The 1.5 cab is my holy grail. Its the best compromise between the single and double cab. I have always been envious of the Thais who have the best choice in 1.5 cabs as far as pickups go. And the Hilux or the D-Max would always be my first choice. No Fords, no Chevys, or anything else. Its about the availability of parts and the general low maint. requirements.

This was interesting. I just happened to buy a used sedan today. I recognize that I am not all that technically proficient with vehicles, so for the most part I prefer to buy new ones so I can control the maintenance it gets. Today though was a used sedan as the daughter's first vehicle. While I may (probably) paid a bit more than you would have if you were doing it, I used Toyota Sure and reviewed the maintenance records the dealer had on the vehicle. I'm happy with the experience, and the daughter is happy getting her first car. I guess that's the important parts. Now I just need to beat into her brain to have the oil changed every 10,000 km. 555

Hi Lucas, The reason I bought a quad 4 is we like to go fishing in Canada, all 4 of us. It's a pre runner not four wheel drive, an extra 400 LBS really cuts down the gas mileage. The Toyota pre runner is a 4.0 6 cylinder with enough power and cruising speed. The more weight the smoother the ride. You put 500 LBS in it and it just glides down the road. Toyota are very dependable. and everybody has parts if you need them. My quad has a long bed, but you can put down the tail gate and be fine.

My diesel truck is 17 years old with hundreds of thousands of kilometers. It ain't pretty but it runs great and I don't have to worry about somebody wanting to steal it or scratch it up. It's amazing how people who own really nice vehicles will give me my right of way at intersections too...lol. Replacement parts and repairs are cheap, cheap, cheap. I just put 4 new tires on it for 9,000 Baht total, including front end alignment. Like you said , I only drive it occasionally locally, but for trips I throw (foldable ramp) our old motorcycle into the bed and away we go. Nice vid!

Always insist if possible to hear the engine start up from dead cold. You can hear for knocking if the rod or main bearings are worn out. This usually goes away after it warms up and the metal expands.

Good points. I worked fleet for GM Holden we had subsidised fleet pricing and guaranteed buy backs. However, these cars were usually base model or next one up. Plain Jane colours and usually regulated on emission criteria. In my opinion as a used car sales Manager in Australia that stuff does sell but has low profit margin, due to supply abundance. Fleet doesn't necessarily set the market. I don't purchase late model low km fleet packs, no point. Better off diversifying. We also do finance differently. Someone else can't just pick up the payments, the buyer has a contract with the lender and has a payout figure. That figure must be paid out before sold or borrowed against.

My recommendation would be purchase a used truck from Isuzu or Toyota direct (or any other major manufacturers) and see if it has any factory or extended warranty left on it. Check for mildew smell and check for overspray around the window rubber seals and where body panels meet other body parts if its been repainted or not. Rule of thumb is don't go over 3 or 4 years old and keep it under 60,000 kilometers. Make sure your motorcycle fits in the bed with ramps. Take it for a test ride. A Diesel engine would be good for better fuel consumption, more torque and reliability. Also an automatic transmission would be nice as it is one less thing to worry about while driving, its is all about your comfort! Lastly, notice if the new car dealers have a big sale and/or buy it at the end of the month or year, then buy new!

Great car and truck buying tips for us. Agreed, crew cab short bed Utes are very popular but can't haul much. Good Thai budget 350-450K THB for a used space cab D-Max or Hilux with a normal or high rider body lift suspension to make it through the flooding days there. Patts this year been hit hard with rain flooding. Plenty of trucks in Thailand but finding a takin care of great deal could be tricky. Find a the high volume dealers at the manufactures level; Isuzu and Toyota have low mileage trade ins and loaners for sale. Unless they all go to the auction house there. Even a new long bed regular cab base work truck new in Thailand is under 600k. Taxi fleets that are Nissan Navara could be cheaper. Chok Dee ! Be safe n sane on the Thai roads !

Used car prices have risen worldwide at the moment because of the shortage of computer chips for most new vehicles. The trick I use in australia ( when buying anything) is to get the salesman on the back foot. I just tell them what I want and don’t care if I buy off him or someone down the road. Usually gets them thinking.

