In my opinion Patsy Cline had one of the finest voices to ever grace God's green earth. Taken away too soon. She was one of the first Country Artist to preform at Carnegie Hall. Willie Nelson wrote this song. She does not have a bad song. Wonderful reaction Harri
Written by Willie Nelson. He was a struggling songwriter and was about to give up, but he sent this song out as a last gasp and the biggest female star in country music liked it.
Not only that. Patsy tried singing it like Willie and it got frustrating. When she expressed ‘I can’t sing it like him’, she was told to do it her way and she did indeed! Slowed the song down and did her magic with her voice. Gone but not forgotten.
YEah most people don't know two legends are connected to this song because Willie wrote it when he was just trying to make a buck writing songs before they talked him into performing himself!
Patsy Cline, the life she lived, things she endured. When she recorded this song she had just survived an automobile accident. Another 30 year old shining star, gone too soon. This song really shows Willie Nelson's ability to write beautiful lyrics. He later recorded it as a single. RIP beautiful soul.
Patsy Cline has one of the I’m incomparable voices. The great Floyd Kramer played piano and organ on this masterpiece. Dad once told me we were somehow related to him.
Year after year after year for decades, this song still remains one of the top songs played when offered on a jukebox… You can hear the tears in her voice as she’s singing…
In June, 1961, Patsy was involved in a head-on car crash that sent her through the windshield, resulting in facial injuries, broken ribs and a dislocated hip. She was wearing the head band in one of the clips of this video to ease scarring to her face as well as soothe constant headaches she was experiencing. She recorded "Crazy" in August of that year, still on crutches and in pain from the broken ribs. In those days the artist and the musicians on the session recorded at the same time. On the first day of the session, she could not reach the notes to her liking due to the pain. She left for the day, and the producer, Owen Bradley, recorded the musicians session and Patsy came back a few days later and recorded her vocals in one take! The piano player on this session was the late, great Floyd Cramer, with his signature "slip note" style of playing, who had an instrumental country hit with "Last Date". He was part of what they called in Nashville the "A Team" of session musicians that created that "Nashville Sound" of the late 50s and early 60s, which showcased Patsy's voice (and background vocals provided by The Jordanaires, also heard on the early Elvis records) with the mix of country and pop.
I thought the piano part sounded a lot like Floyd Cramer 😄 Last Date was one of Dad's favorite tunes and he always hummed along when I'd plink out the sheet music on our piano - miss you Dad ♥️
She had a pure angelic voice and didn't use autotune. My fathers favorite singer. Thank you for bringing some of my dearest memories of my parents dancing.
Patsy Cline is country royalty. She died well before my time, but I still listen to her. I don't think she had a single song that was bad, she died in a plane crash.
I am 76 and grew up through the Patsy Cline years...she was supurb,. absolute perfect voice ! Harry, listen to and do a reaction to patsy's song.." She's got you"...you will love it ! it will make you cry.
I adore her! My parents were huge fans, and she and Hank Williams Sr were the only two of their favs that stayed with me. That voice and that song are perfect together. Thx, great request.
My mom wasn't a big fan of country music but my grandma would always be tuned to the Grand Ole Opry or the Arthur Godfrey show on weekends. I can still remember seeing this performance sitting on the floor in front of my gramma's TV. Even at that young age I knew I was hearing something special.
This is my girl along with Billie Holiday. Beautiful women who were taken way to soon, RIP Patsy Cline & Billie Holiday!! You're remembered & still loved by the world. 🙏 Akita, 🇺🇸 fan
This is one of the best voices in recorded history! ❤ I have a CD of Patsy's greatest hits and I have just about worn it out!!! 😊😅😂❤ Sadly, I slightly remember hearing on the radio when Patsy died. I was 12 years old. I know my Mom was sad about it, too! 😢
I was very young when this was being played. ......I have loved it my entire life. It speaks volumes that it still gives me chills and makes the hair raise up on the back of my neck. I was so lucky to have been exposed to music of all kinds from a very early age . I cannot imagine a life without it. Thanks for choosing this.
Love Patsy! You need to listen to her other hits! I grew up listening to her music in the 60's. I am so glad I grew up listening to her beautiful music! ❤❤❤
The song "Blue" sung by Leann Rimes was originally written for Patsy Cline. Unfortunately, she passed before she could record it. Years later....Leann Rimes made it a hit at age 14.
I don’t even think of Patsy Cline as a country singer. She’s a singer, and one of the greats. If she had been discovered somewhere else, she might be put in a different genre. Patsy is one of a kind. Thanks for your delightful and spot on reaction to one of my favorites.
Backing vocals on all of her records was provided by The Jordanaires. They were a gospel group that did backing vocals for many artists including Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson.
Patsy Cline had an amazing voice and was taken from the world far too soon. So many female artists aspired to emulate her. She was a huge influence on KD Lang, who actually called her first band “The Reclines” in her honor. That’s a pretty impressive honor coming from another amazing artist with a gorgeous voice. Nice pick Harri. Your patrons have exquisite taste 😂. Love your reactions as always 🌺✌️
Great review Harry. As you say it's a diservice not to talk about her..... the VOICE ! Thanks much, continue onward. I like to say her unadulterated sigh's were SO genuine and not scripted like the modern sultry female singers that add that sigh deliberate.
Harri, your reactions are so good - heartfelt, honest, sincere and I’m genuinely touched by how your love of great music shines through. I’m one of the (countless) people who wants everyone to experience the same euphoria I feel when listening to music. Anyway, it’s great to find people like yourself who can articulate those emotions so well. I’m very happy to have found your channel.🔷✔️
