I'm doing a quick pattern review of Simplicity 9886. It's a color blocked dress pattern that was released for the spring 2024 season.

Looks great on you. I’ve only color blocked on knit tees, as part of scrap busting, but the woven fabrics really came out very nice. It is a flattering dress on you.

Hi Denise very lovely dress❤ could you please share about yardage? Did you use only 60 inch wide fabrics?

Thank you! I think the blue fabric was close to 60" wide, but the other fabrics were 44"-45" wide.

This is a beautiful dress! I’m wondering if it’s hard to align the colors by the zipper as it seems a little off in your dress as well as the photos of the Simplicity sample itself. Please don’t take this as a criticism ❤ Do you think it would be easier to match the fabrics up if I use stretch fabrics and then use a shorter zipper? I really love it, but know I’d be frustrated if the colors don’t align. Thanks!

😅 No worries. I am only slightly bothered that the colors don't line up and certainly not enough to not wear the dress. Keep in mind that the pattern is designed for woven fabrics so you might need to make other changes if using a knit. I think it's due to the way the pattern pieces in that area are designed more than anything. So, what you said may help, but it might not. You'd still have to fiddle around with it to get it to match perfectly. ✂

@@Sewlimitless thank you! Maybe a better option would be to color block in the front only. That way the zipper won’t be an issue. Such a nice dress in you though!
