I loved your mathematical way of explaining. I've never heard anyone speaking like you...4 years on, I still think you are a great teacher...(I'm a retired teacher, wish I could have included Maths lessons with sewing...but I didn't enjoy sewing in those days.
I can categorically state, without want of offending anyone, that our black sisters just have that special flair when it comes to dressmaking and this video is no exception! Madam, your sewing is NEAT! I am IMPRESSED at how meticulously you have lined up those stripes on the ribbed fabrIc and even on the fine mottled lines on the brown fabric. This distinguishes between just 'home made' to handmade couture. Whenever I'm interested in a specific pattern, I always Google the pattern review images, and have found time and time again how our black sisters and mommas just ROCK whatever they've made, OWNING the garment! This is well presented. Well done!
@@meon3wheels I’ve started working on my sewing room too. The plan is to split my husband’s “office” into a multi function room- he’s retired so need for a solo space anymore. I’m really looking forward to retirement now. Finishing up a two week vacation and it’s been nice being on my own timetable!
Beautiful dresses 👗 . So happy to see you and your sewing 🧵 lesson again . I have been wondering about this pattern . Thanks for sharing blessings to you and yours . You put a smile 😊 on my face today . Thanks .Jesus and a sewing machine 🌹🙋🏾♀️
So cute Anita! I was screaming for a belt for one of the dresses and you delivered!👍 May God continue to Bless you and your family!🙏🏾💕 It’s always a pleasure to watch your videos, even the bloopers!❤️
oh wow, I think I have found the Holy Grail! the style of dress I prefer, from a lovely person who explains things so thoroughly and well. Explaining so many things, that are "assumed knowledge", even in beginner sewing patterns. I searched this video firstly, because I couldn't work out from the pattern itself, if the higher neck version, needed a zip or not. Thank you so much Anita! I seem to have a Janome sewing machine that has nowhere to install a double needle, but I will try to hem stretch fabric with single needle. Didn't even know there was such a thing as stretch interfacing, have only sewing wovens up til now. (from Australia).
Anita you are a fantastic sewist.. As you may remember from previous comments you were the reason why I ventured out again and have started sewing. You are a woman of grace and faith and talent. Those qualities are very important to me. I just ordered the L/S t shirt. It will become my new “ uniform” when I am creating. May God continue to bless you and keep you.
Hi Donna!!! Oh, thank you so much for your beautiful words. You make my heart smile. I really appreciate your support. Have fun creating, my sister. 💕💕💕
Yaaayyy, De! Let's GO! The sew along is available, so when you get your pattern and fabric, you're ready. You can watch it in advance to get familiar with the steps.
Thank you! You are a gifted teacher. I can’t wait for the sew along. I love that brown, white yellow fabric too. These are lovely feminine dresses, and flattering! You look good in anything I think. 😻💐🌞 Take care.
Good morning Anita ☺️ Happy Monday, those dresses are beautiful ❤️ I'm looking forward to the sewing tutorial. Have a peaceful and blessed day and week 💖🙏🏾
All of them are beautiful. I will be sewing this dress. Thank you for including the type of fabrics you use, that helps a lot. I like your videos, they are very informative. Thank you
Heeeyyy Alicia!!! Listen, sis! When I catch myself doing it, I stop. It bugs me when I hear it in videos. LOL! I click off immediately if there's a lot of sing talking when I'm watching a video. LOL! Thank you so much for watching, Alicia.
Sis Anita, you're a Godsend! I can't wait for the sew along video. I have knit fabric in my stash & this is something that I wanted to do. I love these kind of dresses & knowing that you're going to do a sew-a-long, its only a God answer prayer! God bless you.
Oooooh, I was just looking for a pattern that could work as a layering piece, as I like the look of a skirt but tend to prefer the way dresses hang. Thank you so much for showing the samples! Off to order some fabric and pick up this pattern.
I love the dresses. I ordered my pattern and now will order the material. I just love your videos and I want to enroll in your coming sewing course. I am so happy I found your channel. Love you and God bless you.
Oh, Esperanza! You just made my heart smile. YES! I'm so glad you will be joining me on the sew-along. Have fun choosing your fabric. That's where the fun begins for me.
This is so much more than a review! Very informative video. Thank you, Anita! 💕 Also, I thought the blue and pink print dress was my favorite but actually the one with the ties on the sleeve that you wore in this video is soo pretty that I think that one might be my favorite now. Lastly, I have my eyes on the white and pink mug. Yes! I am a coffee drinker and that mug will suit me nicely. God bless!
I'm excited for this sew a long. I also have 2 of your sweaters, 2 long sleeves and 2 short sleeves. i love me some JESUS and my sewing machine. Thank you. I love all of shirts.
New sub here! In excited about sewing again. I've learned some things from this video today that I didn't think about when I buy fabric. Now I will do better. Thank you Anita.
I've just ordered this pattern and then found your wonderful video. Your dresses are beautiful. I'm looking forward to sewing this pattern. Thanks for all the info.
