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 only by Elvis' Are You Lonely Tonight.
Perfection start to finish, Patsy was one of the greatest singers in music history. Too bad her and Karen Carpenter didn't do a few duets. Would have been astonishing. RIP to both God rest their souls.
Love the way Floyd Cramer's distinctive piano and the strings so subtly yet dramatically complimented Patsy Cline's vocal performance. It's especially chilling that she left us so soon after singing this song. R.I.P. Patsy... We have Sweet Dreams about you.💔🌹
Harri, I enjoy your reactions and learned a lot about groups or singers I knew little if any about them. Not sure if this is the venue to suggest a group so excuse me if I'm off the mark. Anyhow, you might want to check out the group Cousteau, song (Damn These) Hungry Times ( Official videoclip). Not bad in my opinion.
PATSY WAS ASKED TO DO A CHARITY EVENT AND AT THAT EVENT SHE SANG SWEET DREAMS EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T COMLPETED OR PUT ON RECORD. HER AND SOME OF MUSICAL COMPANIONS TRAVELED WITH HER. AND OH SO SAD ANOTHER GREAT LEGACY CRASHED INTO MOUNTAIN SIDE. TOOO MANY OF THEM HAVE HAPPEN😢 SO WITH MY MEMORIES OF MY MOM CRYING ABOUT HER DEATH WAS VERY HARD FOR ME SHE DIDN'T SHOW THAT SIDE MUCH AT ALL. SO I DEDICATE THIS SONG TO MY SINGLE MOM WITH EIGHT CHILDREN AND WAS TAKEN WAY TO SOON. I SURE HOPE THERE'S A PLACE FOR ALL OUR WONDERFUL SINGERS WE HAVE LOST. GOD BLESS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL.❤ THANK YOU HARRI🦋..