If you are considering a Ford Ranger, avoid the 3.2ltr 5cyl version. 3ltr Hiluxs are renowned for piston as a result of injector issues. Toyota recommends replacing all 4 injectors every 100,000kms (big money). 2.8 Colorado’s suffered oil burn issues. Isuzu with the 4JJ1 are the best of the bunch

If you have the money, buy new, simple as that, if you don't have the money, buy as new a truck as you can afford, there is just less chance of something major going wrong. Isuzu is held in great regard in Thailand, but for me, Toyota is the safe bet, i have had a rake of Toyota cars and trucks over the years, never had a major problem with any of them, and some of them have been 20 years old. I obviously don't need to advise you Loucous, you know your trade, but for other potential buyers. You were right to point out flooding issues in Thailand, accidents and also a lot of trucks are used on bad roads in Thailand, farms, dirt tracks etc, and take a real pounding. Sometimes it helps to see where the number plate is registered, ie what province, can help to gauge how the truck has been used, and on what kind of roads, but not always. Your a brave man riding around everywhere on a bike, Thai divers are average at best, the roads are average, and the weather can be against you. Good luck with your hunt, it's defo the way to go.

Toyota all day long. Although, these days Chevy and Ford specifically in the pickup category get huge mileage too. How hard is it to get use to right hand drive. I also find that 10 to 12 year old are the best deals you can get them dirt cheap, they may need some work but if you do it right you get great deals. my wife car is a 2008 I bought it for 3k and replace the shocks and a cv joint around $1800 in repairs, these had to be done at the time we bought the car, and just replace the alternator $300 repair. and we have used it for 2 years now if we use it for another 2 years that will be $1250 per year for a car that is great to drive and is fairly clean. I do have fun with old cars and trucks I bought a 2005 Tahoe for $2600 and used it for 5 years now and just bought tires and a battery. It does need a trans now it starting to shift slow, but I will just sell it for parts and may even get $1000 back. still $520 a year for a car is very good, made out on that one. looking for my next one now.

Be careful……it’s very hard to get parts for a lot of vehicles there……especially American made…..Toyota, Mitsubishi seem to be much easier if they need to be worked on….nice video!

I saw a video a couple of years ago that explained the high number of nearly new/2 to 3 tear old second hand cars for sale. It said a lot of people get a job and can then get a 7 year loan deal to buy them after 2 or 3 years they lose their job and can't afford the repayments and dealers get flooded with these cars but have to cover the loan payments which keeps the prices high and therefore it is better to buy a new vehicle because of the price differential being so close. Hence all those car lots with hundreds of 2nd hand cars.

Yeah, should be many nice used vehicles around now.

@@Rides4Kickz Also, a year before Covid hit, the government was subsidizing major incentives for first time buyers with a very small down payment required. A huge percentage of those ended-up defaulting. One supposed local auto industry pro told me Thailand exports most low mileage re-possessed vehicles to 3rd world countries so not to dilute the local new car market. I don't now if true or not.

Those prices for old junkers, crazy market conditions in Thailand

For safety's sake, don't get one without a B pillar in case you get T-Boned. You should also know it's common for cars dealers in SE Asia to turn back the tachometer showing you much lower mileage. Take you time and shop around. Don't rush into things. And keep in mind Vee may not do very well riding in a Toyota.

B/S I have had 3 new red plate cars and I have taken them everywhere. The last one I got had BKK red plates. I live 350 KM outside BKK so I was out of province as soon as I drove it out of the local Toyota garage. Problem what problem.

Maybe they have a sale for thanksgiving, car price are crazy in NVa right now , I work at a Toyota dealer ,new car are 8k to 10 k over sticker . They call it adjusted price dues to the car shortage. When a truck come to drop of new car it like Christmas, all the sale men look to see what here and 1/2 are sold already , they sold a TRD pro 15k over sticker last week , crazy times , even the price for bacon up it was 6$ more for the same pack ,

Good insights, though I'd be wary of a Chevy now that they've left the country.

My dad bought a Chevy truck and it used to accelerate on its own on the freeway. My first ever car was a Chevy sports car and didn't have a problem until my dad crashed it. Maybe it was his driving.

@@jamslam5641 555 My first car was an '85 Camaro! Always easy to find parts if something failed. That's what I'd be worried about now that they're gone.

Back in 2018 I was shopping for a used car in Buriram. Very expensive and little selection. I ended up buying a 2011 Toyota compact in Bangkok for 380,000. Drove it for a year and sold it back in Buriram for 425,000. I think there is a business there. Buy in BKK, sell in smaller markets.

Wow, but 425k for an 8n year old truck sound very high, mileage must have been low and in excellent condition.

I would get a trailer for the bike. Easier to get off a trailer than out of the pickup bed.
