Simplicity sewing patterns just released their Early Spring sewing pattern collection. Today, I'm taking a look at each of the new sewing patterns and assessing them for fit, fabrication, and overall design. If you love looking at sewing patterns, I think you'll enjoy this video.

I don't know about you, but if I owned a big 4 pattern co., I'd most definitely have YOU on my payroll to scrutinize my patterns before I released them ha! you have a Great eye!!

Thank you, Lindsey. I always appreciate your commentary. I am continually frustrated with the patterns that are coming out. I feel like there is way too much redundancy among the Big 4. How many drop shoulders does one need? How many cut out styles? How many color blocks??? Meanwhile, they are missing the boat on many classic silhouettes. Idk. Maybe I'm just not trendy enough. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think the big 4 is sharing your sentiment bc they've been re-releasing a lot more vintage patterns these past few seasons.

Watched a tutorial Mimi posted for the S9894 top. She did not use underwire on the one she sewed. She also did a lining for it, and lots of interfacing.

Ok hear me out, that crazy colour blocked jacket, picture it in a black faux leather with back piping and the quilting on the shoulder but lose the extra pockets. It gives me really cool moto jacket vibes

This collection had so many good designs that I ALMOST forgot to be bummed that they don't have Cynthia Rowley in the mix anymore 😢 What is with Simplicity and their penchant for afflicting us with those weird, dated blouses like Lois from Family Guy wears. They keep doing them but I haven't seen a single one made in the sewing community. Otherwise, there was a lot to like. Lindsey, I think if you would just give asymmetrical shoulder dresses a try you would not only come to like them but you would even wear them to Target! That red one is a keeper - beautifully done. There's something I like about the Claude Montana style of those color blocked jackets, but they weren't quite refined enough to work imo. The pocket in the back looked slapped on and cheap but it could be finessed into something awesome with the right touch. I hope those sewing companies come across your videos and enlist your help. They need it. WE need it.

This really helps me decide whether to make a pattern or not. Sometimes the block just isn’t going to fit me and I avoid that pattern altogether

The 9892 jeans description does say that they’re low waisted and I really like them but would have to jiggle the pattern to make them high waisted, I just like the secure feeling that high waisted trousers give me plus the style is more flattering on my body shape.

Jiffy 5888 (the long coat): interesting how they added a third pattern piece. I guess so there won't be a seam running down the top of the sleeve. I do like the look of the coat :)

The Mimi G cape in a tweed gives Sherlock Holmes to me. S9891 Cargo skirt is straight out of a 90's Delias catalog. Shoes and top included. The D ring is for your wallet chain! lol

I love the jeans! Those are adorable! Not a fan of the dress with the elasticized cut out at the back waist. That dress looks like an argument.

I dont think the kimono sleeve coat at the end has shoulder seams. I didnt see evidence of them in thevline drawings or picture on the pattern front. I have seen vintage coats exactly like that and there were no shoulder seams it was 4 pieces with half a sleeve on the front coat piece and half on the back coat pattern piece. At least thats what it looks like to me.

None of the samples were made correctly for that really tall model. She has such a long torso that those pants that were supposed to be 1" below the waist ended up 3" more lower. That one shoulder dress showed her "chicken cutlet", which wasn't the design showed in the line drawings. It's too bad that they didn't put properly fitting clothes on her as then it makes the design look different, and probably worse, than what the design intended.

9888 looks frumpy with the strong contrast. It reads like an old sears house dress on the front. That’s not a good look. The main view is not a good look overall. View a has a less contrasting collar and I think that improves that plus getting rid of the collar.