Hi, Anita! First of, yes, I love Jesus and a sewing machine!! Secondly, the makes are gorgeous! I am getting more into the knit family of fabric than ever before. Thirdly, can you take a few moments of your valuable time to create a Bible bookmark? I have followed you for some years now and I have seen you sew clothing versus crafts and I highly respect that but I think such a challenge as this could possibly encourage sewing in itself, on levels of both garment making (my passion as well) and crafting- a double score. Thank you in advance for all that you are and do; many continued blessings!
Hey sis! Thank you so much for your support. I really like the idea of a Bible Bookmark. Thank you for the suggestion. Many continues blessings to you also.
Hi Anita! I’m working on this dress right now for my daughter, so far so good, I’m a little worried about my neckline getting stretched out but I think once it’s on her, it should “snap to.” (Here’s hoping.) You, milady, always look like a million bucks!! Thank you for making such great instructional videos. I will always be sending sewers your way.💕
Thanks for this tutorial. I'd been wanting to try this pattern and was glad to have the guidance. I graded 3 sizes, actually 4, material was a t-shirt fabric from Hobby Lobby believe it or not. I have an outdoor wedding in Iowa. I may be very comfortable if there is heat or freezing if it decides to have rain and cooler Temps.
Hi Anita! You explain everything so simple, especially for a beginner like me. When is the sew along ? As I would love to participate. and will it be shown on U tube? Thanks, for all U do I love ur spirit! God Bless🙏 . long
Hi Liliana! ITY stands for Interlock Twist Yarn. I added a link in the description box below the video where you can purchase it from an online store with lots of options. I hope that helps.
Hi Anita. Can I use a serger instead of a cover stitch machine? If not will the double needle work on a Janome sewing machine? Thank you and God Bless you❤️
Hi Maribel. The serger is different from the coverstitch. If your serger has a hemmer foot, you can hem the dress on your serger. You can use a twin needle for hemming and topstitching. The twin needle is universal so it should fit your Janome. I hope that helps.
@@AnitabyDesign Wow!! I actually got the pattern from Joanne and it was on sale for $1.00. Do you recommend any other patterns that you teach or have a sew along? I love your teaching skills❤️❤️. Thank you so much ❤️ God bless you 🙏🙏😘😘
I'm thinking those sleeveless dresses you made would look very nice (and be versatile) if worn with a bolero-type jacket. (....like a white sheer organza for summer dinner with friends...lace fabric like one in a fun rich yellow...an airy crochet with picot trim....) along with any one of your adorable shoes. And one of your sun hats.
These dresses are stunning and I'm anxious to get started. I purchased the pattern ON SALE for 99 cents at JoAnn's. I'm confused as to how much fabric to purchase since I plan to make the final dress you made. It's the one with Bodice A, long skirt, and sleeves with ties. I love the ITY fabric and plan to purchase that but don't know how much to order. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. You sew just like my dear mother used to sew. She was a perfectionist and would always tell me not to 'cut corners' as my garments screamed 'homemade' and not in a good way. Marilyn
Hi Marilyn! I'm so glad you got your pattern on sale. I used the yardage suggestion for View B with the sleeves and long skirt. But I added an additional 1/2 yard for the longer sleeves and ties, plus possible shrinkage during pretreating in the washing machine. Adding 1/4 - 1/2 yard is plenty enough extra fabric. I hope that helps.
Hi Catherine! Oh, sew-alongs are so fun. I will be posting here, on my channel, when the video is ready. You can subscribe to my channel if you want. Then hit the little bell icon to the right of the "SUBSCRIBE" button afterwards. Then you will get a notification every time I post a video to RU-vid.
Hi Anita! I followed the awesome sew along and I have a question. How do I get rid of the saggyness of the neckband? I have a feeling it should recover if i wash it or wet it down . I think too much manipulation might have caused it. No way to take it apart since I finished /serged it and topstitched. Is it a thing to use a water spray bottle to dampen it and see if it can recover? just wondering..next time i may cut the neckband an inch smaller. This isn't my first knit neckband, just my first out of ITY fabric. TY for helping..
Hi Theresa. I really don't know of a good way to fix the sagging neckband without removing and sewing again. You could insert a dart on the neckband at the shoulder seams and center back. But you may need to extend it into the shoulder and center back seam for a smooth seam. Definitely cut a smaller neckband next time. It must be smaller than the bodice neckline.
@@AnitabyDesign I also thought about adding a piece of clear elastic and only make 2 openings of the back of the neckband since the sagging is mostly occurring across the back. Not too much gather but just enough. I’ve had this happen in the past but the combo of the thin ITY plus the long long neckband ended up in a bit of trouble. I really need to listen to that “still small voice” that lives within bc as I was putting on the neckband I heard a little “ you might want to baste it first” come in on the radar lol.
Great video! Can I ask you something random. Do you know where someone can find microfiber fabric by the yard? I've looked at amazon, joann, and local. Also tried some other online stores and I know it's out there. It's a struggle finding it not in towel or made product already. Please help!
