Anyone can do it. It's just practice. As long as there is a decent, clear picture: just look for seams and darts (especially on the chest). You just draw those lines within the general shape. (I can't draw to save my life, but your just drawing basic lines). I went from no knowledge to also being able to make from visuals only. I was able to work on a film (Greater) and made a few random pieces from scratch. Look at something online, draw the seams, and then see it in person. (Walmart, Target, Department stores, ect.) See how close you are and edit the drawing once you see it in person. Anyone can, I promise.

The Wheel of the Sewing Machine turns, and stitches come and pass, making seams that join pieces. Pieces form into clothes, and even those clothes become outfits before the machine that gave them birth sews again. In one Age, called the First Age by some, an Age long past, an Age yet to come, inspiration rose in mind of a RU-vidr seamstress. It was not the beginning - there are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of the Sewing Machine - but it was _a_ beginning.

The wheel of time costuming and time period is super interesting because the world went through a 'Breaking' so essentially it used to be more modern and then devolved, and i find some of the clothing reflects that really well - its not really medieval given the designs can be more modern/ scifi-esque but the materials are from a devolved world... I've started putting together Moiraine's travelling outfit and you looking at that sleeve at the beginning was very familiar! Okay, it's basically a circle cloak. Oh, no, it's got a built in scarf thing. Which goes around the back like a giant collar to make the strangest hood ever? And then what happens to that piece on the other side? And, wait, there are no seams on the front, but there are seams at the top back so the front piece goes over her shoulders like an apron?? Also your reasoning for the decision on the lining was just *chef kiss*. When I got to episode six I realised that I probably should have guessed they were going there from the first episode when she put on her leather suspenders...!

The fabric search is giving me war flashbacks - I have previously had to track down a fabric all the way to the supplier and finding out what other stores they sold it to that might still have some. Luckily in my case people were super nice and helpful and I eventually found my perfect fabric, although I paid almost the same in shipping as I did for the actual fabric 😂 worth it in the end! I hope you were able to find yours!

Well, this was an unexpected joy. I've obsessed over the books for so long so seeing you basically cosplay one of the best characters is awesome, can't wait for the next part! For the Bolero, I think a wool or felt will look nice and have a comely contrast with the satin, and it's possible you could get away with a different fabric for the skirts. As gorgeous as the blues are in the show, in the books Moiraine is described as having slashes of white in the skirt, so there's that option too. I wouldn't know how to make it match exactly, but rather than a zipper, you could try lacing or hooks and loops on an inner seam attached to the lining, using the taughtness of the pattern and stiffness of material to hold the outer seam closed over it, but I think, where the one power is concerned, we can let them get away with the odd zipper.

I was fresh off The Witcher season 2 and my mum pretty much strong armed me into The Wheel of Time and now I learned how to do Egwene’s braid, we both own the books, me in English she in Spanish and she is eyeing me like she knows I am THIS close to start hunting for a long blue dress (she’s made me some amazing clothes in her spare time but I’ve already got her onto a Geralt of Rivia black shirt plus her own knitting projects and if I ask for more she may chuck me off a window). It’s like she knows I spent almost a year looking for a long blue wool coat after watching S1 of A Discovery of Witches… and I found it *evil laughter* Holy cat mittens 23 fabric shops? Mum would lose her whole mind, the son of one of her friends went to Zambia for work and he brought her back some fabrics at her request, if we ever go to London I have to take her here. ETA: I adore the music you’ve put in this video. So so good.

Moiraine had some of the best costumes in the series. I can't wait to see the completed project. Also, there is a good chance that the fabric for her dress was custom dyed, so they might have used two different silks for the bodice and the skirt and just dyed them to match.

I am glad to see you pick up this...I am not shaped to find this dress fluttering but by golly I want to own it. The dress maker question is actually in the New Spring - Moriane orders 20 dress, half divided for riding and the first is cut while she's in the store and pinned then she receives it at the end of the week. The lower, educational, parts of the White Tower wear other, non-custom made dresses. You see Novices wearing plain white in the show prior to Logain's procession. Accepted (like Amalisa was) essentially wear the same white dresses, but with multi-colored bands at the hem. You only get to splurge once you become Aes Sedai.

It is interesting how the skirt flows--like silk--but the top is more structured and generally doesn't appear to wrinkle. I noticed that while I was watching the show, even before I saw that Bernadette was tackling this as a project! I could definitely see the possibility that the top has some fusing or interfacing while the skirt does not. So many design puzzles to sort out. I think your idea that there was a dye process at work is realistic too!

If you're referring to the cross weave then no, what cross woven refers to in this context is when a fabric is woven with different colour warp and weft threads, not to be confused with the style of weaving known as cross weaving, the colours have to be dyed separately prior to being woven together and dying the finished fabric would remove that two toned effect, meaning if it was cross woven they obtained it as it is

I've been meaning to request videos on historical or traditional mending, like darning or repairing holes. I have a bunch of mending to do, and most of the instructions I find are on how to repair seams and other such things. I can sew a seam. I can hand fell a seam! I need help repairing worn spots in the middle of shirts and moving the darts in garments. But before I could ask our lovely time traveller for help in this, I discovered something ... instead of a video, Bernadette has a book coming out on exactly this topic! So not only is she a time traveller, she is also a mind reader. I will, of course, be purchasing the book. But a video on darning, reparing tears in fabric, or taking in or out clothing would not go amiss. Both because the book will not arrive until April, and because any chance to listen to Bernadette narrating excitedly about the nuances of stitchery is always welcome. Also, I am always here for fantasy costumes, so let me get my tea and settle in.
