Pattaya cost of living 2021, Car Rental COST + RISK 

International Driving Permit (IDP) is a must to Drive in Thailand. Else one can be real trouble in case of any mishaps. Must make a video of the car spotting all dents & scratches, to avoid bitter experience. Car rental company should give tank full of gas & we return tank full. I always carry my own Yi dashcam & charging cable. Lastly take the zero liability or best insurance, peace of mind is priceless. One small mishaps can ruin the entire trip experience, so don't take chances.

yet another great informative video daz.good cheap prices .im glad that they mentioned about the police being your problem if you are stopped without a thai or international licence.ive heard a few stories of people being stopped and fined for not having them.you and your videos are now by far the most helpful to us farang tourists.you cover all helpful topics and dont do videos of yourself getting drunk or just eating food like other vloggers. .please keep them coming ....oh and your intro music is the best too.very good for air guitar

The maximum amount of time you can use your home country licence is for a 30 days same as your entry visa. Your hire cars insurance company is ok with this and is totally legal. Anything over this amount of time you need an international license or apply for a Thai license so most normal holiday makers are covered.

Many thanks - I think the main difference between Debit and Credit is with a Credit they just "block" 5,000 for the period you rent, with adebit they take the 5,000 out and then ned to credit it back into your account. Credit card all the way for me. I have rented from the airport which was fine - you can see different deposits online. But next time I will get a car to Pattaya and rent here when I need.

How can the insurance apply if something happens, if you use a driving license from your own country, when the law says you need International driving license?

I book my hire car in uk before my 1 month trip around thailand, i use Rentalcars.com good choice of cars and companies, never had a problem,. well i did one time when my credit card wasnt enabled, no cash or debit card was not allowed either, managed to sort it in the end with a reduced deposit, this was at the rental desk in bkk airport, moral of the story check your credit cards before you leave home (a few weeks before you fly) i pay Rentalcars.com with my debit card, never used my credit card in years,.i usually go for the cheapest price, normally pay around £12 to £15 p/day,. gets way more expensive if you opt for fully comp insurance/sat navs etc,.i think ive rented off most of the companies through Rentalcars.com,.hertz/thairentacar/bizzrentalcars/chiccarent/sixt/avis also years ago used those small rental places in pattaya for day rentals,.always got my deposit back to,.the more you drive in thailand the easier it gets, you do have to keep your witts about you tho,. as for driving license, ive never bothered with the idp, got stopped once and told me its ok to use uk drivers card license if your not living in thailand, i think 3 months is the max limit,then you need thai license ,.

So you can rent a car with your own driving licence but the officials still want that old 1949 paper version of the "international driving licence". One year costs here 32 euros + picture + week + all the rest of s*ht. What is the penalty if you have an accident w/o that paper from 1949? I think that at the time Thailand was called Siam.

I know you are cautious about motorcycles but 100's of farang drive them there and coming to live there I'm going to need one. But I will rent a small bike until more experienced then buy. Well.... the big question what exactly happens if you don't get international driving licence and some accidents/police situation happens?

never rent unless you only need for a day or two, in my opinion buy one for about 150000 a Honda or a Toyota get a good price and keep it for five or six years and when you sell you should get most you money back that's what I do same with motor bike buy a nearly new one keep it three years and it will be cheap

Just your country drivinglicense is not ok, maybe for them to rent it to you but surely not for the insurance and police if you are involved in a crash. You will find you are not insured and liable for all damages. Be very aware.

A tourist must have an international driver’s licence along with their home licence.

If you only have your country license without an international driving permit in addition, the Thai insurance is voided in an accident. Ask that question.

Renting anything in Thailand is risky in my view, MOTORBIKES, CARS, JET SKI'S, etc, best avoided if possible, but each to their own. The insurance side is sketchy at best, which is why the international company's would probably be a safer bet. An international driving permit is an absolute must, if you had an accident without one, you could be in big trouble, because you are driving illegally. My advice, don't do it.

Are the cars marked in any way, a sticker (?), to indicate a rental and therefore a tip off to the police or crooks? This practice proved very dangerous in America years past. Thanks for another good tip video.

Keep in mind that as a foreigner you cannot drive in Thailand with your country driving licence , it has to be international one If the police pulls you over you will get a fine...however if you pay 50% "upfront" to the police officer he will let you go I hope you know what I mean 😅
